crossover_chick: gif with Doc and Marty trying to get out of being written into twisted AUs (Default)
[personal profile] crossover_chick
AKA the guy who novelized both Spider-Mans. :D He's cool just because he slips so many references to other Marvel characters into his work. (I haven't seen this with X-Men, except in the end-scenes of X-2, where some of the X-Men who weren't part of the movie team were seen: Beast, Gambit, etc.) And other in-jokes besides. Here's a very unofficial list:
Spider-Man
-Captain America: The beginning of the novel is different from the movie -- there's a scene where young Peter is just moving in with Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Peter reads "Captain America" and thinks that the plane crash that killed his parents was caused by a bad guy like the Red Skull.
-Daredevil: Or, more accurately, Daredevil's father, "Battling Jack" Murdock. Jack faces off with "Bone Saw" McGraw before Peter does, then later is rescued from a being a hostage at a robbery by Peter, calling his son Matt with the incredible news.
-The Incredible Hulk: Two cops, coming across a set of webbed-up villians at a jewelery break-in, comment about this being no weirder than that "incredible Hulk" who "trashed those soliders in New Mexico." Dr. Bruce Banner is also mentioned as wanting to see Jonah in a very funny bit about alliteration.
-The Fantastic Four: Dr. Reed Richards, aka "Mr. Fantastic," is the other scientist waiting to see Jonah in the alliteration bit.
-Other Spidey Characters: Dr. Curt Conners stars in this one as one of Peter's former bosses (Peter's his intern), and after firing Peter for being late yet again, Peter imagines him getting bitten by the lizard he's carrying and turning into a giant humanoid lizard.
When Peter first joins up with the Daily Bugle, he hears Jonah screaming bloody murder at another photographer -- that photographer turns out to be Eddie Brock, who talks to Peter in a voice "filled with pure venom." :p
I just noticed this one, and I'm not entirely sure it counts, but the nerdy girl who doesn't want to sit next to Peter is Liz Allen, Harry Osborn's wife in the comics.
-Other Actor Roles: Mary Jane hooks up with Harry after coming to their apartment to see Peter, according to the book. She sees him reading "Interview with the Vampire," and comments that she saw the movie and the little kid creeped her out. Guess who played Claudia. :p
Spider-Man 2
-We'll start with a guy I'm not sure about. The book starts with an incredible scene where Octavius is nearly kidnapped by a merc in a robot, wanting to know about his "arms" (he thinks they're more traditional weapons, I believe). Spidey stops him and discovers the man is Jack Albright, going by Jack All. Is he a real Marvel Villian, or did they make him up for the book?
-The Avengers: Henry Pym is the one who asks Otto about his "smart arms" in the book -- later, he is seen to disappear from sight as the reactor goes nuts, and reappear to check on Otto and Rosie (confounding Spider-Man, who was sure he was the only one there).
-The Sub-Mariner: An amnesiac Namor is the one to deliver the Spider-Man costume to the Bugle (incidentally, he's also the "mugging victim" Peter sees but walks away from in the novel).
-Other Spidey Characters: Obviously Curt Conners and John Jameson make appearances again -- Curt is now Peter's teacher and a friend of Otto's, while John is MJ's fiance. Otto warns Curt about experimenting on himself to help regrow his arm, while an annoyed Peter, upon seeing John, imagines him as a super-villian: "Maybe at moonrise he turns into a wolf."

That's all I can think of.
-D: Impressive list.-
Well, I only noticed half of them after getting my Marvel Encyclopedia.
-MDC: Now will you write Spidey?-
*sigh*

And Happy New Year's Eve to everybody! *lets MiniDamosCrawler blow a noisemaker*
