Random Fics Are Random

Yeah, something completely out of the blue. The words were just flowing out of me, so I decided I really ought to take advantage of the inspiration. God knows I haven't been getting enough of it lately.
-MF: That's true enough. What fandom?-
"Corpse Bride." Fic about Victor's birth, so to speak. I got to thinking about things after writing my page today in "Love Will Find A Way."
-TTV: *looking a bit worried* What sort of things?-
Basically, why you and Victoria are only children. I'm pretty sure larger families were more or less the norm back then. Why only singles for the Van Dorts and the Everglots?
-TTV: *shrug*-
-D: I take it you came up with some reasons, at least for yourself?-
That's what I do when I get like this. I'd already decided that Emily was was only child because her mother died shortly after having her, and her dad never remarried. I also made Alice an only child, mostly because I wasn't sure how to fit the real Alice's mess of siblings into the game canon. (Really, that opening really does portray her as not having any siblings) In the AMA world, Alice's mom had a REALLY hard time getting pregnant -- Alice was the only baby to be actually born. The rest just -- never materialized.
-J2: Awww. . . .-
Yeah, I know. Anyway, I decided that Nell had a similar problem, and Victor was pretty much their last shot at having a kid. Maudeline, on the other hand, had such a rough pregnancy and delivery that she was actually incapable of having children after Victoria was born. And thus, the mysteries are explained.
-OD: And this all inspired you to do a fic about Victor's birth?-
About Nell thinking about how long it took them to get to this point, really. It's kind of a sad story, really, given that it took them ten years to have Victor.
-M: *surprised* Ten years? Really?-
Yeah. Like I said, Nell had a tough time getting and staying pregnant. I also wanted to explore Nell's attitude a bit more -- sometimes I get the feeling I'm demonizing her a bit much in my fanfic. I admit I don't like her (I don't really like ANY of the parents in the movie), but I don't think she's a monster. Just -- very self-absorbed and a little too sure she knows how the world ought to be.
-TTV: *nodnod* That sounds like Mother, all right.-
-TD: *curious* Jeez, what did you write about today to inspire all this?-
Victor talking about how he thinks his parents don't really like him. It was -- kind of depressing.
-TTV: *fidgets* Well. . . .-
-HD: You're a perfectly likable young man and your parents are crazy for not noticing.-
*chuckle* Yeah, what he said.
Anyway, I gotta get to bed soon, so I'm going to cut this weird little ramble short. I'll probably post the fic sooner or later so you can all read it, either here or devART. Just want to get it out of "first draft stage" first.
-RPD: How about some tagging?-
I have some ideas in mind, including a Victor question for the Nexus. I'll get to it tomorrow, I've got a bit more free time then.
