crossover_chick: Doc snoozing on his couch (BTTF: exhausted)

Coworker has hurt herself, and our main database program is buggy out the wazoo -- what else is new? Just keep reminding myself, only one more day to get through, then I get a day off. Could use it, honestly.

In the interest of not talking about depressing shit all the time, some positives:

-->Finished off Chapter 7 of "Remembering You!" So I'm on track to post that one this Thursday. Chapter 8 almost certainly will break the streak though, as I have a lot more to rewrite on that one (plus I need a quick break to do Christmas fics). . .but I plan to make use of the time and make sure I've really covered everything I want to cover.

-->Finished Terry Pratchett's Truckers the other day! It's a good book (but what else am I gonna say about Pratchett?), though it's a little weird. I can't even tell you what it reminds me of without that being a potential spoiler, so under a cut it goes:

All right, so the plot of the book is a country nome (Terry's spelling) and his group hitch a ride on a lorry (British for truck) and end up in a department store, where there's a thriving community of nomes with everything they could ever need. However, it's discovered that the store is going to be demolished, and our main character, Masklin, proposes the idea of stealing a lorry to escape and find a new home. Cute little fantasy story, right?

Actually. . .in the very first chapter, we're introduced to a black cube the old folks Masklin takes care of tote around, called The Thing. You'd think this is some bit of human debris that will be humorously revealed later. . .

But in Chapter 2, it starts talking. Revealing itself to be a spaceship computer. The nomes are in fact the descendants of a crashed party of aliens. Yeah.

What this reminds me of is the twist in The World's End, that Pegg-Frost movie that disguises itself as a dramedy about how people grow and change from high school to adulthood -- until Pegg's character punches a dude and it's revealed most of the residents are now robots. I was completely thrown for a loop -- especially since I swear he wrote a short story with this theme before, and IT was pure fantasy. *checks her copy of A Blink Of The Screen* Yup -- it's gnomes there, and the protagonist is Rincemangle, but it's the same sort of deal. Weeeeird. But good. And I am delighted to learn it is in fact a trilogy! :D I know what I'm spending any future Barnes & Noble coupons and gift cards on. . .

And now I have to wrap up all my stuff and go to bed. One more day! And then a day after that, and the weekend! All for it. Night!
