Some Bad News Friday

Well, it seems the leak situation is worse than first thought, as Dad apparently found more evidence of leaking after my and Mom's showers tonight -- we thought we'd found a cover-up for the initial hole, but there's another one on the side of the tub, and -- well. Suffice to say there's going to be a lot of calking and whatnot tomorrow to try and fix all these little gaps. *sigh* We'll see if we have to pull a professional plumber in later.

And on top of that -- car's totaled. Finally heard from the body shop today, and apparently the guy hit me hard enough that the rear frame is bent, and replacing that is more than the car is worth. So that's lovely. We'll apparently be getting the value of the car from the other guy's insurance -- we'll know more about that on Monday -- and then. . .well. Time to find a new car, because I have to have a method of getting to work that isn't being taken in Dad's truck. *sigh x2* Exactly what I wanted to do this summer. . .

Anyway. I didn't make an official to-do list yesterday, as stated, so here's a variation on the Standard Weekday One:

Minigolf – Went fine! We got up to West End Creamery shortly after they opened and found they’d reoriented the course – whereas you used to start at the bottom of the slope and work yourself around in a loop going up, now you start at the top of the hill and go around in a loop going down. We were all pretty rusty – not a single hole-in-one, and getting a two on a hole was a pretty rare occurrence. Poor Mom got stuck on one hole and got a twelve, ouch. But we made it through without embarrassing ourselves TOO much – Dad got 56, I got 66, and Mom got 69 in the end. *shrug*

We also got ice cream, because, you know, it is a creamery. Mom got a sugar-free cone of coffee; Dad a hot fudge sundae with pistachio ice cream; and I got the Sundae of the Month, Cookie Monster – cookie dough ice cream with hot fudge, a cookie crumble, whipped cream, cherry, and a small cookie on top (looked like Chips Ahoy). Very nice, though I’m very glad I got the small size! XD All in all, I was a little anxious at first, but thanks to getting there early and then going through the course about two holes between everyone else, I felt a lot better about things. Starting to relax again a little bit – we’ll see how the rest of the summer goes!

Portal Reloaded – Yup, I downloaded the new mod for Portal 2 at last! I decided, after seeing Kevin playing some of it, that I wanted to play it myself after finishing up Alice: Madness Returns. Hell, it was released on Portal 2’s tenth anniversary, so it’s a good way to celebrate! It’s a free download on Steam, has overwhelmingly positive reviews, and already it’s pretty fun! You play as Subject 4509 (aka a red-haired, lighter-skinned reskin of Chell), who has been in Long-Term Human Storage for about twenty years. She’s just been picked to try out the time-travel-based testing track with the triple-portal device for Aperture. Puzzles involve figuring out how to manipulate objects and portals between the past (relatively shiny Aperture) and the future (wrecked Aperture), with the key point that anything you do in the past will change up what’s happening in the future, but you can do shit in the future without it affecting the past (namely, you can always drag a future cube back in time to put on buttons, but don’t move the one in the present if you don’t want it to fizzle!). I just got through Chamber 9 – most of them I was able to figure out on my own, but Chamber 9 I had to look up because I wasn’t sure how to get the jump pad bit to work. (Turns out you need to put the time portal – which you now have the ability to shoot yourself – in a possibly-unexpected place). Good stuff, and I’m looking forward to getting through the rest of the puzzles! :)

Beanbags – Yes, we did this late this afternoon! Because why not, right? Had a decent day of it – 3-W-2-W-2, with Dad getting W-3-W-2-W and Mom getting 2-2-3-3-3. Yeah, poor Mom seems to be back on her losing streak – well, we’ll see if that changes over the weekend!

To-Do List

1. Get in a workout: No check today, but I wasn’t expecting to get it in anyway, given we were out and about. I’ll catch up on this tomorrow -- well, maybe. The shower will apparently be out of commission tomorrow as we attempt to fix the leaks, so it might be in my best interest to avoid doing anything that gets me sweaty!

2. Edit some more on “Londerland Bloodlines”: Check! Alice has learned from Mercurio that she’s supposed to blow up a Sabbat warehouse, but he doesn’t know where – turns out his would-be informant, Bertram Tung, has been forced underground by a feud with Therese Voerman, owner of The Asylum nightclub with her sister Jeannette. Alice is pulling for some more information on the two women, and while Mercurio’s happy to fill her in on Therese. . .he’s got some awkwardness talking about Jeannette. Because he’s “old-fashioned.” Alice is shortly to counter that with a facepalm and telling him her old nanny’s now a madam. XD Almost done with Chapter 2 now, yay!

3. Keep up with YouTube Subscriptions: Five-sixths check! I am officially caught up with all my regulars – I’m just down one Fun With Shorts, and given the name, I should be able to catch up with that tomorrow! Hoorah!

A) Started with something off-list to get me in the gaming mood – the launch trailer for the Portal Reloaded mod! The game looked – intriguingly complicated from that alone, honestly. XD Good thing I like the Portal series and horrible brain-bending puzzles!

B) Then, after the Reloaded fun, it was FINALLY time to fully catch up with James Turner and his latest two episodes of “Rags To Redecoration” –

I. 6/16/2021 – Hazel upgraded her apartment a bit, adding some proper end tables and some new floorboards and paint to her bedroom, then some new tiles and decorative stuff to the bathroom, as well as giving her shower a nice half-wall to separate it off from the rest of the place – a shame a “power is now just off thanks to an earlier phone call” glitch means she might have to move in the near future! Meh. She also chatted with an extremely angry Lord when he showed up for another “game night,” gave treats to some trick-or-treaters (yes, it is actually Halloween again for her), and then, the next morning, proceeded onto her next renovation – another Behr bedroom! Yeah, whenever James can’t find a renovation for her, it seems he defaults to the Behr sisters. XD Hazel chatted with the girls, then went to work, updating what I THINK is Candy’s bedroom to be a little less full of kid’s furniture for some reason. New chairs, new media center, upgraded desk, turning the wall with her graffiti sticker on it to brick, giving her a proper wardrobe and some Hazel Monet original paintings. . .oh, and putting up a big curtain to serve as a door because, the first time James visited, he was able to DELETE part of her wall, but not put it back. Whoops. XD As usual, the girls loved it – it wasn’t as over-the-top as his living room level reno, but he did throw in some Island-themed and Storybook-themed décor for them, so they were happy. XD Hazel’s basically redone their whole house now – just have to do a bathroom renovation or two for them, and they’ll be set! XD

II. 6/18/2021 – Hazel’s power is back on, yay! Though it keeps turning off every time she leaves her lot, because Sims 4 isn’t quite as glitchy as a Bethesda game yet, but it’s getting close. James is debating moving just to get away from it, and I don’t blame him.

Anyway – Hazel started off the episode deciding to get out of the house to check out the Festival of Light over in Mt. Komorebi! Because there is a possibility she’ll be marrying Chaz so she can join the Cottage Living LP, so James was hopeful about her actually meeting one of the 3 Brothers. As it turned out, though, who she met was his own Mad Scientist self-sim (from his extremely brief Scientist career LP) and – Chaz himself! Who had to be blurred as apparently he’s either hit teenager or young adult, but since the episodes of “3 Brothers” where he ages up haven’t come out yet, James decided he didn’t want to spoil the surprise. At least Hazel knows him now! Other than that, she mainly used the festival as a chance to socialize and get up her mischief skill to help her stealing – level 7 now, nice.

With that out of the way, it was time to head home, get some sleep, fix everything the gremlins broke, and then head to her next renovation – a Fabulous Living Room for the Charm family! Who, uh, really needed the renovation. Not just because they have a terrible EA build, mind – because good old Column from “Rags To Witches” visited their house in the past and SET PART OF IT ON FIRE. And killed matriarch Minerva in the bargain. …Probably a good thing Hazel doesn’t have the Bigwallet last name yet! Anyway, Hazel got from the surviving family members that they really like modern décor and the color green (and snowboarding, but Hazel didn’t know how to fit THAT in), and so set to work. . .not helped by Lord showing up randomly and stealing a bookcase. XD WELP. Hazel took her apartment key back (as that might be the source of the glitch), stole their couch, then redid the (very wonky) room with a more modern feel, using a sectional couch, a modular entertainment center, an apparently-mischievous laptop, and AWFUL green floor tiles. XD The game looked at James’s work and went “NOPE” and refused to do the actual reveal event, so he had to do the before/after in post. At least she got paid for it!

Back at home, she did some renovation of her own – separating part of her bedroom into a new walk-in closet, turning her bathroom into an on-suite, getting a nice coffee table, and building a currently-empty room to serve as a second bathroom. It’s all a little scattershot right now. . .but she has a level renovation for the Fryes that could turn things around. A cheap budget for an entire level of the house, buuut if she pulls it off – payday of $14,000. We’ll see how it goes!

C) Then, this evening, it was time to catch up with Call Me Kevin:

I. More GTA V RP with Grognak the Destroyer, Attorney at Law! Hers was an adventure in three parts today:

a. A trip with Steven Hayes (Burger Shot Survey Man) to the casino to try their luck – well, Grognak’s luck, Steven’s money – at some gambling! On the way there, we learned a bit about Steven’s tragic backstory (mainly his mother telling him he always talked too much), and Grognak accidentally knocked out his window. Grognak then proceeded to put Steven up for collateral in the casino, and then lost $1,900 at a turned-off roulette wheel and blackjack. But she had $2,100 of Steven’s money on her, so it’s not as bad as it could have been!

b. A trip in the Lucky Taxi with Roland, the guy who started the religion where everyone has to roll dice regarding everything they do. Grognak didn’t know exactly where she wanted to go, so Roland took her up Mount Chilead while trying to promote his book (Grognak inadvertently revealing she couldn’t read in the process). He TRIED to charge her $500 for the trip, but Grognak ended up using his own dice-rolling against him. So when she asked to go DOWN the mountain, he, uh, took the most direct route. XD There wasn’t much left of the Lucky Taxi by the time they hit the bottom. And even less when Grognak decided she wanted to go for a dip in the nearby river. XD

c. A trip to the Burger Shot fast food place, where Grognak summoned buddy Steve and ended up becoming a temporary employee at the place to help out. Things were going well until Grognak’s unstable stalker showed up – and Steven left to buy more burger ingredients, accidentally locking Grognak behind the counter. A plan was hatched to have the stalker pretend to hold Grognak at gunpoint, which – got a bit out of hand when the police showed up and tried to defuse the situation by giving the guy pictures of Grognak (she was very confused as to where they got those). Eventually Grognak escaped the hell behind the counter, let the police arrest the stalker, and ended up doing a news report on the whole situation. Basically everything remains total chaos in GTA V, thanks!

II. More TLC madness with a woman who eats rocks on My Strange Addiction! Yes, she LITERALLY EATS rocks. As in takes BITES out of them. I’m guessing she eats mostly softer rocks. . .not that I’m sure that knowledge would help Kevin, who spent most of this episode cringing just because he could barely stand the sounds of her chewing her rocks. Poor guy. . .he felt really bad for her, as well as absolutely baffled by her compulsion, and kept telling his viewers not to eat rocks. I just find it interesting that THIS is the one that almost breaks him – not “sexually attracted to balloons” guy, or “drinks air freshener” woman. Then again, it’s not like I can’t sympathize with him, looking at that lady chewing rocks and wincing with every bite. . .gah. *shudder*

D) And to wrap things up this evening, we had GrayStillPlays and another GTA V stunt course! This one seems to have been custom-made for him – a long uphill climb into space! Complete with gravity getting less and less the further you climb. Gray had to parkour through explosions, wind turbines, tubes both patriotic and psychedelic, and various confused pedestrians, all while losing traction and gaining a lack of physics. And what did he do it in? Nothing less than a FULL LIQUOR BAR! XD No, seriously, someone made a car by slapping oversized wheels on a liquor cooler and letting Florida Man drive it. It was delightful. Made even more so by Gray’s editor deciding to put in a few comments of his own during the long trek upward. XD

4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check! Two asks on Valice Multiverse (well, five that BECAME two after I combined three into the first one – they were just continuations of it), and I got the pictures for the next Newcrest Adventures update sorted! w000, a bit ahead of the game!

So I guess I can't complain about most of the day, honestly. Certainly not the ice cream. XD I guess we'll just see how everything goes over the weekend. Speaking of which, I WILL set up a to-do list for tomorrow, thank you --

1. Do the second draft of the gift fic for my tumblr friend's birthday on 7/22

2. Keep up on YouTube Subs and watch the latest Atop The Fourth Wall in my Watch Later

3. Play Sims 4 and start a new building project

4. Work on tumblr queues

5. OPTIONAL: Get in a workout

Workout being optional I just covered; I'm keeping the YouTube to Subs and AT4W because the latter is LOOOONG (it's a Patreon-sponsored review of Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice); and I'm starting a new building thing because I don't want to get TOO far ahead in my updates for Newcrest, and I don't want to do more of the Chill Save until I've done the wedding update. Trying to be reasonable here! At least it isn't a cleaning Saturday and thus I have a little more time for myself. . .

Okay, time to answer my DW comment, then see what's going on with the Friday Night Writing Thing. Night all!
