Cool-Down Thursday
Jun. 16th, 2016 10:57 pmNo pictures of my adventures in Hershey yet, I'm afraid -- the majority are on Dad's phone, so it's going to take a moment to transfer them over to me (since Dad's phone is a completely different brand from the Apple Mom and I have). On the plus side, this might mean that I can show you both the Hershey pics and any we might take on tomorrow's Mini-Golf Tour Of Cape Cod at the same time. We'll see!
Not much to say about today, honestly -- this is basically my "rest day" of the week. Tomorrow we're on the road again for a day trip, then Saturday of course I have my usual cleaning plus getting Dad's Father's Day gift. And Sunday is Father's Day, so yeah. But today I had no obligations beyond getting caught up with my DW reading page and my tumblr dashboard, both of which have been accomplished. (Helps that I'm taking this week off from actually POSTING anything on tumblr. Trust me, I needed the break.) Highlights of the day were:
-->Watching Linkara start on the Graduation Day crossover between Teen Titans and Young Justice. His loathing for the story is palpable, and issue one already makes it clear why. Whiny characters, ugly artwork, a stupid premise -- and it apparently only gets WORSE from here. At least we're getting good-quality Linkara rage over it.
-->Watching the Nostalgia Critic take on the Jem movie. Which was only in theaters for two weeks -- and having seen the review, I can see why! It basically has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CARTOON. What kind of Jem movie has her disguise herself with MAKE-UP?! *facepalm* Plus apparently the creators badly edited fan clips into the movie to make them look like they were praising the movie, and uuuugh. Like NC said, Bay's Transfomers is no masterpiece, but at least it had the titular characters!
-->Watched Yahtzee weigh up Battleborn and Overwatch despite his previously-stated desire to leave them very much alone (as he's not a multiplayer kind of guy). His opinion is that Battleborn has better characters, but relies too much on unlocking and isn't as much fun, while Overwatch has more to recommend it but is way too expensive for being a pure multiplayer experience. Having played neither of these games (as I'm like him and don't like those kinds of games), I simply giggle at the jokes and the funny visuals.
-->Got in a nice walk, as the weather remains lovely -- fingers crossed the goodness holds for tomorrow!
-->Wrote some more on Chapter 3 of "In The Land of the Dead" -- it's amazing how much has changed while keeping the same ideas. I am a world-class gutter when it comes to this fic. It needed it, though, and I think everyone will be much happier with the end product -- much like "Losing You." I am going to make this damn verse SHINE.
-->Read through the long-abandoned webcomic "MAD About U," about a mad scientist college and the adventures of one Galileo Von Frankenstien (that's how the comic spells it). Pros include an amusing premise; some interesting characters and basic plotlines; an intriguing mystery about Galileo's older brother (expelled from the University); and Galileo basically looking just like a crazier-haired Citizen Brown from Telltale's BTTF game. (Seriously, based on an early bit of promo artwork for the guy, someone in the art department was a fan.) Cons include a LOT of spelling mistakes (which is particularly inappropriate for a strip about mad geniuses, I feel -- as you'll notice, the main character's last name isn't even spelled right!); artwork that can be hard on the eyes (including what I feel was a poor choice in making 3-D printed characters for one storyline); interesting characters not being used to their full potential; weak endings; repeated strips and lots of filler, and of course the eventual abandonment in the middle of an arc. Basically, it's okay, but nothing that memorable. The archive's small enough that you could read it all in an hour, so if you're so inclined. . .
Okay, time to wrap things up and prepare for sleeps -- gotta get up at a decent hour so we can hit the road and avoid too much weekend traffic. Night all!
