The Slow Crawl Of Probable PMS Continues
Jan. 8th, 2026 11:51 pmi.e., I remain bitchy, my concentration is continuing to head down into the toilet, and I find myself wanting loads of chocolate. And water -- for some reason, I'm often thirsty during PMS. Body looking for water to retain, I am sure. *shakehead* Hormones, man -- they suck ass. But despite their best efforts, I did accomplish a few things today:
Work – Welp – today was another busy day at the office, but in a frustrating way instead of an “oh there’s just a lot to do” way. Mostly because, for most of the morning, I was trying to e-mail people about overpayments on their 2025 pledges so we could see about moving them to 2026 or having them refunded –
But I kept getting interrupted by the damn phone ringing thanks to people wanting to make credit card gifts! Which, yes, I should have expected now that the pledge cards are being delivered, but it was still frustrating. Especially since these calls are rarely spaced out – no, everyone calls one right after the other! AND I ended up spending a while on the phone with one lady because her gift wouldn’t go through – turned out later she’d just been dinged for fraud and needed a new card. *sigh* Not to mention people were also calling in about the overpayments, and about making gifts different ways, and to set up pledges, and – yeah. The time before lunch was hectic and I did not like it. Fortunately things calmed down after lunch, and I was able to finish contacting all the people I needed to contact and get back to the “adding new parishioners” list I was working on yesterday, with just a couple of interruptions (like someone making sure she hadn’t accidentally made two pledges online), but still. Bleh. >( We’ll see if tomorrow ends up being just as stressful!
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – got back on the bike this evening and pedaled my way through –
A) “Wasteland Bites - Fallout: Food Truck Edition” by Jon of Many A True Nerd! This is a video I spotted on his channel while looking through it a little while back, and while I really wanted to watch it, something else always seemed to take precedence. So tonight, having finished my Oxventure for the week, I popped it on to see what it was all about! And what it was all about was – well, running a food truck in the post-apocalypse, as per the title. XD The premise of the game is that you play as some unseen person who has cobbled together a food truck after the end of the world, and you tool around the wasteland, stopping at various locations to serve food to the residents and earn money. You have on hand not only a variety of prepackaged snacks (including Just Barely Legally Distinct chips and “Light Soft Drink”), but also ready-to-eat-pizza, and a griddle on which you can cook things like onions, lemons, mushrooms, and patties to make various bowls-of-stuff, toast-based sandwiches, or shish-kebabs. Gameplay consists primarily of setting up shop at a location and working a shift where you serve the various misshapen creatures that come up and request various items (like a bowl of raw onions, raw lemon, and raw meat, or a slice of salami pizza, or a shish-kebab of cooked garlic, cooked cucumber, and cooked patty – yes, “meat” and “patty” are two separate items, one looking like a steak and the other looking like a hamburger) as fast as possible to keep them happy and earn more cash –
While also dealing with the various monsters the wasteland has to throw at you! Some mundane – like big old rats trying to get at your stores of food that must be shooed, and dogs barking around the front of your truck who must be scared away with the horn – and others...less so. Like the big glowing radioactive man who forces you to close the shutter on your window as he pounds on the side of your truck! The UFO flying overhead that will abduct you if you don’t put your lights off! Honky, the clown whose nose must be honked to keep him happy! And, of course, The Corn Man, a creepy giant ear of corn with a weird face who slowly leans in to look through your serving window whenever you’re turned away doing cooking things – and who, if you don’t catch him in time, will get into your truck and just murder you. This guy was Jon’s particular nemesis during this video. :p How much shit you have to deal with depends on the challenge rating of your location – Easy, Medium, or Hard – but putting up with more monsters and more difficult orders means, at least in theory, earning more money! Which allows you to buy things like a fan for the truck (which helps manage your stress levels – because yes, you have a stress bar to worry about too in this game) and extra gas to let you go more places and slowly move across the wreckage of the world! The ultimate goal is to reach the wonders of Paradise Beach – though that’s not currently accessible yet, as right now the game is only available in demo form, meaning you’re kind of locked to five locations in the upper-right-hand-corner of the map. *shrug* But it still looked fun – the art style is deliberately bad in that “trying to look vaguely retro” way, but it fits the comedic horror tone of the game, and the gameplay loop seems mostly reasonably balanced – Jon found the Easy location he started at to be no big deal; struggled a bit more at the Medium location because now more people wanted complicated orders and the damn Corn Man showed up to leer at him on the regular (and murder him twice, once with the help of ANOTHER monster keeping Jon distracted – Jon was very annoyed); and had to SCRAMBLE while parked in the Hard location because everybody wanted cooked food and the damn clown was right there by the shish-kebabs constantly wanting his nose honked. XD Like, I’m sure some things could do with some tweaking in the final release, but overall Jon seemed to have a fun time, and I did too. :) Hopefully when the game in full comes out, Jon will give it another go and maybe do a slightly-fuller playthrough – perhaps as one of his streams? We’ll see!
B) And “The Hangover in Baldur's Gate 3” by eli_handle_b.wav! This is the guy who likes to stick movie characters into video games (and is VERY good at it), and this was a quick little look cast from the Hangover series of movies trudging around Faerun and getting into trouble. Including one of them pissing off Kagha, temporary head druid, in the grove and getting chomped by her snake; another struggling with whether or not to sleep with the incubus Harleep (and if it would be cheating on his fiancee); and a third guy offering himself up to become a mind flayer after the group freed the githyanki monk Orpheus to help save the world from the threat of the Netherbrain – only for Orpheus to tell him that “you are not the ideal candidate” and one of his friends to go “that means you’re too fat.” Which the guy accepted. XD These are always a good time – not only are they quite funny, you can’t help but admire just how perfectly he’s inserted the movie characters into the video game setting. Like, it’s pretty much fucking seamless! I tip my hat to you, sir. *nods*
2. Edit Moose’s gift fic: Check – I decided that it would be better to edit this today rather than try to squeeze it in after Game Night tomorrow (because who knows how long that might run), ESPECIALLY since my concentration is slowly but surely starting to go to shit. So I did the second draft while having my dessert (a chocolate chip cookie, a “millionaire shortbread” square (caramel and chocolate on shortbread), and a Ferrero Rocher chocolate ball). Pretty happy with how it came out, even if I did have to fight my brain a little bit on it. Still unwilling to reveal anything because of spoilers, but you’ll see it soon enough, Moose! :) (And I’ll see if I can spare some time to answer your messages on your birthday too.)
3. Watch something on FreeTube: Check – tonight’s offering was the OXBox list of the week: “6 Things That Will Definitely Happen in 2026 (According to Videogames)!” Andy, Mike, and Jane talking about those events that, according to various video games set in the year 2026, will most certainly happen in the next twelve months! Live in a city called Fairport? Well, bad news – yours may be the unlucky Fairport that plays host to the pregnant ghost-woman Alma Wade from F.E.A.R. 3 and thus gets wrecked by all the evil psychic energy coming off her. Hoping someone bravely runs through a bunch of warehouses fighting robots to infiltrate a broadcast tower to play a tape that exposes the evils of a mega-corp and inspires people to rise up against it? Good news – Guy Freelander of Arena: Maze Of Death will be doing just that; bad news, he’s not tackling Amazon, but rather a new evil mega-corp, AstralNet. (Or, well, I suppose it’s not unthinkable that Amazon will rebrand…) Think SEGA will never be a major player as a video game company again? FOOL – the company will rise ONCE MORE this year, as predicted by the Dreamcast game Segagaga! Thanks to recruiting two anime teenagers to brave the offices that their feral development teams are locked in (exchanging finished video games for food), to meet people like Flagman (an all-red humanoid with a white F on his face and a flag on his head), battle blurry jpegs of men in baseball hats (who are susceptible to being taunted about their love of junk food), and eventually team up with Sonic the Hedgehog to fight Sony – er, DOGMA. ...yes, this is apparently a real game that SEGA themselves released back in 2001. SEGA, if you want to really get back on the scene, I say just re-release this game – it looks like it would do numbers on tumblr.
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – nothing happening on Valice Multiverse this eve, but I did finally get my Song Saturday sorted over on Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) by reblogging into the queue my post featuring Mr. Heuer’s “Newlyweds” Corpse Bride remix! Mostly because, while going through the depths of my “#song saturday” tag, I stumbled upon the post and realized that it had never gotten any notes. So I figured I’d give it at least one. :p Plus I do still like the remix – the voices in that one are a little garbled for my liking, but the instrumental stuff is very nice. So that’s THAT sorted, yay~
Nice to have a few things off my plate, anyway. :) And I managed to finish this entry before midnight, go me! Which means I really do need to try and turn in at a decent time tonight -- still got one more day of work to go, and both getting to and staying asleep has been difficult the past few days. :( At least this Saturday isn't a cleaning weekend, so I don't have to worry about getting up in time to do that...night all!
