Also, Because We Had The Food In Question Tonight

Have a 25 Foods:

11. Watermelon
“Children! Don’t wander too far!”
“Hi daisies! How are you?” There was a pause. “Daisies?”
“They don’t talk here, Lorry.”
“That’s silly.”
“But it does mean we can pick them.”
“Mummy, come look at these mushrooms! They form a ring!”
“Do they?” Alice got up and investigated. Sure enough, there was a little circle of yellow-brown mushrooms around her son. “Well, look at that. I didn’t expect to see a fairy ring here.”
Chester got down on his hands and knees, searching the dirt around them. “No caterpillars, though,” he reported.
“It is September – I think all the caterpillars of this world have become butterflies,” Alice said.
“Why hasn’t Caterpillar back home become a butterfly?” Lucy asked as she and Lorina joined them, hands full of flowers.
“He claims he wouldn’t be as respected as a butterfly,” Alice said, rolling her eyes. “I think it has more to do with the fact he probably wouldn’t be able to smoke that horrid hookah of his.”
“Probably,” Victor said, coming up behind them. “I think it’s a bit of a shame myself. I’d like to see what sort of butterfly he is.”
Alice’s answer was derailed by the sight of the melon slice in Victor’s hand. “You know, my cousin left that watermelon for all of us,” she gently teased him.
“Is Daddy eating all the food again?” Lucy said, putting her hands on her hips as she stared up at her father.
“Not all of it!” Victor said, before taking another bite of watermelon and smirking. “Just all of this.”
“I want some!” Lorina protested, shaking a daisy at Victor. “Don’t eat it all!”
“I’m just kidding. There’s still plenty over there,” Victor said, pointing back toward the blanket.
Chester grabbed Lucy’s arm. “Come on – we’d better get to the blanket before it all disappears,” he said. Lucy and Lorina both nodded, and the three hurried back to their spots, trailing flowers behind them.
Victor watched them scurry away and sighed. “I don’t get any respect,” he complained good-naturedly.
Alice chuckled and patted his arm. “We respect you plenty. You and your stomach.”
Victor blushed. “I didn’t mean to start gorging myself on the watermelon. It just tastes so good!”
“I think I’ll have to take your word on that,” Alice commented. “Between you and the children, I don’t see how I’m going to get a taste.”
Victor grinned mischievously before taking another bite of his slice. “Perhaps this will suffice,” he said, pulling her close and kissing her.
Alice kissed back eagerly, wrapping her arms around Victor’s neck. “Mmm. . .that is good,” she whispered as they separated. “In fact – I think I need a bit more. . . .”
Over on the blanket, Chester shook his head as Victor and Alice continued kissing. “Parents. . . . Lucy, see if you can find the biscuits while they’re distracted.”

-D: Another story that's so clearly written before "Alice: Madness Returns."-
*snickers* Well, how was I supposed to know that Caterpillar actually WOULD become a butterfly? Anyway, this is a SW-verse short, that's set after my old story "Train Troubles" (need to put that back up somewhere at some point; short sum-up is that Victor, Alice, and family are visiting a cousin of Alice's in the American West, and they happen to be on the same train Doc and Marty hijack in Part III). The Van Dorts finally make it to their destination of Alice's cousin's house, you see -- here they're having a family picnic. In which Victor has become enamored of watermelon.
-M: Hey, can't blame the guy. Watermelon's good.-
Indeed. It's really just some family-related fluff -- the Van Dorts having a nice day out, and Victor getting teased for his large appetite. And kissing that makes the kids go "yuck!" They're looking for cookies at the end, btw -- "biscuits" is a British term for them.
-TTV: *smile* It's nice to see some fluff. And I have to admit, even I'm curious as to what kind of butterfly Caterpillar is.-
The scaryfaceus onwingis kind.
-TTV: Ah, of course.-

Anyway, that just leaves one 25 Foods and one Drabbles88 to finish off those tables.
-RPD: And just in time for the 100 Drabbles of Summer at Charloft. Are you doing that this year?-
I dunno. I'm gonna have to think about it more -- I enjoy doing drabbles, but I want to get some other stuff done too. . . Mainly Forgotten Vow's backstory, finishing up the ball chapter of "The Tale," and more on "There's Always Tomorrow" (remember that?). So we'll see.
As for now, I should catch up on the "Not Always" sites -- laters!
