Bombed By The Cyclone
Mar. 2nd, 2018 11:26 pmYeah, another one of those hit us today -- and it turned out to be bad enough to get me an early dismissal from work! When I went in this morning, it was just rainy and kinda windy -- Mom and Dad were even able to get a guy to come out and fix the garage door (needed a new spring, it turns out). But as the day got on, it got worse and worse, and my boss told us around lunchtime that we could leave whenever we felt we needed to. Two of my coworkers left early because of property damage issues from the increasing wind and rain, and my other coworker and I jumped ship once the trees outside the office began swaying super-dangerously. Seriously, I thought for sure one might come down either just outside or even ON the building. Mom and Dad came and got me, and I was home a little after two. Been holed up at home ever since. Fortunately we've managed to keep our power -- the lights flickered occasionally, but stayed on. This is pretty amazing when you consider at least 126,000 people in the state had lost it by the time of the five o'clock news. Even more amazing when you consider that JUST UP THE STREET the lights are out. Talk about lucky, huh? Been keeping my computer and iPad batteries charged just in case, though.
I didn't do anything particularly exciting with my afternoon off -- I of course wrote, finishing up another chapter in "Fixing You" (some wrap-up conversation post-Ruined Barkis). Mainly what I did was catch up on YouTube videos:
-->A "Fun With Shorts" about not taking medicine from the medicine cabinet if you're a kid -- which doesn't sound weird until I tell you that it was also a short, poorly animated cartoon with musical numbers and racist imagery
-->Another Sim Supply building challenge -- build a home with the time set to "night" and without putting in a single light. James was naturally frustrated but came out with a pretty cool-looking tiny build :)
-->And the latest Sim Supply pack-based LP, "Jungle Adventures!" Starring Katrina Bigwallet from his "Wags to Riches" LP -- he had her drop the pets off with her parents so she can go adventuring in the jungle and collect all the new artifacts and treasures from the new vacation world. Ultimate goal is to build a museum -- he's even using her great-great-grandmother's old art gallery to house it :) It's already cool, and makes me REALLY want the new pack. . .
So yeah. I also put up another old Winter Bingo prompt, blue, on AO3, and then got my VictorLuvsAlice queue done through Tuesday! (Being worried the power is going to go out makes you really productive sometimes.) And I answered all the stuff in my inbox at the time. Currently working on my ValiceMultiverse queue, as I do.
Plans for tomorrow: It's tax season, so I gotta at least get started on mine. Hopefully I can just do them in a big chunk on Saturday and then have Sunday free again for videos and gaming, but we'll see. Gonna be more complicated this year because of the house. . . And I am going to try to overcome my natural miserly tendencies and buy some things I've been meaning to/want to buy. Which probably will include the Jungle Adventures game pack. I'm pretty sure the MC Command Center guy said his mod was good to go with that. . .
A problem for tomorrow, however. Right now, it's time to finish up the Valice Multiverse queue. Night all! Keep your fingers crossed we don't lose power overnight!
