12 Days of Christmas: Day Two

Running behind, running behind. . .but hey, I'm not letting the day pass without fic. Here's some "Secundus" Christmas for you:

“And – there!”
Doc held up his handiwork for the boys to admire. “What do you think?”
“It looks great, Doc,” Marty said, giving his friend a thumbs up.
“It’s just perfect for the shop,” Victor agreed with a grin.
“Thanks – I thought so,” Doc nodded, looking at the clockwork wreath. Threaded through the conglomeration of wheels, gears, and cogs were the words “Merry Christmas,” written in nails and screws. “And frankly, metal is easier to get than greenery. Cheaper, too.” He went to hang it on the door, the two young men following. “I suppose I could paint it green, all things considered. . . .”
“No, it’s perfect the way it is,” Victor told him, watching as he positioned it. “Just. . .perfect.”
Marty glanced up at him, frowning a little. “You sound a little sad. What’s up?”
“. . .Well, I’m j-just remembering Christmas in Burtonsville. The way my mother would cover our house, inside and out, with expensive decorations.” He looked at the placed wreath. “And this outshines them all – b-because it was made with real attention. Real – love.”
There was silence for a moment. Then, suddenly, Victor found himself wrapped in hugs by both Doc and Marty. “Yeah,” Marty agreed quietly.
“We’ll always be here for you, Victor,” Doc said. “Don’t ever forget that.”
Victor smiled and hugged back. “I won’t. I promise.”

-J: Awwww. . .can you stop making Victor's childhood kind of horrible?-
-TTV: *nodnodNOD*-
I'm sorry, I can't help it! Anyway, this one was inspired by two bits of RP -- on LiveJournal, Butterfly Boy posting a picture of some steampunk ornaments to show how he's decorating for Christmas; and on tumblr, Forgotten Vows and Alice discussing decorating for Christmas. I knew I wanted to do something involving the BTTF characters, but I wasn't sure what. Once I remembered those steampunk ornaments, though, the idea of a clockwork wreath hit me. And if you're doing a clockwork wreath, you HAVE to put it in Secundus. :p
-TD: Did you mean for it to get slightly depressing at the end?-
Actually, no -- I'm writing these on the fly, meaning that they stories kind of go on their own. I guess I had Forgotten Vows's comments about Nell overdecorating for Christmas on the mind, which prompted the fluff at the end. Really, poor Victor needs all the hugs in any universe when it comes to his childhood.
-TTV: *nods slowly* I also notice he says "in Burtonsville."-
Yeah, well, he'd be the first to admit Secundus is more of a home then that place ever was.
-TTV: Yes, true enough. *smile* I'm lucky -- we're all lucky -- to have such caring friends.-
-HD: *throws an arm around him and holds up a cup of tea* And you're never to be rid of us! I'll drink to that!-
*laughs* Exactly. You're part of the family, Victor, and nothing will ever change that.

Anyway, I got a couple of things to wrap up, and then it's off to bed. Two more days of regular class, one final, and then freedom! And Christmas. And my birthday. But mostly freedom!
