I solved a story dilemma!
Jul. 28th, 2004 02:41 pmMy fellow writers will appreciate this, at least. I hate having a basic idea for a story (like, "Marty is mistaken for Marty Jr. and is accidentally taken to the future") but no definite PLOT -- the reason for it all. Unfortunately, since I'm going on a rewriting frenzy with my NonTrilogy stuff ("Double Double" and "Dark Half" on FF.net), I'm encountering quite a bit of that. A lot of the stuff I wrote in the past was -- and this is kind -- shit. Most of you have heard me complain about version one of "Dark Half," then called "Evil Twin." Trust me, I wrote a lot of stuff in the "Evil Twin" vein, aka the "Marty and Doc should be smarter than that" vein. Now that I'm older and have more experience (mostly from the VDCs) I have to fix plots from the stories I'm keeping. And that's not a lot.
-D: What are you keeping?-
I wrote around 109 stories. I'm keeping about 22.
-D: O.O That's all from my stuff? The NonTrilogy section?-
Y -- actually, no, not quite. I sorted out some of it into the PreTime/1955 section. That's all out of strictly NonTrilogy.
-VD: *eyebrow raised* You haven't thought about scrapping one Vampire Doc Chronicle.-
I don't write your series the same way, VampDoc. All of my VDCs have been planned out. I have detailed notes/timelines on how those stories go. With my old NonTrilogy, I kinda wrote whatever came into my head at the time. Near the end I got a little crossover-crazy.
So, I did manage to solve a story dilemma. I had two seperate ideas (both sequels to the two current NonTrilogy stories, no less!) that I had no idea how to make into proper plots. Then, while I was doing research for "Double Double" -- which I may be renaming "Reality Check" -- I came across this fact -- Chris Lloyd has a rather large family, and his older brother Sam and nephew Sam Jr. are also in the film business. (I think Sam Jr. may be (or have been) on "Scrubs.") Hmm. Maybe I could involve them in some way in "Double Trouble." I also wanted to do a story where Jack finally dies. Just like that, it comes to me.
Yes, Double Trouble and the Jack sequel are now one story. I get the feeling I could have some fun with that. Now all I need is for some perfect titles to some of my OTHER stuff to pop up. . . .

COMBINE THEM.
