Slightly Cranky Monday
Jun. 17th, 2024 11:48 pmI was in a bit of a bad mood for a large portion of the day (a combination of being forced into a tutorial for something I didn't actually want to try due to a mis-tap in one of my phone games, being surprised by Mom wanting to go out minigolfing on my Wednesday off while I was leaving for work -- which I wouldn't be annoyed about if it wasn't forecast to be the start of a heat wave -- and probably just not getting enough sleep the night before), which wasn't great -- fortunately it lifted as the evening went on, and I ended up having a fairly productive afternoon --
Work – A very quiet Monday back at work, with not a lot to do – I did the GL, I looked at some online obituaries to determine if we had the people in our system, I tried to investigate a returned piece of mail, I got annoyed with our processing company not answering our questions about some missing mail, and I put on some Easter at the end of the day. *shrug* It is fucking slow right now. We’ll see if tomorrow is a little more exciting!
Beanbags Update: Despite it looking like it was going to rain all throughout our game (and then clearing up again right afterwards), we got through our usual three rounds – and while I did pretty awful in the first couple of games, a surprise eight and both my parents flubbing their final throws in the final game got me a win. XD Dad was otherwise the clear champion of the day, while Mom did decently well up until the end. Final scores were me 3-3-W; Dad W-W-2; Mom 2-2-3. We’ll see if things shake out differently tomorrow!
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – another night on the bike, another half-hour or so with the GrayStillPlays compilation video “I spent the last 4 years breaking bones repeatedly!” I finished off the section on the superhero stickman bone-breaking game (in which Gray did not cease his torment of all the various super-sticks until he’d unlocked some fun ways to get infinite points and also all available boards) and started the section on Stair Dismount, a game that I’d actually completely forgotten Gray played! (Which isn’t particularly surprising, since Gray has played a LOT of bone-breaker games, and the biggest period for them was I believe back in 2020, before he seriously got into the GTA V stuff.) This game is all about smashing a crash test dummy through a variety of fun bone-breaking boards, like down a busy road or off the prow of the sinking Titanic. Past!Gray was enjoying it very much when I stopped for the night. XD We’ll finish this off tomorrow, then start pedaling our way through the next GSP compilation!
2. Continue editing “Londerland Bloodlines: Downtown Queensland”: Check – got another page done on Chapter 2, covering Hannah explaining about how she got sick after her mysterious night with Jezebel Locke – before dying rather horribly right in front of poor Victor. Who, naturally, was rather shaken by the whole thing. :( Alice, for her part, has decided it’s her mission to avenge this unfortunate escort and is currently focusing her energy on finding out where exactly to find Jezebel in the Empire Arms Hotel that Hannah mentioned before dying. . .and she’s just about to stumble across a handy appointment book in Hannah’s closet that should help her in that quest. . .
3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check – just GrayStillPlays tonight, with “You have two choices but both are terrible,” aka Gray plays Love And Choices! This is one of those mobile “puzzle” games where you are presented with various scenarios, and have to make the correct choice – in this case, you are helping your girl Jess live her best life in the big city, finding love and working on her house and whatnot. The main problem is that the big city that Jess lives in is ABSOLUTELY BONKERS. Like, the very first choice you have to make is how to help her deal with a cobra that’s threatening her in the back seat of the taxi she’s taking to try and get to a fancy party, and things periodically got weirder from there. Gray had to help Jess get dressed up for the fancy party (he chose the most Doc Brown-esque hairstyle he could); figure out how to escape the world’s most giant angry pigeon while going on a run (after he’d stopped laughing, of course – the answer was a giant pigeon blow-up doll); deal with this dude Brad coming onto her after encountering him in the park (unfortunately the game would NOT let Gray just call him “Mr. Pointy Nipples” and be done with it); pick the right drink at the end of a run with Brad (the soda proved to have it out for both of them); fight for the right to keep dating Brad in a luchador match in Mexico (Gray, of course, had her come down on her opponent FROM THE TOP ROPE); get over a puddle in their way while on a camping trip with Brad (trying to pole-vault it just sent her to the underworld); deal with a corgi coming into the elevator while she was preparing for a hot date with another potential boyfriend (learning that petting it caused it to PEE SO MUCH IT HALF-FILLED THE ELEVATOR CAR); and find the best way to end the date with Other Potential Boyfriend (couldn’t go in for the kiss because that meant she planted her lips on unexpected rat butt). And that’s only a small representative sampling of the choices in this game. XD I hope Gray comes back to this one at least once more, because I get the feeling this is a game whose nonsense you can milk for an entire little miniseries here. XD
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – in fact, I was fairly busy on my Victor Luvs Alice blog tonight –
A) First, I reblogged a whole bunch of stuff off my dash (like a post about tagging your favorite female fictional characters – Alice was on there of course, along with Victoria and Emily, and my beloved bitch Adora Belle Dearheart from Discworld – and reblogging and commenting on a friend’s fanfic – in a fandom I’m not in, but I still read it and enjoyed it, so!) because, well, I’ve been feeling like I don’t always interact with my dash enough and I wanted to make up for that a bit
B) And second, in the actual Drafts section, I whipped up a rough draft for my idea of a Valicer “Three-Player American McGee’s Alice” AU, where the trio were childhood friends separated shortly before the fire (the Van Dorts and Dr. Kelman reacted poorly to them having a pretend group wedding where both Alice and Smiler married Victor), and then end up reuniting when Victor learns Alice is in bedlam, goes to visit her in Rutledge, and discovers Smiler there with their father (though they didn’t know Alice was a patient at the time). Leading to Victor and Smiler, via mysterious means, getting dragged into the events of the initial game along with Alice! I enjoy the idea of the AU, especially since it builds on a Valice idea I’ve already done, but I’m not entirely sure how to do the Alice: Madness Returns portion of Alice’s canon. Like, I KNOW the trio has to take down Bumby, but am I involving Victoria and Emily (and thus Barkis) in the mess? And if so, how? Decisions, decisions. . .
Not bad, not bad. Have to see if I can keep riding that productivity train tomorrow, especially since I have a gift fic to prep for posting this weekend. . .incidentally,
gigs_83, do you have any requests for your birthday fic on the 30th? I don't have anything listed in my doc so far. Let me know when you can!
And now, I am going to endeavor to get off a little earlier to try and get some more sleep. Night all!
