Happy Valentine's Day!

Though it's not quite a happy one over here -- my Mom's sick with something nasty, and I'm worried it's just a matter of time before we all get it. :(

Still, I've made it through today -- Victor and Alice had an Inkwell post, setting up a future visit by the Liddells to the bar. And I have not-quite-fic for you all. I don't know if any of you remember me doing the themes from the [livejournal.com profile] 1sentence community, but regardless, I've gotten two sets done: one for Doc/Clara, one for Victor/Alice. Since it's Valentine's, I figure I might as well show them to you. None of them are in any sort of chronological order, though you're welcome to guess what comes when, if you like. ;) It's all pretty obvious.

Doc/Clara:
Theme Set Alpha
1. Comfort – Being held in his arms made even the most dangerous situation seem bearable.

2. Kiss – Their first kiss was simply magical.

3. Soft – She likes how soft his hair feels when she runs it through her fingers.

4. Pain – He should have expected this – all his relationships ended in him getting hurt.

5. Potatoes – Doc was firm in his opinion that Clara had to make the best mashed potatoes he’d ever tasted.

6. Rain – The rainy nights are spent inside by the fire, with a copy of one of Jules Verne’s books and a cup of tea as they snuggle and read together.

7. Chocolate – She loved the color of his eyes – dark, liquid chocolate brown that it was all too easy to get lost in.

8. Happiness – He finally has the wife and family he always wanted but never thought he’d have.

9. Telephone – Clara doesn’t quite understand modern telephones, but Doc is only too happy to teach her everything.

10. Ears – One gift he can count on her liking is a new set of earrings.

11. Name – When she’d called him “Emmett,” he’d suddenly realized just how much he actually liked his first name.

12. Sensual – Running his hands all over Clara, memorizing the way she feels, is much more interesting than doing the same to one of his inventions.

13. Death – She knows she’ll probably be a widow at a relatively young age if she marries him; she’s willing to take the risk.

14. Sex – “What do you mean, this is your first time too?!” she’d gasped, causing him to turn bright red with embarrassment.

15. Touch – The first thing she noticed about him was his touch – firm and powerful and yet somehow gentle as he pulled her from the wagon.

16. Weakness – He loves her, he really does – but sometimes it was rather hard to resist the siren call of the lab.

17. Tears – She cried briefly in the blacksmith shop when she discovered that toy time machine, overwhelmed by guilt and shame.

18. Speed – There was little like kissing just as the train reached 88 miles per hour.

19. Wind – Clara isn’t sure if she likes the feeling of wind in her hair or not – on the one hand, it reminds her of those times she nearly died; on the other, it also reminds her of those times Emmett saved her life.

20. Freedom – She can’t wait for him to finish the new time machine – she wants to know the freedom of having the entire space-time continuum to explore.

21. Life – One of these days, she vows, she’ll save his life instead of him saving hers all the time.

22. Jealousy – She wonders what it says about her (and him) that she generally gets jealous of his tools rather than of any other women he might talk to.

23. Hands – Doc really does have very skilled hands, Clara is pleased to discover.

24. Taste – He can hardly get enough of the taste of her lips.

25. Devotion – Real devotion is when the man you love is willing to risk the space-time continuum itself to stay with you.

26. Forever – Promising to stay with someone “forever” takes on new meaning when you own a time machine.

27. Blood – The sight of her blood disturbs him for a good while, as it reminds him of what could have happened to her if he hadn’t been there.

28. Sickness – She frets over him when he gets sick, worried that illness might take away what she’s hoped to get for so long.

29. Melody – Doc wishes he had Marty’s talent for song writing sometimes – a girl like Clara deserved a symphony written in her honor.

30. Star – He could sit here and listen to her talk about the stars and constellations for hours.

31. Home – Home is never a set time period; home is wherever they can be together.

32. Confusion – She doesn’t get everything he says, but he makes sure the important parts – such as “I love you” – are very clear.

33. Fear – As he clings to the side of the train, listening to Clara’s dress rip, Doc wonders how the hell he ever came up with this stupid plan.

34. Lightning/Thunder – His love of thunderstorms confuses her, but looking at his face, lit up with a grin, she can’t help but share in his pleasure.

35. Bonds – Clara couldn’t help going back to Doc in the end – the bonds they’d formed were too strong, even after just a few days.

36. Market – Doc actually enjoys grocery shopping when he goes with Clara.

37. Technology – He’d always considered technology his only real love until he met her.

38. Gift – Clara had to be a gift of some sort from the heavens, Doc decided (never mind that, technically, they never should have met at all.)

39. Smile – The way her smile lights up her face makes his heart melt every time.

40. Innocence – Clara’s lack of knowledge about most everything in the future was something Doc found oddly endearing at times.

41. Completion – Until they came into each other’s lives, they hadn’t really noticed there had been anything missing.

42. Clouds – Clara hadn’t expected her complaint about a cloudy day ruining a picnic to inspire her husband to work on a new time machine – but after thirteen years of marriage, maybe she should have.

43. Sky – They’d spend hours together, staring up at the night sky, holding hands as she taught him about the stars.

44. Heaven – Just sitting out in the yard with Clara, watching Marty playfully wrestle Jules and Verne, was heaven to him.

45. Hell – He couldn’t stand the thought of leaving her behind, even thought it was the logical thing to do.

46. Sun – The day they got married, it was like he’d finally seen the sun after living in twilight.

47. Moon – Thanks to her teachings, he soon had the surface of the moon almost as well-memorized as she did.

48. Waves – Clara was a bit embarrassed to try on a modern bathing suit for the first time; Doc was a bit embarrassed by the way it affected him.

49. Hair – His hair was long for a man, but it suited him like no other hairstyle would – in her opinion, anyway.

50. Supernova – Even as the world exploded around him, even as he lost his own footing, all Doc could concentrate on was Clara dangling from the train, head just inches from the tracks. . . .

Incidentally, yes, the Clouds one does refer to the Ride's 8-passenger convertible DeLorean. ;)

Victor/Alice:
Theme Set Gamma
1. Ring – He doesn’t drop the ring at their wedding – he doesn’t think he could have forgiven himself if he had.

2. Hero – Alice tells him he’s a hero for putting everything, even his very sanity, on the line for her and Wonderland – Victor just thinks he’s like any other young man in love.

3. Memory – Having the memories of some other version of yourself, who had been in love with another version of your girlfriend, was really confusing at times.

4. Box – Moving into their new house in Wonderland after the wedding was an adventure all its own.

5. Run – Victor’s natural inclination was always to run away from danger – but when he saw Alice being threatened by the Red rooks, the last thing on his mind was running.

6. Hurricane – When Alice gets angry, it reminds Victor of a hurricane, descending down on its target with a roar and destroying everything in the general vicinity – and he really hopes he never gives her cause to turn that rage on him.

7. Wings – She pulls him into the jets of steam with her – and just like that, she’s given him the wings he’s always dreamed of.

8. Cold – Victor gets cold easily at night; Alice is only too happy to serve as a warm body to snuggle up against.

9. Red – His experiences with the Queen of Hearts made Victor all the more grateful for his relationship with Alice.

10. Drink – Victor was very glad to discover the “Drink Me” potion – it’s sometimes a strain on his neck, leaning down to kiss his beloved.

11. Midnight – Despite his distaste for the insomnia that plagues him, sometimes it’s actually very nice to sit in bed and just watch Alice sleep.

12. Temptation – He’s engaged to be married to the daughter of a lord and lady; why can’t he stop thinking about the niece of his father’s solicitor?

13. View – The view from the top floor of the castle would have been incredible – if Victor had had eyes for anything but Alice.

14. Music – The way he plays piano enchants and entrances her.

15. Silk – Alice thought that the silk nightgown she got from Victor for her birthday would get more actual wear, as opposed to always getting pulled off five seconds after they went to bed.

16. Cover – Alice also snuggles up to Victor to make sure he doesn’t steal all the covers from being chilly.

17. Promise – “Promise only what you’re prepared to deliver,” she tells him – but when it comes to her and her safety, Victor’s prepared to promise anything.

18. Dream – Alice holds Victor close after he suffers yet another nightmare from his “other self.”

19. Candle – The way he’ll double-check to make sure all the candles and lamps are really out and not ready to fall and cause disaster proves to her how much he really cares.

20. Talent – Alice is stunned when she looks at Victor’s drawings and realizes he’s the only other person she knows who can draw Wonderland accurately.

21. Silence – It was their silence that got them in trouble, Victor concluded – if only he or Alice had confessed their love earlier, they wouldn’t be in this mess.

22. Journey – Walking into Wonderland with Alice took Victor’s breath away.

23. Fire – She’s terrified of their house burning down, of losing her family all over again – Victor does her best to comfort her, but it’s never quite enough to still her fears.

24. Strength – Alice is seen as the strong one in their relationship, but she knows that, without Victor to help her, she would have collapsed any number of times.

25. Mask – With him, she feels like she can finally let the mask of being the savior of Wonderland, the girl hardened by life fall, and just be – Alice.

26. Ice – Using the Ice Wand to freeze the Vale of Tears for skating is probably not how it was meant to be used, but neither Alice nor Victor cares.

27. Fall – When she falls, he’s right there to pick her back up again, and vice-versa.

28. Forgotten – After years of life in Wonderland with Alice and the children, Victor’s practically forgotten about being a shy, lonely young man sure he’d end up in a dull, loveless match.

29. Dance – Normally, he considers himself extremely clumsy – but when he dances with Alice, Victor discovers he’s almost graceful.

30. Body – Alice presses a hand to Victor’s chest, counting his ribs, feeling his heart beating within it.

31. Sacred – She is their savior, their goddess – and she picked him, of all people, to be her sweetheart.

32. Farewells – Saying farewell to his parents and the real world was easier than he expected – perhaps because he knew what (or, rather, who) was waiting for him in Wonderland.

33. World – Wonderland is now their world, and no one and nothing is going to take it from them.

34. Formal – He’s far too formal, in Alice’s opinion – and she vows to find a way to make Victor relax and be happy.

35. Fever – Alice hates it when Victor gets sick – he looks fragile enough well.

36. Laugh – Alice loves that Victor’s so ticklish, simply because she loves to hear him laugh.

37. Lies – He tried to convince himself he didn’t love her, that the dreams he was having with her as his bride meant nothing – but he knew he was lying to himself.

38. Forever – He promises to stay with her forever – and she, despite her inherent distrust of that word, believes him.

39. Overwhelmed – He’s always felt a little overwhelmed by the world, but it’s all a lot easier to take these days, with Alice by his side.

40. Whisper – She likes to sit on his lap and whisper in his ear; he always shivers most deliciously when she does that.

41. Wait – Being forced to wait out in the hall, hearing Alice scream, was the one thing Victor strongly disliked about his children’s births.

42. Talk – He knows he loves her because he can talk to her without stuttering.

43. Search – Alice refused to back down before the reborn King of Hearts, because she knew Victor was still in there somewhere, and she wasn’t going to stop until she’d found him.

44. Hope – Being with Victor gives Alice hope that she’s not beyond having a chance at a normal life (as normal as life gets in Wonderland, anyway).

45. Eclipse – When he comes close to dying, it’s like the sunshine just fades out of her life.

46. Gravity – She tells him that she’s in love with him, has been for a while now, and it’s like there’s no limit to how high his heart can soar.

47. Highway – Victor isn’t afraid of getting lost while in Wonderland – he knows that, sooner or later, all paths will lead back to Alice.

48. Unknown – To Victor, Alice represents excitement, danger, the unknown – everything he’s been secretly craving.

49. Lock – Wonderland had always been her private little locked-off world; giving Victor the key, so to speak, to get in was a sign of how much she really cared for him.

50. Breathe – When he finally kisses her, she forgets for a moment how to breathe.

Enjoy! And I hope you all had a good day, regardless of the holiday.
