crossover_chick: picture of Alice (Wonderland) in front of the swirling purple Wonderland tunnel (AMA: Alice down the rabbit hole)
I was hopeful it would be a nicer start to my long weekend, but no dice -- had an annoying commute in with cars constantly pulling out at the same time I was trying to pull out, an okay day at work (see below), and when I got home, we still didn't have a sink because the fucking replacement was bowed too. And the the people at Kohler just kept her on hold for ages before telling her "lol all sinks are like that." *rolls eyes* Mom managed to find one that would lie flat at a local Lowe's, but hilariously, the stupid basin doesn't come with a strainer -- you know, that little metal bowl with the holes that goes in the drain hole? That's gotta be ordered separately. We are all so done with this kitchen nightmare it's unbelievable. Never remodel your kitchen, it is never worth it.

Anyway -- let me go over the to-do list:

Work – It was mostly quiet, I must say – another day mainly doing duplicates – but near the end suddenly everybody wanted me for something (passing on messages for credit card stuff (in the last half hour of the day!), having me look up stuff that was confusing them, asking me about something I thought was resolved last month, things like that), and that plus my period meant I was pretty wound up when it came time to go. Ugh. Not the best way to start a long weekend, as I have previously stated!

To-Do List

1. Get in a workout: Check – a little later than I wanted, but I did get on the bike and ended up watching the following –

A) “Remember ALICE: MADNESS RETURNS?” by Kevduit – I’ve seen this pop up in my Recommendeds a couple of times and decided to check it out as a one-off. Turns out it was this Kevduit guy blind-playing the first level of the game, apparently not realizing it was a sequel or anything. It was pretty amusing watching him react to the weirdness that is A:MR and comparing it to the Disney stuff he was more familiar with. XD And his opening made me realize 2011 really WAS a good year for video games – I already knew Portal 2 came out the same year, but so did the original release of Skyrim apparently! Huh! Wild.

B) “8 Types Of Artists To Play As In The Sims 4” by Petey Plays It – yup, back to him afterwards for a quick video on – well, see the title. XD Basically it was a list of ideas for turning your Sims into more specific artists than just “doodle whatever you want on the easel or the digital sketchpad” – you could paint landscapes! Houses! Supernatural creatures! More standard portraits! Alien worlds! Festivals and fairs! Anything that can be referenced, basically. A good list, but it mostly just reminded me I have to get Victor the damn digital sketchpad at some point. XD

2. Continue writing “Londerland Bloodlines: Downtown Queensland”: Check – Venus has given Alice the scoop on being her silent partner (basically, free money whenever she checks in) and Boris’s deal (Russian mob boss, generally surrounded by bodyguards); Alice has consulted with Wonderland to confirm the job’s a good idea; and now she’s on her way to commit a stealthy assassination! And wondering if boozed-up blood would have an effect on her (yes, actually, it would). So when I return to this world, it’ll be time to sneak back into the Empire Arms hotel for ANOTHER murder. This poor hotel is gonna get SUCH a bad reputation on the 2004 equivalent of Yelp. . .

3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Four-fifth’s check – I’m still down one Kevin video, but I’ve caught up with everything else! So that’s good, at least.

A) Started this afternoon by catching up Sunday’s long Call Me Kevin video – “The Simpsons: Hit & Run, GTA for kids!” Which – you know, what, that’s actually kind of accurate, in that if you cause enough property damage and hit enough NPCs, the police WILL come for you GTA-style and fine you for a bunch of your coins (collected to buy new rides and outfits). And the game itself allows you to control different characters for different missions, though it’s generally one character per “level” instead of letting you swap freely. And the plot. . .well, maybe if it was a GrayStillPlays parkour board, I could see “new cola in town proves to be alien goo created by Kang and Kodos to mind control the citizens of Springfield and get them to act even weirder to help with the TV show they’re secretly filming for the citizenry back on their home world” being a good GTA plot. XD As it is, you spend most of your time going around with the Simpson family (and Apu, due to him being the guy selling the new Buzz Cola) doing various missions that involve ramming into other cars to destroy them; ramming into other cars to collect the things they drop; just collecting shit around the world; racing various NPCs to places; and notably hauling ASS at the end to blow up Kang and Kodos’s spaceship with nuclear waste. Everything ends up connecting with each other eventually (for example, Marge getting Homer’s help to beat up the truck delivering a new violent video game so she can grab all the copies eventually leads to Bart helping Professor Frink with his new robot dinosaur because the monster is apparently powered by the only copy of the game Marge missed or something), but it’s just very weird and very chaotic. And even more so with Kevin playing, thanks to his insistence on ramping over people’s roofs and getting stuck in random corners and kicking every NPC he had to speak to and whatnot. XD Fun times if you like terrifying 3-D versions of the Simpsons characters in funny costumes running around collecting roadkill or smashing through the local nuclear power plant after “Black Van Pizza Delivery” vans!

B) Then it was onto today’s uploads for a double dose of SKETCHY from Josh Way –

I. “Commando Cody” – Josh sketches out Commando Cody, whose shorts appeared in one of the earlier seasons of MST3K! Specifically, he did a quick sketch of the original bucket-headed Cody in all his low-budget glory, then followed it up with a sketch of a revised, cooler-but-still-retro Cody! Who had a nicer helmet, Han Solo pants, and a control panel on the front of his jacket that looks like a three-prong plug socket. XD I mean, personally I think it suits him, but still – not the effect Josh was going for, I wager! Ah well. . .

II. “Wakanda... Forever??” – Josh sketches out a pair of portraits of characters from the Wakanda Forever movie, M’Baku (though Josh was pretty sure the reference he used was from the FIRST movie) and Nakia. He wasn’t fully happy with either (especially Nakia, as he found Lupita Nyong’o’s face, particularly her mouth, difficult to capture), but he did as good a job as he could, and he was only too happy to talk about how much he loves drawing faces again, so. . . *shrug* Better than I could do!

C) And finally we had GrayStillPlays with “When becoming king is 1000x more difficult,” aka Gray plays The Murder of King! A puzzle not-mobile game (it explicitly had keyboard controls) where you control somebody flying around with a propeller hat whose job it is to stab the king in his bed. Blocking you in this task are obstacles ranging from buttons that open or close various temporary walls (often activated by placing cheese upon them); random lasers of various types; cannons that shoot blue and red hadokens at you (the blue ones just shove you back against the nearest wall, while the red ones kill you); and – just occasionally – guards. XD It was a very silly game, with puzzles ranging from “surprisingly easy” to “Alex could make a good parkour out of this.” XD But Gray managed to beat it, as he is the Determinator, at least when it comes to video games. Good work, Gray!

4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – just spent the last half-hour or so writing up a post for tomorrow on Victor Luvs Alice that I’ve been meaning to get done for a while, about how much I love my Valicer OT3. :) I just – it really does make me happy, the Victor/Alice/Smiler stuff that’s been bouncing around in my head, and I felt like Thanksgiving was a good opportunity to share it. Dunno how coherent it really is, but it’s meant to be kind of stream-of-consciousness, so – as long as it gets the message across!

I have to admit, doing that post about Valicer and how much I love it did make me feel better. :) And now it's time to wrap things up and hopefully have a better Thanksgiving. Night all!
