crossover_chick: Victor leaning over to look at a blue butterfly in a glass jar (CB: i has a happy thing)
I have quite enjoyed this day off where I had a limited to-do list and no shame about getting caught up in random crap throughout the day. :p Nice to have one of those every once in a while! Let me tell you how it's been:

1. Continue writing "As Long As You Love Me": Check! Did that this afternoon, after Goosing my way around the village (see below) – Victor has finally realized that yeah, Alice is completely correct about her role in life, her mission, and the fact he's supposed to be with her right now. . .mostly because getting a baseball to the head on a hot and sunny day has not resulted in either a concussion or a nasty sunburn for him. And, awash with the realization that his life actually has purpose, he’s suddenly totally on board with the whole “holistic assassin” thing. XD That closes out chapter five – next time, we start Chapter Six and another little break in the murder action with a nice hotel stay! Though first they need to learn how to ride a motorcycle. . .

2. Keep up with YouTube Subs and get some stuff out of the Watch Later: Check – started later than I had planned thanks to reading up on Blades in the Dark (again, see below), but I did catch up on all Subs videos AND get a couple out of the Watch Later –

A) Started with a couple of OXBoxtra lists from the WL –

I. “7 Terrible Cheat Codes That Made Everything Worse” – Jane (subbing for Luke) and Ellen discuss those cheat codes that actually made your life worse – or, sometimes, just a bit weirder. Try the classic “god mode” cheat in DOOM-clone Heretic (aka Fantasy DOOM)? Surprise, it’s an insta-kill now! Have a hankering for “supersaber” in the Star Wars Episode III video game to give Anakin a boost with his laser sword? Surprise, it only affects ENEMY JEDI/SITH. Decide to figure out what the “chicken” cheat code does in the dragon-riding game Lair, perhaps curious to see if you’ll become a fire-breathing chicken? Surprise, it – plays a video of one of the team opening and poorly plating a plate of chicken-based Indian food. O.o Another cheat code in the same game shows their coffee maker making coffee. No, nobody else understands it either. (On the plus side, you CAN turn your dragon into a fire-breathing classic car via a LEGIT cheat code, so there ARE reasons to play the game.)

II. “7 Unwinnable Boss Fights You Can Beat If You're Good Enough: Commenter Edition” – Jane, Andy, and Mike talk about supposedly “unwinnable” boss fights that commenters on an older video pointed out ARE winnable – if you’re willing to punish yourself enough. Sadly, most of them aren’t really worth it – beat the literally hellish ninja boss in Ninja Gaiden Sigma when you first encounter him in front of a burning building? He still gets to insta-kill Ryu in a cutscene, and your only reward is unlocking an EVEN HARDER difficulty mode. Defeat the tutorial “Vanguard” boss in Demon Souls? Surprise, there’s a cutscene nasty ready to kill you to prompt the plot-important cutscene. The only one that gets it right is Chrono Trigger rewarding you with an early ending and a special “developer’s room” to roam around in should you manage to beat Lavos in your FIRST encounter with the terrible beast. The development team praising me for getting the hardest ending? Now THAT’S a reward.

B) Then it was over to the Subs for last night’s surprisingly late Fun With Shorts –“Food That Builds Good Health!” A forties/fifties short about eating right, back when “bread and butter” was considered its own food group. XD Featured a pale, underweight young boy learning that he had to eat his ginormous breakfasts from seeing the class torture a guinea pig with an unbalanced diet! Josh was rightfully annoyed by this and unleashed some delightful riffs, including one about “pee streams, how we rehydrate the Earth.” XD Always love a good crack at the more nonsensical “educational” shorts of the past!

C) And finally, we had GrayStillPlays and "When your neck reaches the edge of space", aka the return of Long Neck Run! Because Gray isn’t done seeing how far his neck can stretch, damn it. Today’s episode featured lots of donut-necked beings (plus one tire-necked girl) running the courses and growing their necks taller and taller – past the dollar-store knock-off Enterprise, past the tower holding prisoner the stick figure that kick-started all this nonsense (yes, because apparently this game does have a paper-thin plot), and past even the powerhouse that is Godzilla – only to see not only a dragon waiting for them, but some sort of massive THING that will require getting their neck over 160,000 units. Welp – Gray, if you can figure out a way to cheese this game, now is the time! (And – you know what, I’m gonna admit it – I’m tempted to download this one. He makes it look fun for a time-wasting ad-infested mobile game XD)

Additionally:

-->Did catch up on my tumblr dashboard a bit, and did add something to my drafts from it – a nice picture set of fancy Victorian-style waistcoats that I thought might suit Victor! Or Smiler, in the right time period/AU.

-->For gaming, I decided to work on the time trials in Untitled Goose Game for an hour (since I haven’t completed all of them in my second save file) – after some very careful fiddling, I managed to crack “complete the High Street to-do list before the church bells ring,” but I haven’t yet gotten to the bottom of “complete the back gardens to-do list before the church bells ring.” That one’s fairly tough because you’re moving between two discrete areas (and the fact that the Messy Neighbor keeps closing your entrance into her yard whenever she notices the bit of lattice has fallen over can make things more difficult), and completing a couple of the tasks can actually stop other ones from happening in the six minutes you’re allowed (for example, once the Tidy Neighbor has noticed all the stuff floating in his fountain from you “doing the wash,” he’ll spend most of his time tossing it all back over the fence, preventing you from either making him spit out his tea or get his other slipper to make him go barefoot). I assume there is an “ideal” way to go about this, but I haven’t figured it out yet. (Or, well, I HAD figured it out, but that was back when I first got the game, and that’s about two years ago now? Either way, it needs figuring out!)

-->We did indeed play beanbags, as it was warm but low humidity today – and I think the game can be summed up as “Dad was just ON FIRE, Mom was COMPLETELY off, I was good enough to be in the middle in all cases but one” (aka, third game, I had my best throws and Dad had his worst, with him being unable to catch up to me at the very end). Final scores were me 2-2-W-2-2; Dad W-W-2-W-W; Mom 3-3-3-3-3. Better luck tomorrow, Mom!

-->And, as indicated above, the major "thing" of the day for me was reading up more on Blades in the Dark! Which I only today realized was made by the guy who made the one-page RPG Lasers and Feelings, aka that super-simple RPG that Oxventure plays when they're in space. XD I have become quite fascinated by this RPG, to the point that this evening, I bought the PDF copy of the book direct from John Harper's site, after reading through all the free stuff and checking out some of the forums. I just keep getting sucked into the explanations of the character playbooks, and the different types of crews, and the setting with its electroplasm lighting and its hordes of ghosts and its weird-ass gaslamp fantasy vibe. . .

And yes, as you might expect, I've been trying to adapt Victor and Alice to this world, or at least its playbooks. Smiler too, in fact! I haven't gotten all the details down yet, but I know Alice is a Cutter (a dangerous melee fighter), Victor a Whisper (an expert on ghosts and the arcane), and Smiler a Slide (a smooth-talking manipulator) -- though, thanks to something I learned on the forums, they actually have one of the Leech's (mad sciencey sorts) special abilities to start, for alchemical potions -- mostly because my concept for them in this world is they hawk homemade Joy Serum to the masses. XD Their crew type would be Shadows, the robbery-focused crew -- their schtick is hitting the corrupt rich people of the city (including Victor's own parents) and then spreading out the wealth among their own turf. And they operate out of the prostitute district, as they have protection from Nan Sharpe there. :p Still working out specific backstories and whatnot, but it's been very fun coming up with these versions of the characters! :D

In fact, I'm still reading the book now, in between doing the social thing. . .so let me wrap up here with the Sunday to-do list:

1. Keep up with the FO4 playthrough progression

2. Keep up with YouTube Subs and Jon's FO4 "Legendary Roulette" video

3. Play Fallout 4 and ACTUALLY start moving toward Finch Farm

4. Work on tumblr drafts

5. Get in a workout

Yeah, back to the normal grind tomorrow. :p But hey, at least I don't have the looming specter of the work-week hanging over everything this week! So that's something. *waves* Night all!
