Guess Who Ended Up Staying Home Today?
Jul. 7th, 2020 10:47 pmYeah, my stomach/intestinal thing hadn't quite resolved itself by this morning -- I could eat my muffin, but it felt like a chore, and I wasn't really hungry. Talked to my parents about it and ended up calling in. I was feeling a bit better by lunchtime -- at the very least, I wanted to eat -- but after lunch. . .I blame the fact that we had barbecue chicken pizza. I like that, but barbecue sauce tends to be hot, and my stomach was like "this was not the greatest choice you could have made." Fortunately I didn't throw up or anything, and sitting around watching YouTube got me to the point where I could play the beanbag game with my folks. (Dad won all three rounds -- hell, he won the first game by getting four holes for 12 points! And then the second game saw multiple ties -- first between him and Mom for first, then between me and Mom for second (she won). I only pulled second once, but they were all pretty tight games!) And supper -- hot dogs with potato chips and cantaloupe -- has settled better in my stomach. I'm not quite 100% yet, but I'm feeling a lot better than I was, and I think I can manage work tomorrow. I mean, we'll know for sure when I wake up in the morning, but -- fingers crossed!
So yeah -- not a very exciting day, thanks to the intestinal thing. I spent most of the morning either lying down or reading Not Always Right, and most of the afternoon either lying down or watching YouTube:
A) Another one of those CallMeKevin compilation videos, only this time it's Kevin being awkward and adorable. Notably, this one was rather shorter than the other ones I've watched. XD (Not that he isn't regularly awkward and adorable, it's just easier to get clips of him being evil in video games.)
B) The second part of the "chronicling Jim Pickens's kills across Sims" compilation – we're up to 60 deaths with the terrible terrible restaurant of doom (which only serves bad-quality pufferfish). Also up to the "Vampire Jim" years (which accounted for a few deaths), along with a quick detour into some of Kevin's Sims 2 stuff. Haven't seen a Part Three yet, but I imagine the count will just keep ticking up regularly – especially when we get to the "soft reboot" and Kevin "killing off" all characters except Jim and Turg. XD
C) FINALLY caught up with my OXBox/OXtra videos, including:
1. 7 Bugs that video games ended up embracing as features or fun easter eggs (the homing briefcase from Hitman 2 was happily featured)
2. 7 ways video games stopped you escaping, the commenter edition (who wants to run straight into no man's land? Or end up the dinner of a 'ghost leviathan?')
3. 7 rules of stealth games that don't make any freaking sense (like how guards have VERY PRECISE patrol routes, or won't stay on alert forever if they find a killed or unconscious (or naked) colleague, or how every protagonist in those games gets magical x-ray vision. Of course, the alternative is a more realistic game that's a lot harder and a lot less fun to play. . .)
4. 7 humiliating game overs that are easily avoided if you don't rush into things (sometimes literally – running with a nitro capsule in Resident Evil Remake, anyone? And Fallout gets a mention with locking yourself in a secret vault in the Sierra Madre casino in New Vegas – though, happily, you can also turn that on your enemies, sooo)
5. 7 hard bosses one can beat without firing a shot (at them, at least – at least one entry had you shooting everything in the room BUT the boss while you waited for back-up to set up something to fry them. VTMB's special werewolf kill made the list as the first entry though, which was cool)
6. 7 joke characters more hardcore than they looked (actually uploaded TODAY, so I watched it BEFORE it could end up in my Watch Later XD Also, if you are a fighting game character, it would behoove you to either just a) be a bird or b) have a bird form, as three out of the seven had one of those two qualities and thus the advantages of being harder to hit with freer movement)
D) A video by Juicehead on what happens if you try to kill all four base-game factions in Fallout 4 right away. Answers? Minutemen are essential, so you can only aggro them, not kill them completely; it IS possible to kill Danse and his friends and make enemies of the BoS, and Desdemona and her lot and make enemies with the Railroad. Juicehead incorrectly surmised that this meant you could never reach the Institute (if you do just slaughter the Railroad, you can just use Tinker Tom's terminal on your own) and thus advancing the main quest was pointless, meaning the only thing you could do was settlement quests for Garvey. Which he seemed to consider a terrible fate, which ticks me off a bit, being a solid Minutemen girl myself. Hmph.
E) A video on Fallout 4 glitches, from "Son of a Glitch"/A+ Start – an old video from the beginning of the game's life, but still fun. Some I knew about (like Dogmeat being able to fetch the Cryolator from Vault 111, despite it being behind a Master lock); others were entirely new (like being able to infinitely jump on this one engine object). And, if it hasn't been patched, the ability to offload more objects on companions than they can technically carry by dropping items and asking them to pick them up could prove useful. . .
F) And another video on funny moments in Fallout 4, like convincing a Mr. Gutsy you're American by swearing at it, killing Kellogg with a teddy bear flung from the Junk Jet, and of course everything to do with the Silver Shroud. :D I am so looking forward to doing that quest chain when I'm doing a proper playthrough again. . .
Well, if nothing else, I managed to make progress on my Watch Later list. XD And I did get both my queues done for Victor Luvs Alice and Valice Multiverse -- AND made an anniversary post for Victor and Alice over on my tumblr, since today is the day I chose for their wedding anniversary in the universes where they get married. :) Watched the music video for "Lights Down Low" featuring the singer Max getting married to his wife too, which always gives me the fuzzies. Oh, and since it's also the anniversary of the house, Mom got another picture of us all on the front step! Took a few tries, and I was kinda squinting in the best shot, but hey. :P
So yeah, that was my day. Hoping I can resume more normal activities tomorrow. . .as it is, I'm gonna answer comments, then try to get to bed a little earlier in the hopes that more sleep will help this whole stomach thing finally fully resolve. Gonna be a busy day at work tomorrow now, that's for sure. . .but I've just guaranteed I only have to worry about TWO full days and a half day, so. . .swings and roundabouts? *shrug*
Anyway. Time to do the thing and then prep for bed. I may not be on the healthiest sleep schedule yet, but I can give it more of a try in the interest of not feeling like shit. Night all!
