Bit Of A Late Update
Jan. 26th, 2022 11:41 pmMostly because I'm trying to clear out some of my tracked tumblr tags after not looking at them for a few days -- here's the usual form for updates:
Work – Well, better commutes (though this morning was pretty thick), but the day itself was pretty “eh.” Lots of little things grabbing my attention, a donor calling about some credit card nonsense I hadn’t been able to get resolved, forcing me to contact them AGAIN, tax letter stuff – it was just a day of little frustrations that annoyed me. Meeeh.
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – back on the bike, and back with Jon’s Unpacking livestream! He and Claire finished unpacking the Girlfriend into the flat (Jon leaving the vitamin D on their bed for “fun times” before the game said “no, put it in the bathroom”) and moved onto the final level – the 2018 “we own a house and we are having a baby” move. :D Claire was appropriately excited, Jon thought it was maybe a little fast – but then they both saw the nursery and squeed. And their Twitch chat was apparently full of stories of people who dove into relationships/families very quickly and are still doing just fine, so. . . Anyway, they’re working their way through the various rooms, with Jon getting a bit distracted halfway through unpacking the kitchen and moving up to the walk-in wardrobe upstairs before heading back. And he remains a troll – pretending the Protagonist’s children’s book is a cheery version of Animal Farm (George Orwell’s OTHER famously-depressing title), and that the fact she has a big stack of personal copies means it isn’t doing well; bemoaning the fact that the faux-Game of Thrones series never made it past book three in this verse (and then chat apparently telling him that it’s actually DnD books, which is interesting); and STILL complaining about Girlfriend/Wife’s taste in anime series, putting her poster up in the downstairs bathroom for literal shits and giggles. XD Claire was like “why are you so horrible?” XD And then he mistook garbage bags for another poster. *shakehead* I am looking forward to seeing how they pull the whole house together. . .and honestly, I kind of want to try and recreate the house in my Sims game, just for funsies. I’ll have to find some good pictures of the floor plan!
2. Continue editing Chapter 5 of “Londerland Bloodlines: Santa Monica’s Vale Of Tears”: Check – Alice has not only gotten her $150 from Arthur, she also got a nice surprise at her mailbox – the “So You Wanna Shoot Things?” skill book, gifted to her by a grateful Carson. :) I thought that would be nice of him! So yeah, that and getting paid for another successful job are two points in the “plus” column for the night. Not enough to balance out the “Therese may just try to kill me” minuses for now, but – small steps.
3. Keep up with YouTube Subscriptions: Check – one in the Subs, two in the Watch Later –
A) Started with a pair of OX lists:
I. OXtra, “7 Fun Achievements Only Curious Players Will Get” – those silly little achievements you get for just messing around a bit in a game – often with goofy or punny titles. From getting “Pigeon Simulator” for climbing on the head of a statue peeing into a fountain in Human Fall Flat, to “I Regret Nothing” to finding Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning’s ONLY fall damage death (to be fair, you’re deliberately jumping through a hole in the middle of a city IN THE SKY), to “Good Grub” for feeding the pet alien bug in Half-Life: Alyx, there’s a lot of cute little trophies or bits of gamerscore you can pick up for just being curious and trying new things. :) Yay!
II. OXBox, “7 Times Game Music Was Way Better Than It Needed to Be” – aka video game music finally getting the respect it DESERVES, courtesy of our boy Andy. :) From the smash hit of “Meglovania” (aka the Sans Boss Music from Undertale, which a good number of gamers would never attempt), to the chill space vibes of the “Galaxy Map” (your guide to the universe in Mass Effect), to the shockingly good beats of the title screen music from the Robocop licensed game (done on the original GameBoy, no less!), video games have some real bangers. :) I mean, I’ll always be grateful the OXBoxers introduced me to Animal Crossing: New Horizons’s 2 AM theme, which is genuinely one of my favorite pieces of music in general. Good stuff. :)
B) And then, to kill those chill vibes, we had GrayStillPlays and more Happy Wheels in the Subs. XD Naturally started with a bottle flip, where Gray’s attempts to kill hobos via cleaver and landmine were stymied by his own ability to pile bottles into ridiculous combinations JUST ABOVE the slots he was aiming for (he did eventually get both via sheer determination and luck); then we had the “Pit of Death” (crossbows, harpoons, homing mines – Gray sent Tom Hardy to take the brunt of the blow and then just concentrated on falling fast enough to hit the win before something took him out); the board of “lab experiments (like making it through the dots of death, avoiding jetting yourself into spikes, and falling down the world’s most ridiculous spike fall in three alternating sections); the bottle run into a rope swing (with a twirling rope sped up by a yeeter, meaning Gray was constantly flung PAST the win – he eventually managed to fly his bicycle over there instead of swinging normally); a speedboat ride that was over very quickly (and was apparently very accurate to Florida, at least as per Gray); the board of creepy gear puzzles starring Pogo Guy (where not only did you have to hop, you had to figure out which combination of gear flowers opened the door at the end for you to wiggle through – all while most of the damn board was STARING at you with its blinky eyes); a rope swing hell (where you had to land in the EXACT right position to grab the rope that would take you to glory – otherwise you were going to spend a lot of time swinging into spikes or falling to your death); a “don’t move” board all about pretending to be Spider-Man dodging harpoons (mostly – even without Gray’s input, one hit him in the usual place); and a trip through the garden avoiding the deadly bits of various insects (like a caterpillar with axes for antennae, or a bumblebee with a broadsword sting). As usual, I am impressed both with everyone’s creativity, and Gray’s ability to get through damn near any board he finds. XD
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – reset my queue speed to one a day, then started thinking about options for Song Saturday and came up with reblogging one of my old posts featuring “Everything” by Alanis Morrisette!
. . .BOTH of my old posts on the song were missing the video (one gone entirely, one with the video blocked on copyright grounds). *grumble* Fortunately I was quickly able to refind it on YouTube, and on one of the OFFICIAL channels no less, so it’s in the queue in a form that SHOULDN’T go walkabout. Fingers crossed!
And tags conquered, yay -- now time to speed off to bed. Just two more days to get through. . .and the possibility of a major storm on Saturday, yaaaay. *sigh* Night all!
