Extremely Wet Wednesday
Yes indeed -- while we never got the wind that we were supposed to get with this storm (it got a little breezy, but nothing like they said), we definitely got the rain -- it was coming down decently this morning, and then it basically just POURED all this afternoon. You could see it running down the street like a river! And even without the high winds, we STILL had two power blinks this afternoon (which were exceedingly annoying -- I was in the middle of something, power grid!). And while the rain HAS finally stopped now, the temperature is supposed to PLUMMET tomorrow, meaning NOW we may be facing the possibility of ice...we'll see what happens in the morning! If it turns out it's a skating rink out there, I may be getting another day off.
That being said, while the weather was utterly horrible, my day very much wasn't --
Dentist: Visit went well, I’m happy to say! :) It wasn’t raining too hard when I left around 10:40 AM, meaning I didn’t have a terrible ride up there, and while I had to wait around for a bit for my appointment (they were pretty busy), I ended up getting a full cleaning from one of the dentists who told me I’m doing a good job and to keep it up. :) Whole thing took a little over an hour, and I’m now all good to go in June. Yay!
Tumblr: Just Victor Luvs Alice today, and while I didn’t have a lot of time to do drafting, I got a couple of things done –
A) After I got back from the dentist, I spent the time before lunch writing up a couple of new Christmas-themed Valicer “Not-Incorrect Quotes” to add to my previous collection (much like how I did around Halloween), featuring Smiler texting Victor and Alice to tell them about the wonders of Hot Frosty, an actual Christmas movie where a woman accidentally brings a sexy snowman to life and he teaches her how to love again (yes, this is a real Hallmark movie that exists), and Smiler trying to get Victor and Alice to do an ornament swap, only to learn that Victor only has super-delicate glass ornaments from his parents he’s terrified to break, and Alice doesn’t have any because of the fire, and going “We are going SHOPPING.” XD Though I recently remembered that my planned second scene was ACTUALLY going to be Smiler getting Victor to kiss them with the help of a mistletoe headband, and then Alice showing up and kissing them as well because “well, we are kind of fucking.” XD Now I get to decide if I want to add that one to the list or not...decisions, decisions...
B) And then, this afternoon, I created a virtual Christmas tree on the Deco My Tree app and posted a link on tumblr, tagging in some friends so they could decorate the tree and leave messages should they so choose! For that is the whole reason for the app – you make a virtual tree (picking a name, color, and topper), then you give people the link so they can choose decorations for it and write little messages, which are delivered to you on Christmas. :) One of the poly blogs I pop into sometimes on tumblr made one, as did my friend Newt, so I figured “why not” and made myself a purple tree under the name “ValicerLover.” :) We’ll see what I get when Christmas rolls around!
Sims 4: I did indeed end up working some more on my Polyheart OT3 house today, seeking to finish off the kitchen/dining room – and I’m proud to report I did so! :D It took a little fighting with “move objects on” and a lot of staring at things in the Build/Buy catalog, but I did eventually get it all to come together. Let me give you the overview –
A) Started by updating the dining nook area, since I indicated back on Saturday that I’d realized the light-colored wallpaper with the white wood trim I’d initially chosen for this part of the room just didn’t work with the black wood Vampires chairs that I wanted to use (the only ones I could find that had blue, red, and yellow cushions all with the same wood swatch). After a decent amount of time spent agonizing over choices and using the color filters to look for any wallpaper that had black wood trim, I finally settled on a nice Vampires faux-Victorian wallpaper with a vaguely-floral pattern in green. *shrug* It looked nice, what can I say? I then changed the wood tones on the column in the corner and the archway into the room to match the new black wood trim –
And then proceeded to spend another decent amount of time agonizing over dining table choices! Because I wanted something that went with the chairs I’d picked, but also something that was fun, but I couldn’t seem to get both out of the same table – at least, the same small table, but whenever I tried a bigger table it quickly proved to be too big for the room, and – aaaah! *shakehead* I finally ended prioritizing “went with the chairs” over “something fun,” and while I was tempted by a mosaic-topped City Living table, I settled on a Cottage Living table in dark wood with a nice white tablecloth. *sigh* I wanted one of the more fun tablecloths, but those all came matched with different wood tones, and – no. The rest of the room is colorful enough! I got that set up against the side wall, across from the fridge and stove and whatnot; took a moment to recolor the curtains over the window in the diagonal wall to better match the new wallpaper (nice dark green curtains with a leaf-pattern sheer over the window itself) –
B) And then it was time to turn on “bb.moveobjects on” and continue decorating the kitchen! I did a lot of fiddling with various bits and pieces here, trying to get things to go where I wanted them instead of snapping to specific slots on the counters or getting stuck in the wall (seriously, when you’re trying to adjust the placement of items on counters with MOO, it seems like the minute you move the counter out of the way so you can place the object you’re working with hovering in the right spot for when you slide said counter back in, it’ll just fly into the wall and act like it’s stuck there for some reason until you manage to pull the camera back JUUUUST enough), but in the end I managed to wrestle them all into submission! Here’s what ended up going where –
I. After trying a couple of different spots for the cookie jar I added last week, I managed to raise it up into the air and wrestle it into position so it sat on the top shelf of the decorative Cool Kitchen wall shelves that sit over the counters next to the fridge. I also put a Cottage Living teapot (in the yellow and blue swatch) over on the other side of the shelf, where there was another spot that needed filling (I originally put a jar of hot peppers up there, but decided I didn’t like the look). Honestly, these shelves should just HAVE slots for decorative items so I don’t have to do all this ridiculous wrestling with MOO, but I’m happy I got both of them up there in the end!
II. I slid a fun little base game pitcher of wooden cooking utensils (classic spoon, fork-like thing, all that) into the gap behind the measuring bowl and kitchen scale I added next to the stand mixer last time, since I really wanted something like that included, and the pitcher version was a lot nicer than the plain old cup version. I also used MOO to adjust the placement of the knife block and salt and pepper shakers on the counter next to the mixer so they were in better positions and freed up more space on said counter for cooking (in fact, I think that, since I ended up MOOing both objects into not technically taking up slots, that counter SHOULD actually be a valid cooking surface for Sims now! Not that it matters, show home, but it’s still a neat thought).
III. I put some nice multicolored Cottage Living canisters behind the cookbook on the counter on the other side of the oven (yellow, red, and GREEN, unfortunately – rotated them so the little green one was hidden behind the yellow and red ones) – you know, for baking stuff! Can’t have a kitchen without your flour and sugar containers!
IV. I put a microwave on the internal corner counter (Schmapple brand in red, of course) – I really wanted to have SOME sort of extra kitchen appliance there, and it felt like the most logical one over the waffle maker or the pizza oven. Though know I would have fit those in if I could have! (I actually attempted to put the waffle maker on top of the fridge with MOO, but the game wouldn’t let me – possibly because it’s a functional object and not décor.)
V. I put a nice Cottage Living pitcher next to the coffee maker on the right (in the same swatch as the teapot – in fact, originally the pitcher was on the left, and the teapot on the right, but when I decided to put the teapot on the shelves, I moved the pitcher), and a roll of paper towels next to the sink next to it, using MOO to guide both into place as the game wanted me to basically put the paper towels half IN the sink. *shakehead* I think some of these decorative objects should take up smaller slots on the countertop than they actually do!
*nods* So now we have what feels like an APPROPRIATE amount of clutter in the kitchen. Hooray!
C) With the kitchen sorted (or as sorted as I could get it with the space available to me), I moved onto decorating the dining nook! Couldn’t have my trio eating their meals next to a blank wall, could I? After looking through my décor options, I ended up putting the giant painted panels with various seasonal scenes from Seasons on the wall over the dining table (moving it out a tiny bit with ALT to prevent clipping), sticking with the “traveling through a forest in summer” scene as I liked that best; the base game map print on the wall behind Smiler’s chair, next to the light switch (most of the other paintings I tried there were just too big for the wall); a small Vintage Glamour centerpiece of purple flowers in an angular black vase on the table (it looked nice and was appropriate to the table’s size!); a Cottage Living fig plant in the corner behind Alice’s chair; and a Jungle Adventures exotic fern with yellow flowers in the corner behind Smiler’s chair. Just wanted some greenery to liven up the place! :) And, while I was looking for appropriate artwork, I stumbled across an Island Living wall decoration of a laughing man that I thought would suit Smiler’s room (in the most colorful swatch, of course), and that trio of paintings from Kid’s Room Stuff that has a rather Wonderlandian swatch of a rabbit in a waistcoat, a cat enjoying some tea, and a dog looking vaguely disconcerted that I decided had to go in Alice’s room. *nods* So that all worked out just fine!
So yeah – with all of that, I think it’s safe to declare the kitchen/dining room all sorted! :) Feels good to get another room done. Maybe next time we’ll work on the trio’s shared bedroom? We’ll see...
Writing: Edited another gift fic today – the one I wrote for Satirical Demon, about the VITD trio getting stuck in the “Beneath A Broken Sky” verse! Featuring the VITD Victor and the BABS Alice talking about how fucked up the BABS world is (with poor VITD Victor noting that he’s gone from sensing ghosts all the time in Duskwall to sensing “horrors the likes of which you’ve never seen” all the time here); poor Smiler having to be quarantined thanks to their blessing from Mar-Mal (Dr. Daniel and his patron are working on it!); and how similar-yet-different VITD Victor is from his counterpart in the BABS verse. Leading to VITD laying the credit solely at HIS Alice and Smiler’s feet...and BABS Alice asking how they fell in love, because their appearance on the scene has got her thinking about her feelings toward her own Victor. Took me a bit to get sorted (had to go back to “Beneath A Broken Sky” to refresh my memory on some stuff), but I rather like the end product. :D Hopefully Satirical will too! That’s officially half the Christmas gift fics finished as of today – now I just have to get the final prompts for the last two I have to write...
YouTube: Started a little late tonight, but I still got in two videos –
A) First, we had something I spotted while browsing the “#severance” tag on tumblr last night before going to bed – “Severance — Season 2 Official Trailer | Apple TV+” by Apple TV! The longest and most official of the trailers for the new season yet, this one is a doozy, showing off stuff like the Innies being told that they’re the face of “Severance Reform” after their little outing at the end of the last season (liiiies, and I think the Innies know it); Mark S telling the others about what he learned about his Outie’s supposedly-dead wife, and saying that they have to get her out of Lumon; the discovery of an even bigger bunch of goats, this time with grass and a goatherd and everything; and Mark Scout (the Outie) finally confronting his neighbor Mrs. Selvig/his Innie’s boss Miss Cobel about what she knows. It’s very intriguing stuff, and I’m starting to think that one of the things I should have asked for as a present is a temporary subscription to Apple TV+ so I could watch the damn show! XD Ah well, I shall find a way...
B) And second, we had GrayStillPlays and “Cars cutting planets in GTA 5!” Yes, having done challenges with giant planets, and challenges with giant lightsabers, Gray’s torture team decided to combine the two tonight to force Gray to complete challenges involving the cutting of various bodies in the solar system! Specifically, Gray had to make it through the following three trials –
I. Cutting Mini Moon – Gray had to use a motorcycle with a lightsaber mounted on the front (that could and WOULD set him on fire if he walked through it) to jump a giant gap, chop a tiny moon in half, and knock down its component parts to remove the two panels blocking a thumbnail hole in front of the checkpoint. He then had to glide his motorcycle through said hole in order to complete the challenge. This was harder than it sounded, mostly because Gray had a bit of a time lining things up so he could hit the mini moon while flying past it, and because he was out of practice getting motorcycles to glide via glitchy means. He got there in the end, but it took QUITE a few tries, poor guy. And even when he did get it, he crashed and slid through the checkpoint face first. XD Whatever works, I guess!
II. Saturn On The Chopping Block – Gray had to use an armored arena car (complete with boost) to drive around the rings of Saturn and disable three “quantum bombs” (weird glowing things in little clear “barrels”) by knocking them over before making his way to the checkpoint – all while Kylo Ren’s lightsaber kept slicing into the planet, making a wider and wider gap in the rings that Gray would have to jump to reach all the bombs. Gray quickly found that he needed a PERFECT run to beat this one – if he flipped the car or did a 360 spin while jumping, he was done. AND he had to complete the whole challenge before the gap got too wide for him to jump, even at its narrowest point. AND he had to avoid being hit by the lightsaber himself, because then bad things happened. Basically, this one demanded nothing less than his best performance. Good thing Gray was stubborn enough to keep trying until he got there!
III. Through The Core Of The Earth – Gray had 60 seconds to fly into a sliced-in-half earth on the futuristic gliding boosted motorcycle and destroy the core (a little yellow sun hovering above a lake of fire in the middle) with his rockets before zooming to the checkpoint in its little cylinder on the other side, squeezing in between rocks and dodging meteors and planes the whole time. This was another one that demanded a perfect run – if Gray hit or got hit by anything, be it invisible walls above some rocks, meteors, or the landing gear of a plane, he was NOT going to have the time to make it all the way across to the checkpoint. In the end, his best strategy was just to hit the boost constantly, spam his rockets at the right time, and pray. XD But he succeeded, and got teleported to the mountain where the win was waiting for him –
Aaaand proceeded to miss it. XD Meaning he had to circle back around, kill some tourists to relieve his feelings, and try again. Fortunately, he got it on the second go-round, meaning the remaining tourists would be spared. :p Can’t wait to see what the next ridiculous challenge shall be!
Workout: Another night on the bike, another night with the GrayStillPlays compilation “When every natural disaster hits Earth at once!” Finished off the Hurricane Outbreak video (with Gray making the storm so big it could no longer be seen and killing every person in the game) and got through Gray hacking City Smash (doing things like making fireworks that could vaporize buildings and nukes that hit the ground at lightspeed) and screwing around in OUTBRK (the tornado-chasing game, where he gave his character infinite money to buy new clothes and a proper car before getting her pelted by golf-ball-sized hail, sending her directly into a tornado, then flinging her around with a super-tornado he spawned in the starting area). Just started the “runner” game where you can play as a giant tsunami, eating boats and things to become big enough to wash away an entire coastal community before ending for the day – we’ll remind ourselves how THAT went tomorrow!
Yeah, I'll take that as a day off. :) And now I have to go to bed, as I am back to work tomorrow. At least it's only for two days! Just hoping they aren't too painful...night all!
That being said, while the weather was utterly horrible, my day very much wasn't --
