Okay If Chilly Thursday
Dec. 1st, 2022 11:44 pmYeah, weather has gone back to "pretty damn cold," which I am not fond of but it IS officially December now, so. . . *shrug* Gotta live with it! Anyway, my day:
Work – Quieter day, with a lot of Christmas stuff around the office – all the decorations are up now, thanks to my coworkers. But my day was mostly duplicates and other roster maintenance. *shrug* At least it wasn’t a super-stressful start to the month! We’ll see how long that holds – at least most of my weeks going forward are short!
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – back on the bike again tonight to finish off the last chunk of “High Rollin’ Oxventure: When Worlds Collide!” After a few inconvenient GM questions about Shatter’s range and radius and all that, Dob was able to successfully smash a giant hole in the floor under the guards. Three of them immediately dropped onto the furnace floor (causing the goblin working on that floor to groan in annoyance), while the fourth managed to hang onto the edge –
At least until Nova stepped up with her sentient sword-patron Tiangong and used it to blast the guy with a Hexblade Cursed Eldritch Blast! Boosted of course by Dob’s Bardic Inspiration (boosted in the wrong way, but everyone decided not to split hairs no matter what chat said XD). The guy went flying into the pit, joining his brethren. After a turn to decide what they were doing with the union workers (Corazon was all for getting them to throw themselves into the flames with the guards to get rid of all witnesses, but the reactions of the others made him again walk it back to “moral test!” and keep them as his human shield), Rosemeadow stepped up and – after realizing her intended “Disney Princess” spell of Plant Growth only provided her with normal plants and not the magical tie-the-guards-in-place ones she wanted – screamed that she was an INDEPENDENT RETAILER and stomped her mighty hooves –
Making the earth FUCKING ERUPT and just outright killing three of the guards. And the goblin, who got plastered against the ceiling by an earth spike. Dob and Corazon quickly began trying to see if any of the union workers had spotted that and started trying to spin it as the goblin literally throwing himself on the gears of the machinery. All the union workers were adamant that they themselves would not be doing that. XD One guard DID survive the revenge of the ground and managed to shoot poor Rosemeadow with a musket – it only did six points of damage, though, leaving the guy open to Sentry attempting to roast him with her homebrew fire lance (basically a big old fantasy flamethrower that Nova welded onto her). Hilariously, while she more than got him, she did NOT roll enough damage to kill him! Just smoke him up and make him smell good. And so combat came around to Corazon again, who burst so dramatically from the group of union workers that he managed to injure ALL OF THEM (seriously, Johnny rolled a die to see and got a twelve, the exact number of workers) and jumped down into the pit to murder the sole remaining guard with his cutlass.
And then he immediately tried to name himself king of the union. XD Nova was like “this is NOT how that works,” and the minute he learned the best he could be was union rep, he declined because it sounded like a lot of work. XD Rosemeadow summoned up some snacks for everyone to celebrate the union; she, Dob, and Sentry all gave lots of hugs; and the toilet barrier was hastily rendered unusable. XD The new friends all decided to exchange some gifts to remember each other by – Sentry gave Dob and Corazon some flowers from her vine-hair; Rosemeadow gave Dob some exfoliating stuff and Corazon some nice shampoo for his hair; Nova handed out copies of her papers on quantum mechanics (Dob’s expression was PRICELESS); Dob ended up giving Rosemeadow the literal shirt off his back because of how much she liked his scent; and Corazon gave out bottles of grease. XD Yeah, sounds about right.
And so the adventure ended with the High Rollers being gently loaded into a box and nudged into the portal to go home, and the Oxventurers being kicked around the warehouse for a bit before being knocked through the portal. Also, because the fate of the lemur, Corazon Jr., wasn’t discussed, Corazon may have a new ship’s lemur in future episodes of the Oxventure. XD Everyone thanked each other for a great time – it’s nice to see that the Oxventure brand of chaos ended up meshing so well with the High Rollers! Johnny seemed genuinely worried for a bit before the Rollers started showing just how much they were into this nonsense. XD And come on, it’s always great to see some version of Amazon get theirs for the way they treat their workers.
2. Continue writing gift fics: Check – I was a touch stuck for a minute because of a lack of prompts (because I’ve still got to ask some people what they want, and the person who’s fic I worked on today, Newt, didn’t actually HAVE any prompts off the top of their head to give me), but after looking at Newt’s recent reblogs, I came up with an idea involving his old favorite fandom Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and a little bit of What We Do In The Shadows. Basically, I just wrote a little over four hundred words on Dirk nearly becoming a vampire meal, being saved by his friends/partners Todd and Michael, and then insisting they GO to the vampire house because clearly this is one of his universe-given cases. Todd is insisting they get crosses and other vampire repellents first. XD Hopefully he finds it amusing once it’s all cleaned up and ready for posting!
3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check! Thanks to a low upload day, I am all caught up on my Subs, and I even got some bonus videos in! Nice. :D Again, don’t expect it to last past tomorrow, but nice. :p
A) First up, a video I found on tumblr from Smiler Lore Archivist CablesTwisted – “The Smiler Game – All AR Points!” A look at the promotional game for The Smiler that came out on tablets as marketing for the coaster, but was removed from app stores in 2015. CablesTwisted still has a copy they’ve gotten to work on an ancient tablet, and got the Alternate Reality stuff (where you could scan things like the park map and certain symbols around the park to get cool stuff popping up on the tablet and unlock elements of the virtual Smiler coaster you were building in the app) to work by scanning his computer screen. Including high-quality virtual ride elements by scanning the symbols they were associated with, a peek inside one of the staff entrances to the Ministry of Joy (the shadowy force behind The Smiler), and other interesting things! :) Always neat to see this kind of stuff.
B) Then it was over to the Watch Later for another OXBox list video – “7 Games That Rewarded You For Doing the Right Thing!” Andy, Jane, and Mike took us through a list of games with real, tangible rewards for someone who is kind at just the right moment. Help someone out in the wilderness in Red Dead Redemption 2? They might just offer to pay for a nice gun upgrade from the gunsmith! Rescue a little wolf-dog puppy in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain? He grows up into a back-flipping knife-wielding companion dog you can use – and don’t get us started on what happens if you decide to spare Quiet after her boss fight! Spare Patches halfway through his boss fight in Elden Ring? Well, he’s still gonna be Patches, but he WILL also give you a look at his shop, which includes an item that can be used to briefly pin down bosses that are MUCH harder than him, so. . .worth. XD Kindness is good, sometimes!
C) Then it was over to the Subs for today’s SKETCHY – “Ludwig Von Drake,” the first in Josh’s new “Duck Advent Calendar,” where he will be drawing a cartoon duck a day straight through Christmas (and then maybe some honorable mentions in the week before New Year’s). Because the dude loves cartoon ducks. XD And Ludwig is a particular favorite because he’s a Disney Duck (one of the best kinds), and he’s drawn in the slightly more scratchy “pencil drawing Xeroxed to the cell” style that Josh really loves (he’s basically a huge fan of 60s and 70s Disney animation as a result, especially stuff like 101 Dalmatians). Not exactly a fan of the COLORS of that era, but his Ludwig came out well. I’m looking forward to the rest of his “Duckember.” :p
D) And finally we had some GrayStillPlays, of course –
I. “When you turn a zoo into a prison” – yesterday’s upload, featuring the game Happy Animals! A cute mobile game about running a zoo that features feeding the hippos by tossing things into its mouth (usually watermelons, occasionally anvils); playing Fruit Ninja with the apples and bananas you’re preparing for the other animals; doing an “obstacle runner” game where you’re a monkey collecting and stacking other monkeys to get to a bunch of bananas; feeding the elephants by doing “key pull” puzzles (and not letting the food fall out the holes in the side); and feeding the crocodiles – first by hand, and then by crane system because Gray kept letting the zoo keepers be dragged to their deaths. XD It was a weirdly wholesome and fun-looking game from old Gray, I gotta say – one of those mobile games I would actually be half-tempted to try myself!
II. “Jumping MOON RAMP in GTA 5 #shorts” – today’s short, featuring Gray testing out cars on a big old ramp to see which ones would let him reach escape velocity in GTA V! This one may be made up of clips from an older video, since I recall the “Jumping MOON RAMP” thing as a title before, but it was still fun to watch Gray jumping cars in an attempt to yeet himself from the game. XD
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – four ask replies and a submission “starter” featuring a bizarre meme for old Valice Multiverse! XD Good times~
And that's about it! Plus my friend Nebby just gave me a prompt for her gift fic, and I just answered all of Moose's messages, so I'm good on both of those fronts, yay! Now I just have to figure out why my side is hurting me now. >( And get some sleep -- night all!
