A Day Late
The movie trip has been pushed back a day -- apparently, tomorrow's supposed to be absolutely beautiful, and Mom doesn't want to waste it going up to Providence Place. Methinks she wants to visit the beach.
-D: Well, a day's delay won't hurt anybody.-
Nah, and it means I can sleep in tomorrow. Win-win.
Not much in the way of other news, so instead I'll post some Victor/Alice fic. I'm sure you've all been missing it. :p
27. Under The Moon – Everything You’d Ever
It was a beautiful night in the city. The full moon hung large in the sky, bathing everything in a slight bluish glow. Millions of stars glittered around it, free from obscuring clouds or smog. Even the streetlights had dimmed to show off their brilliance. The buildings had an unearthly beauty from up here, the grime and ugliness hidden by night’s forgiving blanket.
She was standing at the edge of the rooftop, resplendent in her usual blues and whites. The moon framed her form, making her glow. She was beautiful – better than Aphrodite herself. No man was worthy to approach her. He certainly knew he wasn’t.
But approach her he did, irresistibly drawn to her like the proverbial moth to the flame. She watched him carefully. For a moment, he thought she was going to punch him. That was the script for these sorts of encounters, after all – superhero meets supervillain, superhero beats up supervillain, everybody cheers. He was used to it – he wouldn’t hold it against her.
But instead, she smiled and offered him her hand. He took it gently, vaguely noticing he was wearing his old white costume again. All the better to match with her. From somewhere below them, music started playing.
And then – they were waltzing.
She was an accomplished dancer, he realized. Someone so fast and flexible would have to be. Her deep auburn hair streamed out behind her as they spun, just begging for him to run his fingers through it. Her emerald green eyes sparkled with joy and laughter. And her beautiful pink lips looked so soft. . . . He leaned in closer, wondering if he really dared to kiss her. . . .
Then he felt a sudden wetness on his chest – and looked down to see blood pouring from her abruptly-broken body –
Victor awoke with a jolt. For a moment, he couldn’t figure out where he was. Then his eyes adjusted again, and his surroundings resolved themselves back into his ramshackle little house. Whose roof was leaking again, he noted, touching the damp spot on his nightshirt.
He sighed and dragged himself out of bed, changing his shirt and moving to the couch. He stared at the empty fireplace, trying to sort out his confused thoughts. Had he really just been dreaming about Ali – Miss Wonderland? Wasn’t she his new nemesis, or something to that effect? Granted, their meetings had turned weirdly cordial as of late. And the few times he’d seen her out of costume, she’d been quite friendly and adventurous and sweet –
And that was hardly the point! He shouldn’t be dreaming of her! And why a dancing dream, of all things? He hadn’t had one of those since –
Since –
Since Emily and Victoria had –
Victor gripped the edge of the couch tightly, trying to fight off an attack of hyperventilation. No, he thought, suddenly terrified. No, no, I can’t fall in love with her. I simply can’t. She’ll – she’ll die they all die to love or be loved by me is a death sentence I don’t want her to die she’s wonderful not like certain other heroes the world needs her I need her –
He forced himself to get a hold on his raging emotions. He was worrying over nothing. Miss Wonderland was a superhero, brave and bold and lawful. And he – he was a supervillain. The famous Dr. Horrible, the man who’d – who’d coldly murdered Captain Hammer’s girlfriend and his own henchwoman. She’d never want him in the first place.
For some reason, that thought hurt just as much as his previous ones. Frustrated with himself, Victor flopped down and tried to go back to sleep.
It took him a very long time.
Hi there, Dr. Victor Horrible! Welcome to the world of fiction!
-TTV: I should have never dressed up as him for Halloween.-
Hon, I was having these thoughts long before you decided on that. It was inevitable I'd eventually write some down.
Anyway! This mini-universe has been on my mind (I watched "Commentary! The Musical" last week), so I figured I'd post this. I've talked about my idea for a Corpse Bride/Dr. Horrible crossover before, but here's a brief refresher course:
-->Victor's Dr. Horrible, Emily's Penny, Barkis is Captain Hammer, and Victoria is Moist
-->In addition to Victor's troubles with Emily, Victoria is harboring a secret crush on him
-->Over the course of the story, Victor finds himself growing closer to Emily, but developing an attraction for Victoria
-->Everything ends REALLY badly, as both Victoria and Emily are killed by the exploding death ray (Victoria gets hit trying to push Emily out of the way)
-->Victor basically shuts down inside, becoming a living zombie
This takes place during the sequel idea I had, which brought Alice into the mix. Here she's a superhero -- Miss Wonderland. She's got a couple of her traditional toys (cards, croquet mallet, vorpal blade), and Hatter works as her tech guy. She interrupts one of Dr. Horrible's heists, and they become nemeses.
That is, until another fight, where Victor has the opportunity to kill her -- but can't do it. In fact, he nearly has a full-on panic attack. Shortly after this, they encounter each other in their civilian guises at the Coin Wash equivalent -- and to their shock, discover they're starting to have feelings for each other. This is Victor's take on the situation. As you can see, he's -- kind of messed up.
-J: You really need to put a few of your characters in therapy.-
Hey, the last time I did that, the psychiatrist fell for her patient.
-D: Not my fault.-
I know. But yeah, this turned out a rather depressing little fic. Though I do like the rooftop waltz idea I came up with. It took me a little bit to come up with the idea for this prompt, as "Under the Moon" sounds like it should be a Victor/EMILY fic, not a Victor/Alice. I'm pretty happy with this, though. I really did want to write something for Victor Horrible at some point. (He actually gets two fics here in the 30 Dances -- don't worry, the other one's happier.)
-TD: I have to ask -- steampunk or modern?-
Oh, definitely steampunk. Whenever I can, I go steampunk.
As for the title, it's the title of the ending song in Dr. Horrible, slightly changed. The original title is "Everything You Ever" -- I changed it to "you'd" since that sounded more appropriate for the content matter (everything you WOULD ever).
All right, Alice and John are talking over in his journal -- better go answer that.
