I Have Earned My Freedom
May. 25th, 2022 11:51 pmAnd I'm taking it in the form of a lazy night. Though I did make sure to do a few things:
Work – Decently quiet day – I returned some calls for people, took a few updates to credit cards, got through some exception notes, stuff like that. I mean, a lot of stuff just straight up annoyed me, but I’m blaming that on the blood leaking from my crotch. :p And it kind of went up to the last minute, with my coworker asking me to look stuff up, but I got out, I braved the traffic home, and now I am on a long weekend, hoo-RAY. Gonna be nice, I hope.
Beanbags – Still very nice out today, so we headed out – slightly less equitable scores than yesterday, but we all still pulled out a win! I got 3-2-W; Dad got 2-W-2; Mom got W-3-3. Not too shabby!
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – another night on the bike means we’re three-quarters of the way through the Oxventure Stream “Tower Rangers!” As it turns out, I did not see where things were going when it comes to the weird portal-wall – namely because Corazon’s Otherbert scale never came up. Instead, Prudence went all “Detect Magic” and discovered it was a sort of weird glamour, but didn’t have any clue how to dispel it, while Corazon actually hacked at the mortar with his knife and rolled well enough to make a peephole! Showing a grand courtyard, and a big-ass tower. Prudence promptly used her Clairvoyance spell to take a look inside the top level, and saw a rapid-Otherbert-clone-growing operation, powered by poor Egbert in a vat in the center of the room, watched by a scientist and Liliana herself. Naturally the trio wanted to get their buddy out of that situation, but still couldn’t find a way through the illusory wall. . .
Merilwen, meanwhile, had of course been trucked through the wall by the Otherberts she was with, hearing all sorts of curious tromping through various rooms, Otherberts greeting other people and then going “glad I wasn’t part of that batch. . .” before finally being plonked on the floor in her bag. She peeped out to see the Otherberts hanging out in the room, chatting and engaging in some artistic pursuits. There was a doorway with stairs leading up on the other side of the room, and a doorway with stairs leading down right next to her – Merilwen smartly took the stairs leading down and found herself weaving through some other Otherbert rooms. Notably, she found a community of thick-browed Caveberts doing drawings on the wall, and a bunch of Crocberts lounging around in a pool, so unbothered by her presence she could just bounce right off their heads without a single one stirring. XD She made it back to the main foyer where she discovered a giant bowl of keys, and a large lever behind glass reading “Do Not Touch” in fancier words than that. XD She left said lever alone for the moment (despite her inner Dob’s complaints), then turned back into elf form, grabbed a key, and let herself out into a lovely courtyard! With a couple of trees, some nice stone benches. . .
And her friends standing at one end, acting like they were in some sort of weird mime school. XD Yeah, the wall very much did not exist on Merilwen’s side, leading to some confused banter as she went over to see what was up. She was even able to stick her hand through to the other side, though Dob trying to get her to pull him through went – poorly. Though not as much as it could have, because, again, made the Constitution save. XD Merilwen told them what she’d discovered on her trip through the tower, while Prudence filled her in on what was going on atop the tower. After some chat (that was mostly “yeah totally go pull the lever”), Merilwen decided to try the lever she’d seen before, though FIRST she went and got some emergency keys to leave for her friends to get inside the tower. And then, upon pulling the lever and dropping the wall for them to book it inside (and setting off an alarm in the process), she grabbed the entire BOWL of keys, returned the lever to the “illusion up” position, then ran outside and locked the door behind her, mindful of possible pursuit.
Fortunately, judging by the footsteps, it was one of the Crocberts or Caveberts who came to investigate, and their attention span proved to be limited. So the gang wasn’t rumbled yet! Discussions on how to get up the tower commenced, with Prudence immediately winning everyone over climbing the OUTSIDE instead of trying to figure out a way past all the Otherberts of varying descriptions. Prudence of course has Spider Climb, Merilwen her octopus form, and Dob his incredible Dex/Acrobatics checks (XD) – Corazon brought his rope and grappling hook to the party, and it was quickly agreed that they’d tie all their ropes together and have Prudence bring the hook up to the top with her spell so everyone could quickly shimmy up after her. Prudence did so, going over the various pagoda-style roofs lining the walls and seeing glimpses of all the Otherberts (including some listening to loud music and one of their own calling out numbers – Bingoberts?) and – at Johnny’s suggestion – bemoaning not bringing her “revenge outfit.” Unfortunately, Johnny said specifically the outfit was a yellow tracksuit with black stripes –
Cue Dob pointing out that Prudence COULD have been wearing that outfit if she’d gone along with the Beeples costumes. XD And so began another cavalcade of bee puns, this time about Bruce Bee (as apparently Johnny was referencing a Bruce Lee film) and Uma Thurmbee (as Jane (and I) took it as a Kill Bill reference – I’m guessing that was also referencing the Bruce Lee film!). XD Eventually they worked them out of their system, and Prudence made it to the top floor, and even JUST got to glare at Liliana through the window without being spotted thanks to a good roll. XD She tied the rope around a gargoyle made to look like Egbert’s head (after taking a stealthy moment to hug it <3) and tossed it down to the others, who proceeded to climb up – unfortunately, Dob rolling super well as always and ending up climbing without even using his legs inspired Corazon, who also rolled decently, to try climbing without using his arms. Leaving Merilwen, who got a middling eleven on the check, to suffer trying to climb a badly-swaying rope and end up slamming into the Fancyberts’ (as we’re now calling the Otherberts in fancy dress who were in the pub) window. Fortunately they were very distracted with singing a rousing song and never noticed her. XD Everyone eventually made it to the top, and discussions began about how the hell to get inside and rescue Egbert. General consensus seemed to be “figure out a way to distract Liliana so she’ll leave,” but nobody was sure what to do after that. Do they kill the scientist or just knock him out, considering they might need him to figure out how to get Egbert out of his tank safely? Does Merilwen use her new super-sneaky spell? Does Corazon disguise himself as Liliana and order the scientist to take Egbert out of the tank, despite Dob’s misgivings? We shall see tomorrow! I suspect no matter what, it’s gonna end with a roll for initiative. XD
2. Continue writing “Londerland Bloodlines: Downtown Queensland”: No check – I deliberately took the day off today, as – well, trying to get my writing done this week was stressing me out, and my period makes me think everything I’m writing kinda sucks anyway. Better to take an evening to zone out and let the brain reset, I think! I can get back on the wagon with my projects tomorrow.
3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check – I am once again caught up with the two videos that needed watching –
A) Started with yesterday’s Call Me Kevin: “Trying The Worst Life Hacks I Could Find!” Yes, he was watching shit like “5 Second Crafts” again, reacting to the nonsense and trying out a few key hacks. Like drawing a roadway on the back of a white t-shirt to have Anna massage him with a toy car! (And then attempting to do it himself with a controller and failing utterly.) Or trying the migraine cure of sticking your feet in warm water and balancing a bag of frozen veg on your head. XD Or giving Anna a giant bar of chocolate to get her to stop being mad at him for signing up for Scientology. And then taking it BACK so he could unsuccessfully make chocolate coffee. XD Though there was some shit that he just wouldn’t touch – like bringing a stepladder to the beach as a makeshift diving board. Or filling a stuffed toy with rice to warm it up for a child. Or wearing a t-shirt like a skirt to pour chips on it (he VERY DELIBERATELY put some snacks in a BOWL to counter that one). XD Ah, good times – I’ve missed Kevin just being absolutely baffled by some of the other shit on YouTube. XD
B) Then it was time for today’s GrayStillPlays, which was more Happy Wheels! We started with a bottle flip with a bit of a DIY-theme, where to win you had to land the bottles on the right screws to make mashed potatoes (potato, butter, salt, cream – or you could get the clown nose rain and hope they landed in the right spots before turning you into chunky salsa), then moved onto an epic blue-and-pink rope swing (where Gray accidentally circumvented half the board at the start, only to discover that was a very bad idea when it came to swinging far enough to complete it); a very difficult harpoon run (where speed was key and hopefully you hit the win before the jets there pulverized you); a troll board full of falling bits and pieces, fake triangles to ride over, and letters to steal (Gray was laughing in confusion over where the hell he was supposed to even go half the time); an “unusual glass break” (started out the typical sideways kind of break but after a surprisingly easy Level 999, Gray had to drop and break the glass UNDER him instead – also there was flying glass at one point); a pogo prison break that involved dodging people firing butcher cleaver guns (and Gray accidentally being super-badass in fending off a surprise enemy who leaps at you with a sword); an “action movie” motorbike board involving crashing through windows, making epic leaps, and running people over on the way to the win (hopefully not losing any of your own limbs); a surprisingly-long “Do Not Move” heart transplant board (with Gray talking about things like how you identify different bones as his character was slowly mulched to get at the heart); Pogo Man’s escape from a Canadian hospital (involved climbing Mount Canadian and traversing the Canadian sewers); and finally a rocket trip to the moon in the world’s most unwieldy rocket (Gray only won because his guy was still alive despite being cut in half when he finally hit the win). Nothing too stressful for old Gray – I think he needed the break. XD
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Minimal check – I’ve got a post queued up for tomorrow, but nothing else yet. Mostly because I need to do a tumblr tag trawl on the morrow and see if there’s anything that needs to be reblogged/slapped into the drafts. But I have something to cover me for Thursday, and that will work.
And with that, I'm off to go veg out reading various bits and bobs. :p And setting up a to-do list for tomorrow:
1. Continue working on "As Long As You Love Me" or do some personal AU stuff
2. Keep up with YouTube Subs and get the Sims videos out of my Watch Later
3. Play Sims 4 and do some building in the San MyShuno Park
4. Work on tumblr drafts
5. Get in a workout
I think those should all be achievable goals! Especially after a brain reset night. :p Night all!
