It's Finally Friday
Aug. 9th, 2019 11:17 pmAaaand -- it was largely chill! :D There was some stuff with traffic (including some jerk this morning who got behind me while I was on the highway, started honking because I was going too slow for him -- five miles over the speed limit, by the way -- finally passed me, then got in front of me and hit his brakes just to be an asshole. Fortunately I had more than enough time to slow down without hitting him. And then he realized his exit had come up and cut across the other lane to it, nearly colliding with another car. Ugh.), but work itself was quiet. Did the GL, made some updates for people, cleared up some maintenance. . .nothing special. Which hey, I will happily take. :) And now I'm out for three days, yay~
Afternoon has been pretty solid too:
-->Retrieved and folded laundry for Mom, then vacuumed my rug (plus some popcorn that had fallen on the floor in the living room) -- at least I'm set there for the week!
-->Watched Call Me Kevin evaluating Sims memes (he found some amusing stuff too -- and his own wiki page while Googling (I'm not sure WHICH wiki, mind), which was also pretty hilarious XD) and Rabbid Luigi talking about outdated video game mechanics he doesn't care for (like cover shooting, or sprint buttons (mainly in the context of vast overworlds that don't have much to them, so you have to sprint to get anywhere efficiently), or forced tutorials (I too would like to at least the option to skip if I've played the game before)). I only meant to watch the latter, but ended up doing the former because I kept accidentally selecting it while trying to rearrange my Watch Later queue/rewrite a comment. Have to remember "Backspace" means "go back a page" in Firefox. . . Ah well, both were interesting, so I can't complain.
-->Played some Fallout 4 -- softie that I am, I have decided to take care of the two settlements Preston told me were having trouble before I go to finish the "Taking Independence" quest. I imagine I'll get back to the main story in about 2287? Anyway, this involved a lot of trekking about the map with Strong (after a quick stop at the Starlight Drive In to pick up my minigun -- I suspect I will need that in the fight against the monster at the Castle), fighting enemies and discovering new locations. Most of the things we fought weren't too bad -- vicious dogs, feral ghouls, synths, this one Mr. Handy called Mr. Gutsy who thought we were Chinese infiltrators. . .but hooo boy, the fun started when we ran into the RADSCORPIONS. The first normal two we beat up were bad enough, but then we came across a LEGENDARY RADSCORPION HUNTER. . .died at least FIVE TIMES to that fuck before finally managing to snipe it to death (with Strong providing sledgehammer assistance). Ugh. . .
On the plus side, I made it to the first settlement having problems -- and it turns out, the feral ghoul colony they're so worried about is LITERALLY right next door. So this will be an easy one to clear, yay. I also picked up a new quest -- The Lost Patrol, about finding out what happened to some fallen Brotherhood of Steel members. I'm not planning on joining, but I'm curious as to the circumstances of their deaths, so Victor might as well follow along with the questline for now. My current plan is to clear this ghoul infestation and report back to the settlers; go do what I can for the OTHER settlement that needs help; see what my best option is for getting over to where Garvey is the quickest; go do "Taking Independence," then leave the Minutemen to their radio for a bit; sent Strong to a settlement that needs some guarding (and probably leave him there forever because I don't really like him), and then FINALLY get my ass to Diamond City. If I ever want the "Valice" equivalent of this playthrough to get off the ground, I have to meet Piper, darn it!
-->Edited the next part of "A Wedding, A Wedding" -- Victor and Alice getting offered the Brighton honeymoon from William and Nell. It's an interesting scene -- lot of tension between parents and son because of their differing opinions on what a wedding should be like. Plus all the other backstory looming over them. . . Frankly, it's not surprising at all to me that Victor eventually tells them that they don't have to come if they disapprove that much of what he and Alice are doing. Yay for having in-universe reasons not to include them in the happiest day of Victor and Alice's lives. :p
-->Watched James's look at some of the features of the new Sims 4 patch -- the "photos now can be placed on tables" feature is yay, as is the ability to pick from a variety of new picture frames; changing the orientation -- noooot so much. And "Off The Grid" has been improved -- like being able to change the water in the washtub -- but it's still hard to find items that will work "off the grid" in a lot of categories. They added it as a search term, but it only brings up a few specific categories? And using it as a plain text search doesn't work? Ugh, Sims Team, why is everything two steps forward, one step back with you guys. . .
-->Watched the latest Jay runs of 60 Seconds Reatomized -- it took a lot of blood, a lot of sweat, a lot of tears, one mutant Mary Jane, and one scientist ending, but the ice cream truck of doom has wheels! Or, rather, caterpillar treads. :D So that's cool. Now we're all hoping that it just needs some gas, and then we can achieve the special "drive away" ending. :D It's kind of neat that there's a special ending that you have to build up through multiple playthroughs. Might be nicer if you were guaranteed a part every X runs, but still.
-->And took care of my Valice Multiverse queue -- just some questions, nothing too difficult. I appreciate the bit of quiet.
And now I'm just going to clear out what's left in my inbox before going over to do my Friday Night Writing Thing. Plans for tomorrow are to:
1. Watch the latest Atop The Fourth Wall
2. Start the "Thursday By Night" Critical Role campaign
3. Play more Bloodlines
4. Get in a walk (it's supposed to be a beautiful weekend)
Simple to-do list, but it should keep me busy. Especially since that middle item concerns a two-part V:tM game that is about seven and a half hours long, combined. . . Time management will be required. Hopefully I'm up for the task.
Right now, though, answering comments. Night all!
