Remember Vic It Is TUESDAY
Nov. 1st, 2022 11:50 pmThanks to the long weekend (and the gaming I did today, below), I keep feeling like today is Sunday. But no, it is Tuesday, and fortunately I only have three days of work before me. Unfortunately, I'm updating quite late because in talking to my friend Squid earlier, I got to wondering again exactly when I got on the Valice train (I THINK it was sometime in 2008? If I recall correctly, the whole thing was tied to me getting into the "beyondtherift" RP community. . .) and spent a lot more time than I thought trying to track down the actual start of the ship. So yeah, let me throw this all at you before running off to bed --
-->Tumblr: Covered both Victor Luvs Alice and Valice Multiverse today –
A) Did the dash-and-tags catch-up on Victor Luvs Alice this morning, then drafted out all of the posts for this week’s Chill Save, covering SimCity Founding around lunch (and taking down Halloween decorations) – fifty pictures, five posts! O.o I don’t know why I still call this file the “Chill Save,” it’s anything but these days. XD But at least that’s all set now! Shot all the posts into the queue this evening.
B) And put two thread replies and three ask replies into the Valice Multiverse queue this night, as well as answered some messages and got an idea of what my friend Mary wanted for an upcoming gift fic (something featuring her OC Lily and Victor/Victoria/Emily, which I think I can do). Took longer than I wanted, but it is all done!
-->Fallout 4: I was tempted to do a little Sims instead (take a moment to upgrade one of the cabins in Granite Falls for the Valicer trio before their vacation), but as it turns out, a new patch dropped today – small but significant – and that means I’ll have to wait another few days to make sure everything is all right. So yes, went with good old FO4 instead! Bit of a shorter session, but that just matches with my short session of Sims 4 on Saturday. :p And I got a fair bit done even in roughly 40 minutes –
A) First things first, since Victor was up early and none of the shops or anything would be open yet, I had him unload the portable workbench to do some crafting! Gave the Two-Shot Combat Rifle a nice recoil compensating stock; gave Righteous Authority a nice long scope (since once I have more fiberglass and fiber optics I am totally making it a sniper); and cooked a little food until. . .
B) Level Up! :D Victor has made Level 26! I promptly had him grab Armorer Level 3, then hopped BACK on the workbench to improve his lovely Wanderer backpack – boosting the carry capacity all the way up to 150, then adding some pouches on the straps with an extra 25 pounds of carry capacity. This brings him all the way up to 655 pounds of carry weight. :D I am very pleased indeed.
C) By that point, it was 10:12 AM in-game, so I had Victor head out into Diamond City proper. There was a dust storm going on, but I was able to navigate him over to Arturo’s, where he sold off the Acrobat Painted Metal Right Leg, the Assassin’s Synth Left Leg, and the Destroyer Left Leg (none of which were as good as his heavy Painted Metal left leg), plus a handful of weapon mods, trading them all for more .45 ammo (gotta keep my beloved Two-Shot going!). I then had Victor empty Piper’s inventory of all the leftover weapon mods (since he could now carry them without issue), then headed up with her to the elevator to the mayor’s office. Told her to wait by the elevator since I already knew the mayor wouldn’t be interested in seeing her, then headed up there all on my lonesome.
D) Waited a couple of minutes for the dust to clear from the office, then had Victor speak to Geneva (Mayor McDonough’s secretary) to make sure it was all right to just go inside – she assured him that the mayor’s office was open to everyone but members of the press. Fun! With that out of the way, Victor proceeded in, where McDonough attempted to charm him by saying he wishes he was in Victor’s shoes, seeing Diamond City for the first time, and asked how he could help. He changed his tune pretty quickly when Victor explained he needed to go investigate Kellogg’s house, explaining that he valued his citizens’ privacy above all and that giving him the key would be impossible. . .
E) And then changed his tune again when Victor, thanks to my modded-in “grape juice” (hubflowers soaked in purified water), smashed the Charisma check to tell him that “Kellogg kidnapped my kid, so I need those keys.” Ah, I love having temporary +10 Charisma for these moments. . . McDonough blustered about how of course he would help with this personal tragedy, he never liked Kellogg anyway, here are the keys, but you should know he abandoned that place a while back so you’re not likely to find anything. Suuuure, McDonough, you Institute plant. *rolls eyes*
F) Keys in hand, Victor headed out of the office, back down the elevator, then collected Piper and went to catch up with Nick, who was having a smoke by Kellogg’s locked door. They opened the place up to find a very tiny and sparse apartment, which Nick felt wasn’t indicative of Kellogg’s personality. I had Victor loot the place for goodies, then press the half-hidden button under his desk to open up the secret room on the side. And then looted that too before noting the “San Francisco Sunlight” cigars on the desk, prompting Nick to say that was a clue and suggest Dogmeat (who magically appeared outside the house, knowing he was needed) to track the scent on them. Nick also offered his services as a companion to help Victor. . .
G) Cue me hastily looking up on my phone how to make sure that Piper, when I dismissed her, went back to her actual house and her actual sister rather than a settlement. Because if you send her a settlement, she’ll NEVER go back to her actual house and her actual sister. Fortunately it’s as simple as canceling out of the “send Piper to this place” menu, which made me happy. (My back-up plan was “Hangman’s Alley,” as that’s the settlement closest to Diamond City.) Piper headed back to Publick Occurrences, and I ended the session with Victor and Nick preparing to give Dogmeat the cigar and start the chase for Kellogg! Next week – we move on to “Reunions” and make the trip to Fort Hagan!
-->Writing: Back to the FO4 Playthrough Progression, no surprise there. Though my entry for today was rather different than what actually went down in my game –
A) Rather than Victor needing to ask McDonough for the key, Alice offered to pick the lock on the door herself that morning. . .and when she couldn’t manage it, she just ripped the door off its hinges. XD
B) She, Victor, Nick, and Piper all explored the little suite together – and when Victor found the San Francisco Sunlight cigars and Nick suggested getting Dogmeat to track the scent (well, he described a dog he’d worked with in the past, and Victor recognized the description as Dogmeat), Alice offered to get the pup using her Celerity to cover the distance between Diamond City and the Sanctuary Red Rocket faster (because he can’t just magically appear outside the door in a non-video-game world). I made the weather generally worse (a rainy, dreary day instead of a dust storm subsiding into sunshine) to facilitate this.
C) All of Victor’s various crafting (modding his guns and his backpacks, doing some cooking) and selling happened after Kellogg’s house was cracked, not before – he also did go to visit Mayor McDonough, but just to see if the guy had any idea where Kellogg was (answer was nope).
D) That being said, Victor did trade Piper for Nick as his companion (with Piper admitting she’d like to spend some time with Nat now) and happily looted everything in Kellogg’s quarters, like in my game. XD And he’s left it off at the same place, now that Alice is back with their pup. Next time – the hunt for Kellogg begins!
-->Workout: Yup, finally started those again today! XD Back on the bike, and this time my video of choice was the third “Oxventure in Space” episode! Yes, the Laserventurers (minus one – this was done while Luke was off the channel, so no Stardob) were back, thanks to the gang playing Lasers & Feelings for New York Comic Con’s “metaverse” again. :) The adventure began with the gang on board their ship, suffering through another coconut shrimp breakfast, when they noticed an absolutely wretched smell in the galley. Corazon de Estrella (aka Corazon E) insisted it wasn’t the Rigellian ultra-testicles he was recently acquitted of smuggling (don’t look in the cupboards, guys) and said that Egbot, being a robot, should track it down as he doesn’t have the same senses as humans – Egbot agreed to do so, and found the source of the smell behind one of the panels.
Where he discovered a whole lot of eggs stuck to the crawlspace inside the walls, with the stench coming from one that fell off, broke, and rotted. After some banter about whether or not these were more of Corazon E’s testicles (that left Mer-Ilwen shaking with laughter – though, to be honest, she was just glad the smell wasn’t Stardob, having drunkenly gotten into the walls; the others assured her he was just at a symposium), Egbot used his tongue probe (ew) to test the material. A good roll got him that these were the eggs of some mysterious creature. . .and that said creature’s name was redacted in his memory banks by the people who make his parts. Corazon E attempted to break into his brain to hack him and get past the redaction, but wasn’t able to bullshit it as a Feelings roll (even by saying “I’m feeling lucky”), and ended up just subtly breaking something in Egbot’s programming and/or body. Whoops. Pru D’Enzia decided to put her security officer skills to work and do a scan of the walls – she rolled well enough on Lasers that her scan revealed that there were a LOT of eggs stuck inside said walls, and that they all seemed very deliberately placed. The gang decided it was time to risk asking L1L14N4 a question, that question being, “Um, were your previous crew smugglers?”
Answer – yes! L1L14N4 was actually quite surprised the current crew didn’t know about this already. But indeed, the previous crew was smuggling these eggs (or, as they’d instructed her to call them, “footballs”) to a buyer in Port Featherfall in the Fairwind system. The shipment was, naturally, late at this point, but L1L14N4 estimated they’d still get like 3 million space doubloons for a successful delivery. Corazon E immediately began shopping for expensive space yachts. XD Mer-Ilwen, meanwhile, put her own xenobiology skills to use to examine the eggs and the rotted embryo – and thanks to getting Laser Feelings on her roll, was able to just ASK Johnny what animals they were. XD They didn’t give her a name, but they did specify that they’re dangerous animals – weird little quadrupeds who seem to hunt in packs and have swollen glands on their faces allowing them to use a sonic attack against prey or enemies. Mer passed this on to the others – Corazon E wasn’t worried, as L1L14N4 was able to let them know that the eggs were due to hatch in two weeks, but the trip to Port Featherfall would only take five days. And even if they did hatch, he figured they’d be small enough to punt. Pru, on the other hand, was a bit worried, and decided to rig up a quick-freeze system to put the eggs on ice if necessary, getting a Laser Feelings roll and thus able to ask Johnny “if I do freeze them, can they be unfrozen safely?” Johnny’s response was largely along the lines of “you believe so, and honestly, any problems that would result are the buyer’s problem to deal with – if there are complications, you’ll probably already be away on Corazon E’s space yacht before you have to deal with them.” XD Egbot also agreed to keep a literal eye on them, trapping him in the galley and forcing him to eat more coconut shrimp, poor android.
So it was off to Port Featherfall! Corazon E rolled Laser Feelings on his attempt to chart a course and actually shaved off a bit of time on the journey, and used his question to ask how many hot tubs his yacht should have (it was agreed that two, one at each end, would be a good idea to maximize access without making the place look like a bathhouse – and besides, if L1L14N4 got into the systems, she’d surely turn one into a crayfish boil, so best to have a backup). They arrived without incident, and I’ve left it with them dealing with the security team, with Corazon E claiming they’re just a party ship picking up supplies. We’ll see if the security team buys it tomorrow!
-->YouTube: Well, got three things out of the Subs today, meaning I’m only behind two on that now – both Kevin videos, so we’ll see if I can use his “every other day” upload schedule to my advantage to catch those up. In the meantime –
A) First up this afternoon, a surprise video from Josh from Fun With Shorts – “Look out, it's my face!” Which was indeed him speaking to us on-camera (a VERY rare occurrence for him), explaining that he’s gonna be branching out with the channel – doing art videos, videos discussing topics of interest for him, things like that. Good of him to give us a head’s up before the format changes, I guess! Though he has assured us he’ll still be doing the Shorts, so that’s good.
B) And then, because I finally had the time for it – I watched GrayStillPlays and “The 100 Most Dangerous Water Slides in GTA 5!” That hour-and-a-half video from a week ago of waterslide pain. As my friend Squid told me, it was actually mostly a compilation video of some of the worst waterslides Gray has had to suffer thanks to Alex, Danny, and an early contender for Agony King, Jose, though I think the very first one was new – I would have remembered him having to do two mega jumps off water slides (once through building sign into a teleporter WITHOUT hitting any of the bars in the way, and one from like the highest height imaginable for a slide), followed by him getting dumped in a pool, as Alex promised – without any water. XD But the others were all classics from other videos. Have to admit, though, it had been a while since I saw any of them, and I needed the laugh, so. . .
C) And then this evening, after doing my write-ups for FO4, the Playthrough Progression, and my workout above, I only had time for one video, so I picked the Gray upload for the day (yeah, looks like he just skipped Halloween for whatever reason) – “Trading from $0.01 to a LUXURY YACHT in GTA 5!” The title is actually rather non-indicative – it was another GTA V parkour challenge from Alex, featuring Gray doing three separate wall rides from hell in stages (first with two tracks moving in opposite directions, meaning that Gray had to dodge obstacles and make it through thumbnail holes coming and going; second with chunks of track and obstacles that went INVISIBLE periodically; third with a tube transfer into a wall ride by the water, having to go up, down, and across various obstacles without falling through any surprise gaps or missing a transfer or anything). The stages as they were originally created were impossible (Alex putting in stuff that Gray simply could NOT get past), but Gray was allowed to trade them out for stuff that worked better and would allow him to complete the board. For instance, some ramps coming up from behind him on the first level and smashing his car to hell? Trade one for a couple of dabbing guys that he could more easily make it through! A windmill that blocked his way on the second level? Trade it for two windmills in more favorable spots with the turbines going the “right” way. A damn WHALE leaping into his way on the third level? Trade it out for a pair of more easily dodged sharks! (Well, more easily dodged in theory, anyway. . .) It took a lot of trading and a lot of Gray Pain ™, but eventually Gray managed to complete every level and make it to the end. w000! Masochism wins again! XD
