Happy Flux Capacitor Day!
Nov. 5th, 2016 10:04 pmAnniversary of the greatest invention the world has ever seen -- well, in one reality, anyway. Amazing what falling off a toilet and hitting your head can do. . . Paradoxically, it's also the anniversary of one of the worst events in the Alice canon: the fire that killed the other three members of the Liddell family. Which I then switched back to triumphant in my fanfic and made the day Alice also confronted and killed Dr. Bumby for his crimes and the birthday of her and Victor's oldest child. Though, admittedly, that last happened when November 5th was just a BTTF in-joke and not an actual important date in the Alice series. . .
Today, however, has been more about the horror than anything. Let me take you through it:
-->Spent most of the morning and a bit of the afternoon writing more on Chapter 4 of "Remembering You," reworking Victor remeeting Victoria, Christopher, and Dr. Wilson. Cutting out a lot of unnecessary wordage and redid another of Victor's Thirteeny moments to be a bit creepier. . .also thinking where I'm going to split this first version of the chapter because otherwise it's going to be a beast. Slowly but surely it's coming together.
-->Around 2 was my driving lesson -- straight from the house and around some of the bumpiest roads in the state, I swear. I did pretty well, by my dad's estimate, though I still need to work on keeping up my speed -- and on keeping a safe enough distance from pedestrians. I didn't hit anybody, but I did crowd a bit because of my worry over crossing the line and having another car hit me. . .working on it. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither shall my driving skills be. . .
-->After that and finishing off my writing for the day was Vampire: The Masquerade -- Bloodlines and finishing off Grout's Mansion. And WHOOO-BOY, I had the pleasure of entering a part of the game I don't think I've seen in LPs before! At least, I'm pretty sure Helloween didn't go that way in the mansion as his Tremere either. . . At any rate, in Grout's mansion, once you get into the "laboratory" section, you come across a locked door on the opposite side of the cells. If you have enough lockpicking skill (or can fake it with a Blood Buff), you can get inside and find some ammo, another door, and a note stating there's a maze ahead where Grout could observe his patients' reactions to unusual situations. I hesitated briefly, but then figured "what the hey" and went in.
It was GLORIOUS. It starts off with a relatively ordinary room, but then the scenery TWISTS and you're walking through rooms on their sides and a corridor that's upside-down -- it's very Alice-y. The route I took led me to another part of the mansion that was locked off. I found my way inside via braving a sunlit switch with Fortitude (btw, this game explicitly always takes place at night, so where the sunlight was coming from I have no idea), and it's FULL OF MANNEQUINS, set up like they're living in a little house. And then you get up to the top room and find two mannequins in a bed (plus a morphine bottle) and suddenly you hear creepy whispers and when you go back THE OTHER MANNEQUINS HAVE CHANGED POSITION AND ARE NOW FACING YOU AND SALUTING YOU. And whereas before you could throw them around at your leisure, now you can't move them at all. And then the door's freaking LOCKED until you answer a ringing phone and hear more creepiness. Which is followed by another upside-down room with a Norman Bates-style voice on the phone this time -- and keep in mind, my Harry is a Gangrel. You're not supposed to get this shit with them! I eventually looped back into the main house (and ended up backtracking along the normal path to make sure I'd gotten all the recordings), completed the quest, and escaped the burning mansion (after dying once thanks to going the wrong way), and parked Harry back in his haven after biting Heather so he could recover. I just -- wow. That was genuinely unsettling and I love it. :D
-->And of course, after checking TV Tropes to see if this bit of incredible horror was mentioned (it was NOT, DISGRACE), it was time for Helloween plays Silent Hill! Which I'm not finding particularly disturbing at the moment, though it is interesting. The nurses at the hospital are definitely creepy, and there's still plenty of cool moments and imagery -- I just don't think it's all that spooky yet. Music's awesome, though. Maybe it would be different if I was playing it personally, but -- I dunno. Still gonna keep up with it, of course, as it's still fun to watch and it's nice to hear Helloween wax nostalgic about when he first played this as a kid with his friend Nick (they kept passing the controller to each other in terror).
-->And that led to me looking up some horror games on TV Tropes -- nothing too bad, or at least not by my standards. Kept far away from the pages that I knew would scare the shit out of me, and cleansed the palette afterward with a look at the BTTF page. Someone needs to update the comics page with the new arc.
And now I have tumblr to catch up on and RPing to do -- so yeah, night all! Remember, if you fall off a toilet you're required to come up with a life-changing invention!
