Long Hot Friday
Jun. 2nd, 2023 11:52 pmWe either broke a record heat-wise or got near one, depending on where you measured the temperature -- and now the temperature is rapidly dropping again as we prepare for a downright chilly weekend. Seriously, can the weather just not stay consistent for five minutes? *shakehead* Anyway, here's how my day went --
Work – Another very quiet day – only calls I got were from two telemarketers. I did the GL, worked on duplicates and deceased, and tried not to be too bored. Slow Fridays are always the hardest because the weekend is RIGHT THERE. . .but I got through it, and now I – get to clean my room tomorrow! XD Though I also plan to binge-watch some more OXBox RE4 Remake episodes, so there’s that too.
Oh, and no beanbags today – we had rain and thunderstorms JUUUST clipping us to the north, and the sky was looking pretty funky, so we took a pass on that. And I doubt we’ll be doing it tomorrow either, as it’s going to be generally “ick” for the next few days. . .
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – final night on the bike this week, final night with Oxventure Presents: Blades in the Dark – “A Crimsnight Carol!” Having tracked down her father (and stopped Edvard from studying his pants too closely to determine if he has snake hair all over – Edvard was just about to try seducing the guy to find out), Lilith surprised him mid-anecdote and had a heartwarming reunion with him while he called for the good wine to be brought out. Edvard tried to point this out to Screws as an example of how beautiful Crimsnight could be –
Only to find Screws already at the buffet, stealing as much food as he could get in his pockets. He marched him back over to watch the beautiful reunion, only for Screws to get distracted by the fact they were bringing out the good wine and having the waiters pour him a full punchbowl of the stuff to sell later. Annoyed, Edvard dragged Screws along to watch through the window as Lilith reunited with her mother (who had been very sad to have her daughter away at school during Crimsnight) – Screws, naturally, fixated on the fact that Lilith’s family had dared to put in double glazing on said window. Edvard’s attempts to try and beat the lesson of love and togetherness into him by smashing his head into the window only got Screws to say that love just causes pain, look at how upset Lilith’s mother was, and also that he was dropping the reward to 3.5 Coin for all this getting-beaten-up. This did not stop Edvard from assaulting him. XD The Ghost of Crimsmas Present returned around this time, ready to send everyone back because, you know, on a schedule here – Lilith quickly insisted she had not yet learned a lesson until her brother walked in and she was able to give him a hug (aka Luke decided not to be mean and let Lilith see her WHOLE family). She also tried to point out that Screws had learned nothing, but the Ghost of Crimsmas Present was rapidly aging and insistent that he’d done his job. Which, let’s be fair, not HIS fault Screws is like that!
And so the gang was sent back, landing back in Screws’s room absolutely soaked in the wine from the fruit bowl. Screws’s promptly started wringing it out of Edvard’s jacket. XD He reminded them that they weren’t getting paid until they took care of the third spirit, and so the gang settled down to very awkward small talk, where they tried to ask Screws what he was doing for Crimsmas, getting him to admit he had a nephew, Fred, who he occasionally sent money to. Edvard tried to tempt Screws into attending Crimsmas lunch with him by pointing out it was food paid for on someone else’s dime, but Screws was unconvinced, and in fact decided to make a note to cut Fred out of his will later. XD
Fortunately, it was around this time that the spooky robed figure of The Ghost of Crimsmas Yet To Come showed up! After determining which of the group needed the lesson (by Lilith and Edvard essentially throwing Screws at him), he swept them all away to the future, to a lonely graveyard where he pointed to a lonely pauper’s grave hidden between two other graves. This was, of course, Screws’s own grave. . .except he was DELIGHTED to see he’d been buried with so little fanfare, as flowers and tombstones are so expensive, you know! But there was ONE thing that he wanted to check, and got Lilith and Edvard’s help in digging up his own grave (mostly by promising them that he’d bump the reward back up to 4 Coin if they did) and opening his coffin. Seems the guy had specifically requested that he be buried with all of his wealth. . .
And was horrified to find just a lonely skeleton and no gold or Coin in there with him. Edvard explained (while kicking Screws’s skeleton to pieces) that since he treated everyone so poorly in life, no one respected his wishes after he was dead – Fred wanted an UNCLE, damn it, not just the occasional meager allowance and a long pause! A baffled Screws attempted to process this information and combine it with what he knew about the world –
And thanks to a poor roll, ended up going up to the Ghost of Crimsmas Yet To Come (smoking against a tree), blaming HIM for this, and shoving him over. The Ghost of Crimsmas Yet To Come did not take this well, getting up twice as tall with glowing eyes and pulling out a bone scythe to start chopping people. Edvard managed to successfully hide behind an angel statue and start loading electroplasmic shot into a revolver; Screws tried to flee, only to trip and fall into his own coffin; and Lilith desperately slapped on her spirit mask and tried to Attune to the Ghost, to explain that they’d keep working on Screws – or, at the very least, to plead for her and Edvard’s lives. Luke told her that he’d need a six for her to pull this off –
Cue Lilith rolling double sixes – a CRIT! She managed to successfully explain to Yet To Come what was going on and sympathized with his grunts as he showed her the worksheet and how everyone was behind schedule now. She said that they’d keep working on Screws, and Yet To Come chose to spare them for now, yanking open the coffin in which Screws was hiding and telling him (in a voice that started out as spooky and quickly transitioned, as everyone couldn’t stop laughing, to Yoda) that he had a year to change his ways and learn a lesson, otherwise NEXT Crimsnight, he’d be back to chop him in half with his scythe. And to show he was serious –
HE NIPPED OFF SCREWS’S FINGER. Cue the gang being sent back to Screws’s room with Screws bleeding and screaming. Edvard made him a tourniquet, prompting a puzzled Screws to ask why – then answer his own question with “oh, right, I haven’t paid you yet.” Edvard said, no, he just wasn’t about to let a fellow human being bleed out from a finger wound (“Although you haven’t paid me yet”), and bluffed that he’d come to see Screws as a friend. Screws, actually moved by this, declared Edvard his BEST friend and declared they should all go to Edvard’s and have a lovely supper on Edvard’s family’s coin. XD Edvard quickly talked him around to going to Fred’s and buying a lovely goose to bring to the supper (along with the wrung-out wine) – Screws got the criminal he’d beaten nearly to death to go and fetch it, and the group spent a nice if kind of awkward dinner at Fred’s. XD Lilith and Edvard then left with their promised Coin, and Screws – well, Luke rolled to see how well he changed his ways. . .
And promptly burst out laughing, because, yeah. Andy revealed that yes, next year, Screws got chopped in half by a bone scythe, and the episode ended with everyone just cracking up over Screws not being able to keep it, or himself, together for a lousy year. Merry Christmas, everybody! XD Aahhh, I do love this series. . .next week, though, it’s back to Oxventure proper to start catching up with the Live Shows between “Legacy of Dragons” and their next arc, “Extinction!”
Oh, and since I did have a little time at the end of my workout, I watched another video on The Smiler game, showing off what a ride on the fully upgraded Smiler looks like in the game – good stuff, especially since I’m starting to work on some Smiler Otherland ideas! The game cutscenes and such are proving inspiring. . .
2. Write the first draft of Nebby’s Gift Fic: Check – Nebby is one of my tumblr friends, and the one whose birthday comes before Gigs’s (June 22 to June 30), so I wanted to be sure to get hers started this week. She gave me three potential ideas to choose from, and the one that grabbed me was having Canny Tim and Dan from the MediEvil game she likes so much summarize one of her fanfics (about Dan’s VERY CHAOTIC promotion to Captain of the Guard – involved elephant dragons, sky pirates, and Dan being a very reluctant, very accidental hero) to the Ball & Socket crowd (with Kiya cracking up in the background). So that’s what I wrote up! :) It’s just a silly bit of fun with Dan trying to tell the story (and convince everyone it’s not made up) with Tim while Bonejangles and Lizzie make comments, Kiya nearly collapses laughing, and Woden yells out corrections and heckles. XD Hopefully she’ll like it once it’s in post-worthy form!
3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check – game night ran VERY long (though I did manage to win “The 80s Game” with a combination of trivia knowledge and sheer luck), so we just had the one video tonight: GrayStillPlays and “Dunking from orbit in Roblox,” playing Super Dunk Simulator in Roblox! You know the drill – Gray finds a goofy game in Roblox (in this case, a game where you dunk basketballs repeatedly to gain power and wins, trade those in for upgrades to get to higher and higher hoops, and eventually progress up the hoop “ladder” to the Clouds, Space, and Heaven before finding the Elemental Kingdom of Gold); Gray throws a bunch of money at the problem to buy various gamepasses (allowing him to auto-pick-up all the little power and win blobs around the court, auto-dribble for more power, and get an army of pets to increase his stats); Gray shows off just how ridiculous the game gets once you have all these upgrades (by the end of the video, his number of wins was in the QUADRILLIONS as he was earning so many for each dunk); Gray keeps making the numbers do the bad things until he’s the top of the leader board and then falls out of the Elemental Kingdom of Gold and probably out of the map to end the video. ...Okay, that last bit was fairly specific to THIS video, but you get the idea. XD Oh, Gray being absolutely delighted by how stupid the numbers get when you multiply them and then multiply them again with a combination of money and “rebirths” is weirdly adorable, in its own way. Even as it makes me want to see Alex bring back the super-jump in GTA V. XD
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – pretty simple stuff tonight, with just the one ask reply for Valice Multiverse. I’ll take it!
*nods* Not too shabby, even if work is kinda boring these days. . .at least next week I will have less of it, between an early release on Monday because of a graduation at the cathedral, and a half-day for me on Thursday thanks to being unable to reschedule a dentist appointment. And as for tomorrow, since it's the weekend after a patch, I'm gonna take the day off Sims 4 (I actually think most of my mods are fine, but I might as well give them every opportunity to update) and instead focus on cleaning my room; catching up on all the OXBox RE4 Remake episodes I missed; and doing a bit of writing (either more "Londerland Bloodlines" or some private AU stuff, depending on what I'm feeling). Trying to keep it simple so I can end this weekend with a proper sense of accomplishment! And a less-cluttered Watch Later. :p Night all!
