Tiring Thursday
Jan. 30th, 2025 11:52 pmMostly because I ran into some bullshit at work, as will be somewhat expanded on below --
Work – Bleh day – my coworkers were fortunately more into talking reality TV than politics behind me, but I stumbled across more credit card fuckshittery about midway through the morning, after finishing off my exceptions, and figuring out how deep THAT rabbit hole went took pretty much the rest of the day. With one break to set up a guy’s credit card pledge and a little roster maintenance once I’d gotten my novel of an e-mail about the whole mess written. *sigh* We’ll see if anything comes of it tomorrow, but fucking hell. Every time I think things are going okay with the credit card people...at least tomorrow’s Friday.
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – another night on the bike, another night with “Cooking with Reuben in Tiny Town Challenge! - Part 17” by James Turner! This second chunklet of his second episode saw Reuben:
A) Complete the Appliance Wiz aspiration to get the “Batch Cook” trait and thus get double the servings of anything he cooks with prepped ingredients! This took him most of the half-hour, as he had to do things like get a Lin-Z speaker to listen to music while cooking; cook six meals using six UNIQUE prepped ingredients (a task made a bit harder by the ghost hanging around and eating all his batter – he EVENTUALLY got it to leave); make Pleasantly-Unpleasant Waffles (which, interestingly, turned out to be a REAL money-maker at the food stall); improve his toilet and shower to up his handiness so he could upgrade his stand mixer to be speedier; and throw a dinner party and make waffles during it after reaching silver rank (which saw pretty much the entire town crammed into his tiny house eating spaghetti as he cooked waffles outside on his food stand XD). But he did it, and now he gets double platters of waffles and double pizzas, yay. :D
B) Get invited on a truly terrible date by a random woman who happened to have a crush on him, who James called “Agnes Crumplebottom Junior” as she happened to have Agnes’s hat (ah, townie fashion). Basically, James refused to put any effort into the date (beyond getting some french fries to snack on) as Reuben was already exhausted and starving, and ACJ didn’t really interact with him much beyond some token attempts at conversation halfway through, so James ended it early, and ACJ left saying “don’t call me.” And Reuben then promptly passed out on the floor of the lounge they’d gone to. XD So that relationship is going nowhere fast!
C) Keep selling food, and – after a rather bumpy start – finally start making some decent dosh from it! Enough to buy a pizza oven and a proper double bed, in fact. :) Learning how to make Pleasantly-Unpleasant Waffles seemed to be a turning point, as people were just lining up to buy a plate of the simultaneously most delicious and disgusting food item in the game – to the point that James was able to raise the markup back up to 300% and the plates were STILL flying off the table! Reuben was even able to take his show on the road successfully, parking himself outside someone’s (hilariously stupid – there was a giant window on the side of the BATHROOM) house in Evergreen Harbor and selling loads of food to loads of visitors. :) And when I left it, he’d just managed to successfully snag the alien quill fruit from the grocery stand in Finchwick, meaning he can grow alien fruit now and make “curious pizzas,” which James thinks will be an even better money-maker… We’ll see how this all wraps up, and if Reuben actually does earn enough to get a house bigger than a shoebox, tomorrow!
2. Continue working on “A Murder Shared Is A Murder Thirded”: Check – I started Chapter 2 today, with the trio arriving at Houndsditch and – after Smiler and Victor firmly denied Alice’s final offer to back out, and Alice got a little advice from her old friend and commander Gryphon – heading inside the back door and into the kitchen! Which Alice noted is a lot cleaner and more organized than it used to be when she was in charge of the meals. It seems that Victor was right to suppose Dr. Bumby had hired someone else in Alice’s absence...especially since I left off this part with someone going “Oh!” about their sudden presence in said kitchen...
3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Substitution Check – the only video in my Subs was another GrayStillPlays compilation, so instead I turned to my Watch Later list for entertainment! And while I got started later than I wanted (had to break up the fresh chocolate granola that Mom made earlier and put it in its container), I still managed to clear two videos –
A) “The Sims 4: CAKE DANCER, GRIM'S REDESIGN, NEW HOMES, & MORE! (January 2025 Patch Update)” by onlyabidoang! Abi’s look at everything the latest patch (but one; I think he did this video before the emergency “oops sorry for hiding all these clutter items” patch since he mentioned the bug at the end) brought with it! From the redesign of Grim to be a little more spooky and skeletal; to the updated townie houses in Willow Creek and Oasis Springs (in new saves, though all the updated houses are also in people’s Libraries); to the surprise ability to “revive” cowplants for $100 (it doesn’t actually bring the dead plant back to life, though – it instead makes it revert to a berry so you can grow it again); to the new bugfixes (and new bugs) brought along in the pack; to the items that will be available in the upcoming “Blast From The Past” log-in event! Though Abi had to use a mod to get access to those, as the event hasn’t actually started, and the usual cheat of “put all the items in a room and then upload the room to the Gallery” doesn’t work anymore, sadly. Anyway, there’s some neat-looking stuff, though I don’t know if any of it is enough to tempt me into trying to complete the event. Not even the big three-tier “surprise” cake, which does not come with its own dancer, despite the title. I thought Abi was going to reveal you could hire one after showing off a pair in his intro, but no dice – they’re just Sims he dressed up in appropriate outfits. XD Though he did identify the dance Sims do as they come out of the cake as the old Smustle dance from Sims 2 – I THOUGHT it looked familiar, but I couldn’t place it! Anyway, it was a good, thorough look at what the new patch hath wrought – thanks once again for your service, Abi! :)
B) “♦ Cake Dancer : Sims 1 vs Sims 4 - Mini Comparison” by The Red Plumbob! Speaking of cake dancers, Red Plumbob decided to quickly compare the original Sims version of the surprise cake to the version coming with the “Blast From The Past” event – with a special focus on the very, VERY saucy dancers you could get with the original. I’d forgotten how raunchy the first game could be sometimes! XD Anyway, Red Plumbob and the commenters agreed that the Sims version of the cake and all its various entertainers – Bunny, Chip, Jane the Gorilla, and El Viz – were the best, but Red Plumbob gave the Sims 4 variant some points for one, being added to the game for free (if as part of a limited-time unlockable event), and two, actually edible. And hell, even I don’t mind that you can have regular Sims hide in it and do the Smustle when coming out as a surprise – I just wish we had the OPTION to hire saucier dancers for it if we so chose! Let us have a little fun, EA!
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check and check, for a change –
Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) – Didn’t get a chance to do much here, but I did update the “Valicer Not-Incorrect Quotes Valentine’s Day” collection with some more ideas for the present exchanges that will feature in them! Namely, Smiler is getting Victor that “piano phone” from the 80s I reblogged once, and Victor is getting Smiler an antique alchemy kit; Alice is getting Victor a stuffed animal (tempted for it to be my own silver dragon Dougie, though it could be a dog, I’m still deciding), while Victor gets Alice a recreation of the Vorpal Blade; and while I’m still not sure what Alice and Smiler are getting each other (though I did just have the idea of Smiler getting Alice one of those checkerboard cake kits, since they figured she’d get a kick out of it), I think I want to lead into it with Alice asking if metamours usually get each other something, and Smiler being like “I think that depends on the relationship.” :P Always good to get your ideas down before they fade away into the ether!
Valice Multiverse – No activity over here still, so I threw my VITD Pets post into the queue just to have something on there. Might be relevant if I do more stuff with the VITD trio over there!
Yeah, can't say I didn't keep busy today! And now it is time for me to wrap things up and hit the sack, because I still gotta make it through Friday. *sigh* Night all!
