crossover_chick: gif with Doc and Marty trying to get out of being written into twisted AUs (Default)
Like, it wasn't perfect, but it was far from horrible, as I believe my write-up of the day shall show:

Work – An okay Thursday to end my personal work week – the morning was a little busier than I would have liked, with me having to juggle a few credit card calls (people either setting up new pledges or updating old ones) and looking up old pledge cards for my boss (have a bit of a problem with someone at a particular parish putting in fake pledges!), along with clearing up some old stuff out of my e-mail inbox. However, it quieted down after lunch, and I spent the rest of the day just doing roster maintenance, which was fine by me. And now I am out and free for four whole days, hooray~ Looking forward to it!

To-Do List

1. Get in a workout: Check – back on the bike, finishing off “Silas is back for the 2nd time in Tiny Town Challenge! - Part 25” by James Turner! The last chunklet of the episode was pretty much entirely building, with James doing his best to design Silas a nice house while regularly bemoaning the stupid For Rent glitch that prevents him from editing any roofs or removing any floors while in “regular” build mode, instead of “editing the whole lot with infinite money” build mode. (It is a stupid glitch, James, and one of the MANY reasons I will not be touching For Rent.) After much struggle and pain, he ended up building a photo studio and gallery area on the left that was mainly blue and white with some yellow accents (justifying the color scheme by explaining this would be “shared space” open to the community), and a much more yellow house with bright red roofs and fun Realm of Magic windows and whatnot to the right. He thought he was very much on the right track by the time he ended the episode (explaining that if he didn’t end the video there, he wouldn’t be able to edit and upload it anytime soon because the place he was temporarily staying at while his own home was renovated had much slower internet) –

But I saw the comments on this video, and I have to agree with this one by haliantha: “not the ikea next to the mcdonald’s” XD Yeaaaah, this episode featured a rare misstep by James, who did indeed build something that looked vaguely like an IKEA next to something that REALLY looked like a McDonald’s. Like, the bright yellow walls he chose paired with those red roofs? SUCH fast food vibes. XD Not even the plants outside and the bay window out the front could save it. So we’re all very lucky indeed that Silas got a Part Two to his second episode, where James could fix his mistakes! (After having Silas earn a little more money to finish off the renovations, of course – dude didn’t get to the Required $40K in this part, after all.) And looking at the thumbnail for the next video, the completed house is going to look a LOT better. Now I just have to resist the urge to build my OWN IKEA next to a McDonald’s for laughs… XD

2. Continue working on Multiamory March prompts: Check – though unfortunately it was one of those nights where I had to fight some with my brain to get my wording just right on the first story, meaning the writing portion of the evening took longer than expected. *grumbles* But –

A) I successfully edited “Day 22: Space,” my Valicer In The Dark story about Smiler talking with Alice about how they’ve made their lair into a real home, meaning I’m good to throw that into the queue for Saturday now. Hooray!

B) And I FINALLY wrote a story for “Day 27: Kink Negotiation,” which ended up being a Modern AU story with Victor, Alice, and Smiler discussing what they wanted out of their burgeoning hypnokinky relationship...or, more accurately, what they didn’t want, as Smiler and Victor saw how nervous Alice was and got her to admit that she was scared of them doing something that would make Victor not be Victor anymore. Leading to Smiler reassuring her that they’d already planned on giving Victor some safety suggestions to keep him from losing himself, and the trio getting ready to work on the wording of those to help calm her nerves. So that’s sorted. Double hooray!

Yeah – maybe less than I hoped to accomplish tonight (I wanted to edit an additional story if I could), but that is still some good work. Especially since it means I only have one last prompt to figure out – “Day 31: Morning Routine!” And I’m already thinking I might make that a Valicer In The Dark story – if only for the irony potential of doing that prompt for a verse that canonically does not have mornings. XD We’ll see if I lock that in tomorrow!

3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check – only the one Josh Way video in the Subs today (which is good, because, again, the writing portion of my evening took longer than expected): “The Electric State Movie Review!” Josh’s thoughts on a Netflix movie – the most expensive one made – about an alternate 1990s where the people of America are dealing with I guess the aftermath of a robot rebellion. Except in this world it was Walt Disney who pioneered robotics, and thus the movie has proprietary characters in it. Josh did not say if any Disney characters specifically were in it, but he did mention that the leader of the robot rebellion –

Was none other than Mr. Peanut. Yes, that Mr. Peanut. To my absolute shock, this was apparently not played for comedy. In fact, as per Josh, the whole movie is a sad, empty affair – competently done, but not entertaining or engaging at ALL. Like, how do you not make Mr. Peanut running a robot rebellion ENTERTAINING?! How?! Just – wow. *shakehead* Anyway, Josh could not find one nice thing to say about this movie (even noting that the fact that it was competently made stole from it the fun factor of an incompetently made bad movie) and was like “there’s no point, I wish the people who made this better things in the future.” So yeah – don’t give Netflix your views on this one!

4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check and check –

Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) – Got two things done over here today –

A) First, while on a look-through some of the poly content over on PolyamShips (the tumblr blog responsible for Multiamory March), I stumbled across a Star Wars sequel trilogy Poe/Finn/Rey gif set with a set of quotes that was absolutely fucking PERFECT for my own Valicer OT3 – specifically the Valicer In The Dark variant. And after going “AARRRGH WHY DO THEY ONLY EXIST IN MY HEAD WHY CAN’T I MAKE MY OWN GIFSET WITH THESE QUOTES” I reblogged the post into my drafts with a few tags complimenting the gif-maker’s skill and admitting I was trying REALLY HARD not to scream about how the quotes chosen fit MY OT3. XD I might post that sometime this weekend, possibly with a follow-up post where I ran about how the quotes are SO PERFECT FOR MY VALICER IN THE DARK TRIO AAARRRRRGGGH

B) And second, on a slightly saner note, I got a “rough draft” of the Day 22 post for Multiamory March set up in my queue – it’s a bit late to do the full post, I fear, but at least now it’s there for me to mess with tomorrow morning!

Valice Multiverse – Had one reply and one ask over here to deal with –

A) First, The Satirical Demon replied to my reply about him having heard of a specific version of trail mix being referred to as “gorp” during his time as a Boy Scout, saying that he couldn’t remember if his version had the “good old raisins and peanuts” (as per the supposed acronym) as it had been a while since his Scouting days. I said “fair enough, been a while for me too” (as I actually was a Brownie in the Girl Scouts for a bit when I was a kid – never progressed beyond that, though). I guess the mysteries of gorp shall remain mysteries!

B) And second, I had a long anon ask from someone who had discovered the existence of Hitler’s nephew, Willy Hitler – yes, a real person who really existed. I’d heard about him once before on QI – he was born in Britain as the son of Hitler’s half-brother and his wife Bridget. The anon was thrilled to discover Willy hated his awful uncle and ended up fighting against him as part of the US Navy in World War II, before changing his name post-war to “Stuart-Houston” for very obvious reasons. Inevitable High School!Alice was like “is all this true,” and Victor confirmed it, citing the same QI episode I watched...though he did have to mention that said episode revealed the guy named his first kid “Alexander Adolf.” And Smiler, looking up the guy’s Wikipedia page like I did, revealed that William actually worked in Nazi Germany for a time – as a banker and a car salesman, admittedly. And MAY have successfully blackmailed his asshole uncle into doubling his salary by threatening to sell embarrassing family stories to the press, but that line had [citation needed] at the end. He ended up fleeing Germany when Hitler tried to get him to give up his British citizenship in exchange for a high-ranking job, and William was like “that’s a trap.” He then ended up in America with his Mom thanks to William Randolph Hearst bringing them over to a lecture tour, only for them to get stranded when the war broke out. He didn’t actually join the Navy until 1944, after getting special dispensation from FDR. Basically, while he did end up on the right side of history, his life was somewhat more complicated than that anon made it seem, and I felt it important to report that!

So yeah, I'd say that was pretty good for your average Thursday. And now I'm going to work on wrapping things up online and trying to get to bed at a halfway-decent time for a change! (For a day off, that is.) Tomorrow, plans include editing more Multiamory March prompts and getting them in the Victor Luvs Alice queue if I can; playing either Sims 4 (and working some more on the Polyheart OT3 House) or Baldur's Gate III (and sending the gang out into the wider world again to seek out both Lae'zel and a shovel); getting in a workout; and keeping up with my YouTube Subs (and maybe getting a video or two out of the Watch Later, though I suspect that'll be more of a Saturday thing). Hopefully all achievable goals! Night all!
