25 Days of Multiverse #23
Well, today was kind of a wash -- but then again, I DO have a cold. Fortunately it seems to be clearing up relatively rapidly -- I didn't have nearly the nasal issues today that I had yesterday. Developing a cough, though, which is annoying. And it took me way too long to start up today, to the point where I spent a good portion of the day lying down and doing nothing much of anything.
On the other hand, I did manage to get the vacuuming done, and get my last Christmas fic written, so that's something. I also watched a movie with Mom and Dad -- another Edgar Wright/Simon Pegg/Nick Frost venture (they're the people behind one of my favorite movies, Hot Fuzz). This one is called The World's End, and it's -- well, I'll put it behind a cut:
It's about this man-child whose high point in life was a failed pub crawl along the "Golden Mile" in his hometown -- 12 pints in 12 pubs, starting at The First Post and ending at The World's End. He and his friends attempted it as teenagers, and only three out of the five managed to make it to the ninth in line, before everyone called it quits. Deciding he should go and give the Mile another run, he rounds up his much more successful friends and talks them into doing the crawl. For the first half-hour or so, it looks to be a understated British dramedy about growing up and figuring out how to let go of the past.
And then Gary, the main character, gets into a fight with a teenager in the men's in one of the pubs -- and the kid turns out to be a robot.
And suddenly it's a sci-fi movie about order versus chaos and how far are you willing to go to have a "good" society with alien robots infiltrating Earth to "civilize" us.
Yeaaaah. Not the laughfest the box declared it as. I wouldn't say it was a BAD movie -- I enjoyed watching it enough -- it's just -- weird. I think part of the problem is the sudden change in genre -- I just wasn't prepared for it. It's interesting enough, though, and if you like Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, you should find something enjoyable in it.
All right, now to give you the day's drabble:
Day Twenty-Three:
“So – ah – it’s December, right? That means it’s Christmas time, right? T-the scientists back in the old days had parties for something called that around this time of year. Putting up a dead tree and hanging shiny things on it. . .t-that’s normal, right? Up here on the surface?”
Alice nodded, biting back giggles. Victor brightened. “Great! So we should get one! And you should write a letter to Santa. A long one. Since you deserve all the presents. And–”
“Victor.” The sound of her voice shocked him into silence. She smiled and took his hand. “I already got what I wanted.”
-TTV: . . .Bit of a weird choice.-
Yes, I know. This is the "American McGee's Corpse Portal" Verse -- you previously saw it in the Sins/Virtues table as Sloth and Fortitude. This is a post-game fic, where Victor and Alice have made it to the surface and are spending their first Christmas together. It's just a bit of silly, getting Victor to be a silly rambler fluff. Why this verse, though?
Well, largely because a)I wasn't sure what to put here and b)last year I received Portal 2 as a Christmas present -- so why not? Besides, it's fun to write rambly Victor-as-Wheatley sometimes. As well as sort of indulge in two pairings I like in one (yes, I'm a fan of Chelley). So yeah, just take it as a bit of goofy Christmas sweetness from a one-off universe I'm just fond of.
All right -- and with that, it's time to take on Twitter and tumblr! *cues up the focusing music*
