Not much to say about it, honestly -- let's just hop right into the write-up:

Work – It was another pretty quiet day at work, with me spending my time:

A) Getting through the usual check scan and morning reports

B) Sorting some old e-mails into inbox categories now that they were taken care of

C) Gathering some pledge card scans to attach to future reversals (applying payments to pledges and changing parishes on gifts and such)

D) Doing some roster maintenance and cleaning up all the members of a particular family (marking a few people deceased and merging a trio of records that all proved to be the same guy)

E) Doing all the reversals that I needed to do

F) And e-mailing the credit card company to ask for a THIRD TIME that they put up a missing Capital Campaign pledge payment *huffs*

Nothing particularly exciting, as you can see! But I suppose the day went by, and that’s all I can ask for. *nods* We’ll see what happens tomorrow!

To-Do List

1. Get in a workout: Check – back on the bike, and back with “Let's Play Resident Evil Requiem: FINAL EPISODE | Episode 9!” Today’s roughly-a-half-hour featured –

A) Leon proceeding through the facility, finding the (of course locked) room he needed and fighting more lickers as Mike brought up a terrifying possibility – LEON ending up the final boss as he succumbed to his T-Virus infection. Andy immediately declared “I’ll never allow it,” then pointed out that the “women of Capcom” who designed Leon would never allow for him to die or mutate into something unsexy. It was much more likely that he’d be somehow miraculously cured, and then his shirt would come off in tatters. XD It’s what the game’s been building up to!

B) Leon braving the Room Of Containers that had so confused Andy before, leaping down and doing a cool combat roll before raiding containers and shooting lickers – Andy praised him for handing jumping down three meters better than Grace, asking if they didn’t teach cool combat rolls in FBI training...which turned into a mini-discussion of who they could see in the FBI doing combat rolls (Jodie Foster as Claire from The Silence Of The Lambs yes; David Duchovny as Fox Mulder from The X-Files no, but he’d try to do them). Mike also brought up how the lickers took three sniper bullets to the head to go down despite having an exposed brain – Andy theorized it was “a bit calcified,” while Mike suggested the brains had gone rubbery and the bullets were thus bouncing off. :p

C) Leon using a console to open up a secret passageway to another room off the side of the container room, fighting yet more lickers, and using a console up THERE to open up another exit while the OXBoxers discussed if the famous Resident Evil characters would be in the upcoming Resident Evil movie (Mike thought maybe a cameo at the end); people’s fears about the movie and if it would be any good (Jane argued that the original RE movie was pretty decent, but Mike pointed out it had had a number of terrible sequels, plus a shitty TV series followup, so – understandable people would side-eye this new entry); how gross it was when lickers tried to stand up on two legs (it does look very unpleasant); and wondering what would happen if the licker came with a coat (Mike pointed out that was not happening for a mere 14 million) and where the hell they were even GETTING these coats for the Tyrants for their “human disguises” (Andy suggested Coco Chanel, while Mike went with the “Big & Large” store XD).

D) Leon having another T-Virus moment climbing the alternate set of stairs he’d unlocked into the room he needed to enter, then managing to claim the override key for “Bioweapon Repository 11!” He then headed out the door and retraced his steps through the hallway of dead lickers back to the bioweapon storage room with all the explosive canisters...where he heard yet more lickers crawling about. Cue Andy choosing to take a few potshots at the ones he could see crawling around on the ceiling, then run back the way he’d come, through the office with the override key and down into the container room again, to lure the lickers out of the repository so he could just work his way around them! How did that go?

Poorly! :D Mostly because there were many, many more lickers than Andy had been anticipating, meaning they didn’t all follow him down to the container room like he’d been hoping – instead, after killing one down there and successfully fleeing the others, he went back up to the catwalk outside the office and found three more waiting for him. And THEN he ended up having another wibbly T-virus moment! Like, he did successfully kill all the lickers menacing him with the help of his shotgun, his machine gun, and a grenade, but it was not an easy task in the slightest! Probably should have taken advantage of one of those explosive canisters, Andy…

E) Leon then returning to the repository and using the override key to turn the power back on and summon the elevator...which of course came very slowly, forcing him to fight a few white zombies that burst out of their containment tubes to menace him. Fortunately, in this case, Andy was able to make good use of the explosive canisters to take out most of the zombies menacing him (after Leon got done having ANOTHER T-Virus moment), tossing a sharp chunk at metal at the remaining guy to stop him – and even better, he only had to deal with the one wave before the elevator arrived. Which you would think constituted tossing Leon a bone…

Except, during the ride up in the elevator, his vision went all wibbly and blue again...and didn’t recover. Cue Leon stumbling down a hallway coughing and wheezing while the OXBoxers wondered if he really was going to die making some sort of heroic sacrifice (Jane and Mike were of the opinion that he’d TRY, then he’d be saved because, you know, beloved protagonist), then very weakly climbing some fancy stairs in a very yellow stairwell, constantly coughing up blood, before slumping against the doors at the top…

F) A cut back to Grace at the big GTA Online console, watching the video labeled “Grace” and discovering another chunk of the interview her mother Alyssa had with Spencer at the end of his life, with him talking about his research opened Pandora’s box and unleashed disaster on the world – and Alyssa commenting “Except Elpis...the goddess of hope?” while the OXBoxers realized “Oh yeah, hope was the last thing in Pandora’s box after she opened it and let all the evils out.” He then commented about how he had been wrong and was wracked with guilt, and how happiness couldn’t be achieved at the expense of others –

Before rapping his cane on the floor and summoning an aide to end the interview...an aide who came in carrying a baby. Alyssa was like “is that one of your subjects?” but Spencer said she was not – she was a little girl who was alone in the world, who he took in to make amends. A perfectly normal little girl who was his hope –

Cue Jane joking “and that’s why we named her Grace.” XD Yes, as was revealed when Alyssa accepted his invitation to hold her, that normal little girl was indeed baby Grace, who just very coincidentally looked like the woman who would become her mom. Jane did not believe for a moment that Spencer hadn’t experimented on her. XD Anyway, the video wrapped up with Spencer telling Alyssa when she asked if he had anything more to say that he’d said his piece, and that he hoped it served as a requiem for the dead (title drop). Nice and all, but as Mike pointed out, it did not make for a good newspaper article. :p

G) Grace spotting the very-unwell Leon on the stairs on a nearby monitor as an alarm went off and hurrying to get to him – which involved going through a nearby door into a weirdly-fancy mansion-like area, which took Andy off guard. This proved to be Spencer’s private office, and the necessary “mansion” bit of any Resident Evil game – Andy thought there might be puzzles, especially when he spotted a random “M” on one of the paintings, but no, it proved to be just a pass-through area for Grace with a private elevator to exactly where she needed to go. I guess the game realized there was no time for lollygagging in this instance – not with Leon’s life on the line! (Though it might have been funny to force Grace to do one last puzzle before she could proceed – it IS kind of a series classic.)

H) Grace catching up with Leon at the top of the yellow stairs back into central refinement/Pandora – fortunately, he wasn’t quite dead yet (the OXBoxers all cheered when he claimed to have just been resting his eyes), and she was able to help him up so they could stagger together back onto the platform where Zeno awaited. Grace told him that she didn’t know the password, but Leon pointed out that they didn’t need it – all Grace had to do was enter the wrong one, and everything would be destroyed. Mike promptly wondered why they hadn’t done all that the first time around, and what the hell the whole point of the detour through the garbage dump had even been. XD The man brings up a good point! Anyway, Leon promised to buy Grace some time if she needed it, but she assured him that she had an idea –

And then, as they approached Zeno, declared that she had the password, and told him that she’d only “fulfill her destiny” if he let Leon live. Zeno was like “very well” and cleared the area for Grace to approach the console, while the OXBoxers argued that she should negotiate for the cure first, THEN pretend to put in the password. Because that was just common sense, and it didn’t help Leon to wait! Kind of hard to cure someone while the place is self-destructing, after all…

I) The game suddenly throwing Andy and company a curveball by giving them a choice as to whether Grace destroyed or released Elpis! Jane was like “why would we not destroy Elpis?” but Andy argued that the interview that they’d just seen indicated that Spencer regretted his life’s work and wanted to leave some hope behind, so maybe Elpis was something good. And not a mind-control virus, as previously hinted, or a memory-transfer device of some kind for Spencer’s memories to be implanted in Grace, like Andy had previously theorized. Mike pointed out that if Elpis was the cure for the T-Virus, they definitely needed it for Leon, but Jane was still suspicious, pointing out that there was what Umbrella wanted to do and what Umbrella actually did, and that if they’d tried their hands at a global panacea, it probably was another virus that turned everybody into gray goo (or “a man in a coat,” as per Mike). So she was all for destroying it. Andy still wanted to release it, though, so he turned to Mike as the tiebreaker –

And Mike was like “I just want to see what the hell it is, release it.” XD Curiosity killed the cat, and possibly also the world!

J) Grace thus remembering all the times her mother and Spencer used the word “hope” and realizing that was the password, putting it in, and releasing a canister with a bunch of tubes of mysterious bright yellow liquid (very appropriate considering the gang kept insisting on calling Elpis “Elf Piss”) as a guy in a coat arrived (to Mike and Andy’s laughing horror). Leon asked what Grace was doing as she claimed a vial, with her trying to tell him how Spencer regretted what he did in the end –

Only for Zeno to interrupt, grab a vial for himself, and advance on Leon menacingly – before jamming the needle into his own neck so the poor dying man could experience his power firsthand. Jane was like “see I told you” –

And then the black T-Virus veins on Zeno’s face started fading as Grace explained that Elpis wasn’t what he thought it was and that she was never any key, she was just an ordinary person. And when he demanded what it was, Leon was EASILY able to tackle him before he could try to hurt her. Cue Grace declaring that Elpis was Spencer’s atonement and an antiviral (Andy, delighted: “It IS a cure!”) –

And cue Dr. Gideon – beaten, tattered, and down an arm – being revealed as the guy in the coat, admitting he was humbled by his master’s genius. Oh dear.

K) Zeno and Gideon having an argument over Elpis – Zeno angrily snapping that all of Gideon’s work was for the wrong thing, and Gideon noting that Spencer’s paper had been incomplete; Zeno snarling that he’d wasted a lot of time and money on this, and Gideon explaining that Elpis rendered all viral weapons useless and that the global order would be upset by everyone now have the ability to nullify each other’s bioweapons; Zeon furiously noting that they’d wanted a weapon while Gideon cackled that instead they would have anarchy and that he would bring Spencer’s vision to the world – while Grace stood on the sidelines listening and not injecting Leon with the cure (which the OXBoxers definitely called her out for, and rightly so). The argument between Zeno and Gideon eventually ended with Zeno declaring that “The Connections” would no longer have anything to do with Gideon –

And Gideon growing a tentacle arm and decapitating him. O.O Everyone was appropriately stunned, as you might imagine! He then followed this up with stabbing Grace in the stomach and going to collect his own vial, causing Grace – who knew Gideon should NOT be allowed near this stuff – to FINALLY stab Leon and cure his T-Virus infection. Causing Leon to wake up –

Just in time for Gideon to start the self-destruct and collapse the room. *sigh* As Mike noted, you could have handled that, so, so differently, Grace.

L) Everyone toppling into the lower levels of the ARK facility as Pandora crashed down, with Leon doing a cool slide off the falling platform to land perfectly on the platform below (the OXBoxers: “Your KNEES, Leon”) but losing track of Grace in the process...and having his search for her interrupted by Gideon showing up and demanding a boss fight! Leon obliged him while Andy obliged Mike by using the Requiem (Mike was quite pleased), and the two battled it out, with Leon shooting Gideon as he jumped around and swung his tentacles and used mysterious electricity powers to try and wreck Leon (Jane noted that he had real “Doctor Octa” vibes – meaning Doctor Octopus – and that Andy saying that he’d cast Alfred Molina as the guy in a film was surprisingly on the mark). Eventually, he caused enough damage to Gideon to cause the bad doctor to stagger to the edge of the platform and drop off, prompting the OXBoxers to guess what Gideon would come back as (Andy and Mike agreed on “Big Weird Spider,” while Jane went with something with eyeballs – they settled on “big weird spider covered in eyeballs”)…

And then to be like “oh fuck, didn’t expect that” when he actually crawled back up as something that could be charitably described as “The Gaping Dragon From Dark Souls Except With More Tentacles And More Nodules.” XD Turns out Dr. Gideon was a Nemesis all along (like the one pursing Jill in RE3 – Jane argued he didn’t look like that one until Andy reminded her how that one turned into a “triangle of flesh” at the end)! Fortunately, he was still also a Resident Evil boss, and thus was required to have glowing weak spots, so Leon just shot at those, taking a few hits from Nemesis Gideon’s big devil-like arms, until he finally popped them all and was able to run up the guy’s body, hatchet his main nodule, and take him down with a few last shots from Requiem. *nods* All in a day’s work for Leon S. Kennedy!

And so our chunklet ended with Leon trying both to get in touch with Sherry and find Grace among the wreckage post-boss-fight. Tomorrow, we’ll finish this off and see what the big ending scene is! And then probably watch the next list video because why the hell not. :P

2. Edit Squid’s birthday gift fic: Check – took a dive back into the archives of my and Squid’s VTMB RP stuff tonight to read through the relevant bits of the relevant scenes again, then did another pass on my “Ash (Rivers) convinces Bianca (Hawke, one of Squid’s VTMB OCs and Ash’s girlfriend in the RP) to let him keep the terrible baseball hat he was wearing as a ‘disguise’ on his first night back in LA because he associates it with the night that they properly met” story I wrote them! Can’t say I changed much during the editing process, though – mostly, I just bulked up the bit where Bianca and Ash talk about said first night back in LA. Specifically, I added in Bianca bringing up the moment where Ash dove under a table to avoid facing Isaac again when the Baron of Hollywood was summoned to The Last Round. XD (Yes, that is indeed something we roleplayed out!) But other than that, it was mostly just rewording a few bits here and there – making sure my phrasing was just right and whatnot. *shrug* I’m happy enough with it – we’ll see what Squid thinks on Saturday!

3. Watch something on YouTube: No check, we all know why, let’s not dwell.

4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: No check – I’d HOPED to get my Saturday posts sorted (Squid’s birthday fic and Song Saturday offering), but, well, Workout Video Write-Up happened. I’ll have to get them into the queue tomorrow – or maybe Friday, so I can just reset the queue speed then. We’ll see what happens!

And, as usual, the Workout Video Write-Up ends up taking up most of my evening. *shakehead* I have to figure out something to do about that -- in the meantime, I'm off to bed. Night all.
