crossover_chick: Victor sitting in a coffin looking depressed (CB: I has a sad :()
Sooo, Mom had to take Dad to the emergency room this morning, because despite taking all the laxatives, he still had a blockage and was still having dry heaves this morning. And after a bevy of tests, they had to do surgery to remove said blockage. *wince* Fortunately it went well and they were able to put him back together, it sounds like -- we'll see where things go from here, I guess! But yeah, wasn't exactly a pleasant day, as you might imagine. *grimace* Fucking hell... I guess we should just be grateful things weren't worse! *sigh* Anyway, I was on my own most of the day, and I got through my to-do list just to keep my mind off things best I could --

Tumblr: Very glad it was Wednesday, and thus I only had Victor Luvs Alice to worry about today! Anyway, I spent my time here before lunch:

A) Catching up on my dash, as I do

B) Cleaning up my rough draft of a post about the trio’s various custom traumas (“Overprotective” for Alice, “Phobia” (of the Void Sea) for Victor, and “Vessel” (for their god Mar-Mal) for Smiler) and how they come about

C) Doing a very rough draft of a “special abilities” post to go with the traumas post I finished off today

D) And doing another very rough draft of a post featuring my write-up of the Advocates cultists

So I have one finished post, and two others ready to be fleshed out. That’s not too shabby, I suppose. We’ll see how much, if anything, I can get done tomorrow!

Sims 4: After a little waffling about whether or not I wanted to play with things being what they were today, I did end up returning to my Wiped Windenburg save for about an hour to continue working on the Ministry of Joy nightclub. And today ended up being all about the unexpected fiddling...

A) Started off with something I said I was probably going to do at the end of my write-up yesterday – moving the stairs to the upper level back to a slightly more reasonable position on the first-level wall instead of leaving them shoved up against the bathroom! An act that would allow me to make the rooms up top a little smaller and thus make them feel less super-stretched-out. I thus got the stairs a little more centered on the wall, and prepared to stick the photo booth next to them to help fill in the gap between them and the bathroom –

And then I saw an unpainted section of wall in the inside corner next to the bathroom where the stairs had once gone. And I remembered, “Oh shit – part of the reason I put the stairs there was because I had one corner in the build where the black-and-yellow-stripes pattern broke and black touched black. Meaning if I move the stairs, I have to find a way to fix the pattern.” I pondered my options for a moment, trying to figure out exactly what I wanted to do…

B) And then went “well, if I make the downstairs one tile longer, then I’ll have another tile on the side wall there that I can paint yellow and thus unbreak the pattern! I mean, I already made it way bigger, so…” So I moved the bathroom back one tile (since I didn’t want to fuck with its size), then stretched out the main dance floor/bar area room to match up with it again (along with the balcony area above it). Which did indeed fix the pattern in the corner that I was worried about!

And broke it on the OUTER corner of the bathroom (extending into the dance/bar room), with yellow now touching yellow! Because I hadn’t properly considered the implications of my room stretch (which removed one black tile from the end of the short side wall against the bathroom and put it on the other end, by the DJ booth at the end of the dance floor – also removed one of the neon lights I’d put there the other day, but a little reversing of actions allowed me to save it by putting it somewhere else before doing the stretch). Fortunately, I realized that unfucking that bit was actually pretty easy – because the stripe pattern was interrupted ANYWAY on the back wall behind the DJ booth and the dance floor with that Moschino Stuff wallpaper that looks like spotlights. So all I had to do was reverse the pattern of yellow-and-black stripes on that side wall and move the neon lights over a bit so they were on the new black stripes. In retrospect, I probably should have just done that on the entire exterior of the bathroom to unfuck the pattern without fiddling around with the room size – but I’m kind of glad I did it the way I did simply because widening the balcony above made it so that the gap entrance to the hot tub area is a little wider now, and probably less prone to pathing problems as a result. So yeah, accidental benefit, yay!

C) Anyway – with my stripes unfucked, I moved onto fixing up the upstairs rooms – after taking a moment to fit in the photo booth and the High School Years “snack attack” vending machine (only one with a yellowish swatch) next to the stairs, that is. Because I had to fill in that new gap somehow! Once I’d gotten them how I wanted, I headed upstairs, put the nice glowing fence back around the new stairwell, then shrunk both the arcade room and the karaoke room by a few tiles so they didn’t look quite so stretched out and got the door between them as centered on possible on a yellow stripe of wallpaper (as it is a black door and thus wouldn’t look good on a black stripe). The karaoke room still looked a bit stretched, but I figured that I could solve that by adding a third line of couches for people to sit on to fill in the space a bit, along with another colorful rug under their feet to keep them cushy (had to mess around with resizing it and the original rug a bit, but I got them both at a decent size and nicely layered in the end). Once that was sorted, I turned my attention to the exterior, putting back up my “Exposed Filament” wall lights around the side and backs of the rooms, and rearranging the benches up there so three were lined up along the side of the karaoke room, and one behind the arcade room. Slowly coming together!

D) Speaking of lights, once the upstairs was in a bit better shape, I moved back downstairs to deal with the lighting situation down there! I did indeed move the new Moschino martini light behind the bars (it wasn’t too glowy after all), swapping the “glass of nectar” picture into the light’s old position behind the dining tables, then started fiddling with the spiral-esque rec center lights I was using for the rest of the build. After getting a couple of new ones to help light up the space, I ended up making all the ones I’d originally made small bigger again and arranging them in two rows of three lights each across the main part of the room (avoiding the dance floor for the moment, as I didn’t want them to wash out the neon lights on the side walls there), and two big lights in the arcade and karaoke rooms upstairs. This DOES light those spaces very well…

With the downside being those lights at their original size are BIG and take up a lot of ceiling space. I’m worried they’re gonna be clunky and get in the way while I’m trying to look at visiting Sims. *frown* Maybe what I should do is send the Valicer trio I have hanging out in this save over there so I can see how it works when actual Sims visit… Anyway, I resolved to worry about that later and set about filling in the dining/drinks area by the bar with another four-seater table –

E) And then I looked at the downstairs, frowned, and went, “Goddamn it, now it looks too BIG.” *sigh* Yes, I’d ended up getting a little overenthusiastic during my expansion efforts, and now I felt like I had a bit too much empty space at the front of the build. I thus resolved to pull the front in by two tiles, which would make the space a tiny bit smaller without fucking up my stripes. This involved moving the two upstairs rooms back a bit so I could adjust the upstairs balcony without any trouble; moving a bunch of stuff inward so I could safely pull in the front walls without everything getting deleted; pulling in those front walls and making sure the balcony lined up correctly; and then replacing everything where it was and restoring all the décor and other objects that got deleted when I changed the room size and did all my shuffling (notably, some of the pipes on the front facade; the counter with the Spa Day drinks tray on the front balcony; and the security camera over the front door). I also discovered that fucking with the room size yet again had removed the photo booth and the vending machine beside the stairs because it had changed the size of the gap between the stairs and the bathroom, and the new gap was too small to fit them. I thus moved the stairs back one tile (adjusting the fence up top, of course), crammed the photo booth back into its spot, then put the vending machine in front of the stairs – which actually lined it up better with the front of the photo booth anyway, so yay accidental benefits again. Oh, and I made sure the rooftop “room” was properly aligned with the tops of the arcade and karaoke rooms. And moved the outdoor trash bin over into the inner corner by the front door. And adjusted the placement of a few decorations so they were in better spots.

And THAT is where I stopped and said “no more” for the day, because I was DONE changing the size and position of everything in this place. XD Oh, I just cannot leave well enough alone sometimes, I admit… But I think I am FINALLY happy with how big it is (at least, I’m telling myself “don’t touch it again”), so all that remains is to make sure the place is appropriately filled out with activities and properly lit! Which will probably still take longer than anticipated, but I’m a lot closer to being done with this build than I was when I started! And that’s what’s important.

Writing: Had another solid day in the land of Valicer In The Dark –

A) I updated the master doc a little bit before lunch, with my new proper write-ups for Alice, Victor, and Smiler’s custom traumas, and updated my notes on the colors of electroplasm, life essence, and ghosts – basically, to justify the fact that Emily was a blue ghost (to match her coloration as a corpse), I’ve decided that saner ghosts all have a blue hue, while less-sane ones are more gray – they basically lose their color as they lose their mind. I’ve also made life essence blue, because it felt right and kind of goes with saner ghosts (who would be younger ghosts, closer to life) are blue. *nods*

B) Then, tonight, I edited another chunk of “Start At The Beginning...Sort Of,” with Alice telling Victor and Smiler about being sent to Rutledge Asylum after her time in Littlemore Infirmary – and being stunned by their shock and rage over her being sent to an asylum at nine years old. Mostly because no one, not even Nanny, had reacted like that before. The pair’s ire was cooled a little by the reveal that she really didn’t have any other place to go (no relatives to take her in, and Nanny went from child-care to hooking post-fire thanks to Radcliffe, meaning she didn’t really have an appropriate place to raise a child), but they’re still not happy about it – or the fact that she spent ten years there. Weird having people care about you, huh, Alice? And Smiler’s about let slip something that suggests they know more about growing up in an asylum than they’re letting on…

YouTube: Well, the day being what it was, I wasn’t in the mood for much YouTube, and so I just watched the latest from GrayStillPlays in my Subs – “Waterslides but they get bigger in GTA 5!” Gray taking on the waterslides again, with a quintet of challenges (each with its own set of cars) that Gray had to work his way through in order to get the win –

I. Dare Jump Waterslide – A pair of waterslide ramps leading into two fairly big jumps, with the second slide being a little deeper down into the water than the first – meaning, if you didn’t have the right vehicle, you were going to lose all your forward momentum. Gray’s vehicles for this challenge were a selection of various quads, most of which couldn’t even make the first jump (though a few got close) – in the end, it was, unsurprisingly, the amphibious quad which had the top speed (and the reverse capabilities) to make it through both ramps without losing any momentum.

II. The Infinite Waterslide – A twisted-up yellow waterslide in I believe what was supposed to be the infinity symbol, or as close as they could get – Gray had 18 seconds to get through it. After a couple of initial runs with his quad, Gray immediately went stupid by using the giant arena car (the one with the cage that often has foodstuffs jammed into the back of it) –

And found that it slid really well! Not only that, but while he didn’t complete the twists in the 18 seconds, when he hit the wall at the end, he bounced over it, meaning he got to cheat the challenge with no consequences! Forgot to put an invisible wall there, eh, Alex? XD Maybe you’ll remember for next time!

III. Clogged Half-Loop Waterslides – A set of five half-loop waterslides where Gray had to leap from slide to slide, knocking an increasing number of balls out of the way so he could keep his rhythm. The main trouble he had here was keeping himself straight so he could land each jump! After some initial failures from the arena car and everyone’s favorite failbox the Sherp (which was simply too wide), Gray found some success with Mom’s Smart Car, but the true winner of the challenge was the Power Wheels Quad. Granted, it still took quite a few tries to complete, as it DID have a tendency to land badly, but with a lot of careful lining up and a good dose of luck, Gray eventually took it all the way to the end!

IV. Waterslide Loop Jumps (Complete With Weebmills) – A trio of looping waterslides that Gray had to go around then jump between – and in the middle of each gap was one of Alex’s patented Weebmills, ready to slice him for breakfast. Once again, the trick with this one was to land straight so you could keep your momentum and not go flying off into the water – a task made more difficult by the sheer size of the gaps between loops. And those damn Weebmills. Once again, Gray found some success with Mom’s Smart Car, which had a decent turn of speed and often could make the jumps, but it just didn’t have QUITE the oomph necessary, so the actual winner of this challenge, was the Racing Sprunk Bug, which had a LOT of speed and the handling necessary to land the jumps more often than not.

V. Giant Rotating Half-Loop Waterslide + 4th Of July Soon So I Added Fireworks (Survive For 96 Seconds) – And finally, a giant half-loop waterslide that periodically did a full spin that could glitch an unlucky car through the floor of the slide if they weren’t in the air when the spin happened! And also there were two guys hanging out on hanging platforms near the top, shooting firework rockets across the pipe. Gray didn’t get a choice of vehicles for this one – he just had to make the Racing Sprunk Bug work again. And, fortunately, it did the job! Not perfectly – as usual, Gray had a few issues with lining things up whenever he came down from a jump, meaning he went off to the side a few times – but eventually he got the pattern down and was able to go around doing massive leaps into the sky and avoiding both the rockets and the rotation before coming down and hitting the teleporter to reach the win. :) We do appreciate a nice and summery torture board from the gang over at GSP Headquarters!

Workout: Back on the bike, back with the GSP Happy Wheels compilation “When you live a life of constant suffering!” Today featured such boards as Bike Dad and Tom Hardy having to survive a VERY violent deserted island (with spear-wielding children and off-screen volcanoes); Pogo Guy versus Sword-and-Butcher-Cleaver-Butterfly Hell (he EVENTUALLY got past the deadly flapping blades, only to discover there was no actual win – and also the course was designed for Segway Nixon); Segway Nixon stealing a diamond and having to make it past security and to his getaway car (an act made harder by the fact that he kept getting stabbed in the groin by swords); Bike Dad and Tom going through TABS Dynasty, taking on various Chinese warriors (and one ball-spitting dragon puppet); Baby Chaddicus the Mighty having to do a bit of rope swing parkour in the mines while playing Hide & Seek with Bike Dad (apparently he and Bike Mom were looking for Chad for YEARS); and Pogo Guy escaping from prison and killing a bunch of round-headed guards along the way (or watching as they just dropped down dead for no reason). Last ten minutes of this tomorrow, then it’s back to the Every Life Stage Challenge!

Other:

-->I found some form-fillable custom PDFs of the BITD playbooks someone made (on their site AD 1006) and have been playing around with the “Cutter” one to see if they’ll suit my purposes – it looks like it MIGHT, but the problem is, the PDF doesn’t display QUUUITE right in Firefox. I’ll have to see about getting a PDF program where I can play around with these properly, I think. I just like these versions of the playbooks because there’s plenty of space to write in custom friends and enemies, write in special abilities from other playbooks, make notes, check off XP and stats, etc, etc. I really would like to have something like this to help track my trio’s XP as they go through their different scores – we’ll see if I can make it all work!

-->Answered Moose’s latest crop of messages, as I wanted to get that done and it served as a good distraction from – you know, everything

At least I had a pretty productive day? *sigh* Would have preferred to get all of this done WITHOUT the whole "Dad's in the hospital" thing hanging over my head, of course... But you can only play the hand you are dealt. And now I should really see about going to bed -- obviously, big thing tomorrow is going to be visiting Dad in the hospital and see how he's doing post-surgery. My only other goals for the day are to get some more done on "Start At The Beginning...Sort Of," get in a workout, and maybe get a few YouTube videos out of the Watch Later. Anything else that happens is a bonus. *deep sigh* Night all!
