Finally Friday

Kinda wanted to write "Finalley Friday" up there, but she doesn't actually come around until Sunday. XD Anyway, less-than-pleasant day at work -- the work itself wasn't so bad, I suppose (mostly working on a spreadsheet), but there was coworker tension with the Talker, and politics discussion between her and the other one that put me on edge, and just -- ugh. Just thinking about it makes me angry, so I'm trying not to. Just glad for the long weekend.

And I have to say, I had a pretty productive evening:

1. Get in a workout: Check! Walked on the treadmill to end the week, so had a good long run of Jon’s Fallout 4 Survival Playthrough! I rejoined Grills on the verge of meeting up with Danse, though of course before he did that, he had to put on his best fancy dress so he had the best chance of reasoning with him. Danse, as per canon, was ready to die for what he was, but Jon was so caught up in his “maybe this Danse is still human, I’m not killing you if there is REALLY no way to be sure” thoughts that he forgot Grills was supposed to be a good little BOS soldier and instead Charisma-checked his way to convincing Danse he should stay alive (choosing the “Maxson’s Wrong” option no less!). Of course, he wasn’t ready to encounter Maxson himself outside the bunker, but he managed to talk his way past Maxson too (saying he would put all of the trust and respect he’d earned in the Brotherhood on the line to save Danse), and got the ending where Danse is allowed to live, albeit hiding out at Listening Point Bravo. (Jon was deeply amused by Danse “loving” being allowed to live in companion affinity terms. XD) Grills said his goodbyes and ended up using Institute teleport to get back home (seems a dangerous thing to do outside the hideout of a now-known synth), and ended the episode with a nice rad scrub, at last.

Episode 41 started with a quick trip to Diamond City to score some antibiotics and bits for the Crippling Gauss Rifle, which he decided to take with him on his further adventures in the northwestern corner of the map. He touched down at County Crossing via vertibird, then headed over to the National Guard training yard to find some plasma grenades he had an eyebot pod go searching for ages ago (I’m not sure if I mentioned this? He came across this pod around the same time he met up with Haylen for the Sentinel Site mission). A few ghouls were still around, including a couple of legendaries! Jon got Grills a Two-Shot Combat Rifle – there was also a VATS-Assisted one, but he considered that one less useful. He also remembered that there was a sentry bot lying in wait at some point during the adventures and tried to set a trap for it with mines – but thanks to the way the game spawned the enemy, it missed most of them and Jon was forced to fight an LEGENDARY ANNIHILATOR SENTRY BOT. He somehow managed to live through the encounter – and didn’t even get that much good kit out of it! And when he decided to port back to base after all that excitement to lighten his load, he discovered the Two-Shot Combat Rifle couldn’t even keep up with his other guns. Meeeh. Shame. At least he did eventually get the plasma grenades!

Back to County Crossing, Grills picked up a “save this kidnapped settler” mission, then headed on down to what looked like an old factory, but proved to be a shipyard – Irish Pride Shipyard, in fact. Grills gunned down some bloodbugs outside, and some mirelurks inside, looking for things of interest. And he found them – a boat with a usable bed, and a terminal from someone named Rory, who was apparently trying to raise and tame the mirelurks. I’m actually already familiar with Rory from other Fallout 4 videos I’ve watched (namely, the companions reactions to finding Rory’s corpse among his “Murkies”), but I didn’t realize this was the location! Jon was all for finding the steamer trunk of valuables Rory hid among his mirelurks, though so far his attempts at getting down at it have been stymied by him accidentally exploding himself along with a mirelurk by throwing a grenade at it from above. XD Good thing that bed was there for a save!

2. Stay current on YouTube Subscriptions:: Check! Back on track with the following --

A) Started with this week’s Fun With Shorts – “Bookkeeping And You,” a Coronet film about how all high schools should have a class on bookkeeping, claiming it can help everyone everywhere! Which – yeah, of course it’s important to keep good records, but come on. The fact that you focused so much on the kid who plans to take over his father’s grocery store said it all. XD Of course, Josh came with the good snark, making for an enjoyable eight minutes. :p

B) Then it was onto today’s Call Me Kevin – Fallout 3! Another video sponsored by Oculus – and a game called Pistol Whip, which is apparently is a rhythm shooter? *shrug* Whatever keeps your lights on, Kevin. . .anyway, I thought maybe FO3 had come to VR, but nope, just regular old FO3. Kevin brought back the ultra-pale, ultra-slouchy Grognak (yes) for The Pitt DLC. I BELIEVE the story there is to infiltrate a slaver camp in the remains of Pittsburgh, PA, and help free the people there or join the slavers – but Kevin skipped over most of the story stuff and – after three rounds in the Arena to earn his freedom as a fake slave – decided the best course of action was to kidnap a baby and then kill everyone indiscriminately. And then, when teaming back up with the one NPC spared his wrath, declare himself “Lord of the Pitt.” XD It was pretty classic Kevin, and I quite enjoyed it! I hope he does more Fallout stuff going forward – I’ve already watched his older videos on FO4. . .

C) And over to Gray, it was time to go back to Turbo Dismount challenges! Including a “Frogger” challenge with extra cars and extra pain, a “fall down the hole” challenge with two layers of traffic to dodge, aaaand TWO challenges involving shooting a car straight up a ramp to dodge the traffic flying through the air. As you might imagine, these challenges were a pain in Gray’s ass. XD Not in the Shuriken’s, though – would you believe the most useless orange motorcycle zoomed to victory on not one, but TWO challenges? Yup, the first of the “aerial dodges” and the Frogger! Mostly because, if you get the timings right, it’s really good at launching Nic Rage past danger in such a way he keeps all his bones. XD Good times, good times.

D) Bonus videos – two clips from The Pete Holmes Show with John Mulaney talking about how he got engaged to his wife Anna. First one I watched was him relating his first attempt to propose on a beach – the one they previously had such a nice time on was crawling with weirdos when they went back on the day, so they ended up having to go to a different beach; second one was about how the surprise was ruined when John tried to use Pete as an alibi to go buy the engagement ring (saying they were having lunch together), only for Pete to Instagram a picture of him doing a podcast with somebody, cluing Anna in that something was up. XD Fun stuff, especially with the way Pete kept cracking up.

3. Write on “In A World Of His Own”: Check – in fact, I finished it! *phfeeee* Mostly because the last chapter is currently a super-short “okay here’s Victor meeting the King like I said I’d write eventually” epilogue, but hey! I think it works just fine, and there’s always the chance it’ll grow in a second draft. :) The important thing right now is it’s done, and that’s one of my current projects in the bag! Now let’s see if I can wrap up “Londerland Bloodlines” tomorrow. . .

So that's all good stuff. I'm currently just trying to wrap up stuff now before writing things -- namely my Valice Multiverse and VictorLuvsAlice queues. Let's get down the to-do list for tomorrow:

1. Clean my room (as it is a Cleaning Saturday)

2. Play Sims 4, finish off the Liddell-Van Dort cycle of the Newcrest Save

3. Watch the latest Atop The Fourth Wall, Red Plumbob, and Plumbella videos in my Watch Later, and Kevin and Gray in my Subscriptions

4. Write on "Londerland Bloodlines" and see if I can finish it

These seem like reasonable goals for a cleaning Saturday. *nods* And now for reasonable goals for a Friday night -- finishing my Saturday tumblr queues and answering comments before doing writing thing! Night all!
