Welp, It Wasn't PMS Last Night
Jun. 21st, 2025 11:51 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
It was straight up my period! I got the first hint of it coming on right before I went to bed last night, which at least allowed me to get in a pad and save myself soiling my panties, and possibly my PJs and sheets, when it kicked in in full later. I could have sworn that this was due nearer the end of next week, but I honestly don't remember off the top of my head when it actually showed up in May, so maybe I'm wrong. Just feels weird to not have any obvious PMS symptoms to clue me in until late last night that this was coming...but then again, I've had a lot less stuff annoy me lately. Especially at work, now that Talky Coworker is gone and I don't have to listen to her bullshit constantly. And without stuff to annoy me, well -- pretty hard to know that the annoyance is more than usual! *shakehead* Meeeh. Just glad I caught it in time!
Anyway -- today has not been the BEST Saturday, for multiple reasons (including one that you may have seen on the news tonight). But I have carried on and managed to get all the important stuff done:
Cleaning & Laundry: Welp, this once again took longer than I would have liked, thanks mainly to the following factors:
A) As previously stated, I got my period today, so my energy levels were pretty low most of the day
B) I got a late start on the cleaning because I had to spend the morning making the chocolate granola that I add to my Honey Nut Cheerios whenever I have cereal for breakfast (I ate the last dregs of the last batch with this morning’s bowl)
C) We ended up having lunch a bit early, which interrupted my flow, and during that lunch, Dad broke a tooth (we were eating chicken wings, and he thinks he bit down badly on some gristle – fortunately the loose bit came out without issues, and he’s not in any pain at the moment, so it’s not as bad as it could have been), which naturally interrupted my flow even further
D) I had to wait to start my load of laundry until after lunch because the load of “family” laundry Mom put in first took longer than expected, meaning I couldn’t finish my laundry until much later in the day
Sooo yeah – not a good day on the cleaning front! Especially considering what happened with Dad’s tooth, yikes. *wince* I’m very glad it’s so far not a full emergency situation, but it’s not great either. Hopefully it doesn’t get any worse before they can find a dentist to pull the remains on Monday… Anyway, bottom line is, cleaning took most of the day, with me starting with the dusting around 11 AM and finishing with my laundry just before 5 PM. I mean, granted, we did have an extra long “lunch break” thanks to the issues with Dad’s tooth, and I was able to hop on the computer by 3 PM because I finished vacuuming at 2:45 PM, but – still. *sigh* At least it’s all done for another couple of weeks! And at least I thoroughly enjoyed today’s Oxventure: Blades In The Dark episode – another Barnaby and Lilith adventure, featuring the pair having to rescue some Dimmer Sisters, Rosie and Josie, for their enemy-turned-cautious-ally Kelinor to get her info on the society that’s responsible for the draining of magic from the world. Featured Barnaby running a perfect pump-and-dump scheme on an erstwhile ally and poor Lilith getting Level 1 Harm “Touched Hair and Creepy Murmurs” from having to squash herself in a hidden compartment with Rosie and Josie, who are spooky little sods. XD Only two more episodes to go now, though. :( Have to find something else to listen to soon!
Writing: I am happy to say that, while waiting for my darn laundry to finish drying, I was able to finish Chapter 2 of “The Van Dort Vacancy” today! :D Which mainly featured Victor trying to tune Barnaby out as our favorite douchebag rich guy babbled on about how the Fortescue family has three houses, including a “little” cottage in Barrowcleft for when the family wants to try “country living” in a place with only one ballroom...only to suddenly get pulled back in when Barnaby started asking weird questions about the Van Dort vault. Like where it was, and what the security was like, and if he could see it. Victor was like “it sounds like you want to rob my parents” –
Causing the briefest flash of panic across Barnaby’s face before he started trying to justify it by saying he’d just bought shares in a security company (the very one he pumped-and-dumped in the episode I listened to today, in fact) and he wanted to see if their products were really the best by comparing them to other people’s security measures. Causing Victor to be like “sure – but if you DID want to rob my parents, I’d be happy to help you, so long as you let me get my stuff first.” Causing Barnaby to ask if Victor wanted to talk somewhere more private. XD Good stuff – I really do love writing this series. Next time, we switch POVs for at least half a chapter (unless I decide that Victor going up to his room to get his stuff warrants a chapter of its own, which, it very well might) to catch up with Alice and Smiler by the servants’ entrance, where Smiler has a question for Alice...
Tumblr: While I didn’t do much over here, I did more than I normally do on a Cleaning (& Laundry) Saturday, so win –
Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) – Accomplished two things of note on my main blog here:
A) I answered Polyamorousmood’s nice reply on my Song Saturday post, where they called me sweet because I called their list of poly songs famous, and said they were glad it was inspiring me – I replied that the list is famous to me, anyway! XD And that it was nice to have some actual poly songs to post on Saturdays, instead of constantly reinterpreting regular old love songs in poly ways for my OT3. (Which does often work out quite well – “Shivers” by Ed Sheeran is now firmly a Valicer song – but still.)
B) And I made sure to get Nebby’s gift fic (the one where Alice the knife-thrower, Smiler the alchemist, and Victor the late-lingering guest find themselves trapped in the freak show that forms the setting of the third chapter of Nebby’s fic “MediEvil II Resurrection” and end up spying on Dan fighting some of the enemies there, with Alice intervening to help him against the monstrous “Pincushion” freak) queued up before I started my YouTubery – fortunately, for once, I didn’t have any last-minute typos to correct, so it all went pretty smoothly. :) Hopefully Nebby enjoys it!
Valice Multiverse – And over here, I didn’t have any asks or threads or anything, so I just stuck the newly-updated version of the “Mega Gender/Sexuality Headcanons” post (now with additional BTTF characters) into the queue for tomorrow. Because, well, wanting to reblog it again was the whole reason I updated it with said BTTF characters. XD So the new version has officially fulfilled its purpose, hooray!
YouTube: Welp, I was hoping to get at least three videos out of my Watch Later today, but thanks to various delays, I only managed to get through the pair of OXBox videos in there. But that’s still two, and they were at least very entertaining –
A) “7 Worst Perks You Must NEVER Take” – Mike, Andy, and Jane talking about the absolute WORST perks in various games that you must avoid at all costs! Thought the “Inspire” perk you can get as “Jack The Doppleganger” in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel must have some sort of cool stat boost or XP multiplier attached to it? Nope – all it does is cause Jack to pop up in the corner of your screen, say a few banal words, and cause an “INSPIRED” graphic to appear briefly. And then he berates you if you die, with “DISILLUSIONED” showing up instead. Think “Cannibal” in Fallout: New Vegas would be the best perk to easily top up your health in a pinch? Well, it does refill your HP, but it also drops your karma and makes anyone who sees you do it attack you instantly. Which, well, usually causes you to lose more HP than you just gained! Not sure what “Rhythm Dodge Pull Cancel” does in Hi-Fi Rush but want to buy and equip it anyway, just because it’s there? Surprise – you should have read the description where your support character, Peppermint, revealed the chip was useless, because this thing CANCELS your ability to pull power-ups toward yourself during Rhythm Dodges! ALWAYS read the description, everyone – it will save you from terrible perks! (Well, sometimes. But still read the description, people work hard on those.)
B) “Silent Hill 2 But Worse | We React to Silent Hill 2 Remake Ruined by Mods” – Mike subjecting Ellen, Jane, and Andy to – well, see the title. XD Yes, much like Mike found a collection of mods to ruin Stray, so too did he find a collection of mods to ruin the Silent Hill 2 remake! And let me tell you, it was thoroughly ruined, featuring as it did:
I. Carl from Pixar’s Up as protagonist James Sunderland – though, as Andy pointed out, this was at least semi-thematically appropriate, given both James and Carl spend most of their respective stories sad about their dead wives. And then began theorizing about how Ellie really died in that movie… XD Anyway, the model for Carl was really well done (even including some rudimentary lipsync), but the size of his head ruined many a cutscene and made reading the map impossible (which Mike said was extremely frustrating – as you might expect!)
II. A weird Slenderwoman creature as Angela, the woman he meets periodically throughout the game – everyone was put off by the fact that she was tiny rather than tall and slender, and that she had the original character’s hair instead of being bald (Andy kept saying they had “Ms. Pac-Man-ed” her)
III. Russell from Up as Eddie, that young man James finds cowering in a bathroom at one point and who is eventually revealed to be a killer – Russell’s giant head and cartoony proportions were well-rendered, like Carl, but also kind of ruined his cutscene, like Carl. Also there was some debate whether or not Russell would murder someone – Jane was like “never!” but Andy pointed out that, if there was a merit badge in it…
IV. Boo from Monsters Inc as – that kid Mary befriended while she was sick, I don’t remember her name. It’s not really important as we got the barest glimpse of the kid in the section Mike played
V. Horrible “realistic” armless Patrick Star with long legs, fishnet stockings, and high heels as the various enemies Carl faced – and let me tell you, NOBODY liked these things! Like, they were fucking CREEPY with the “realistic” look, and the, uh, “pecs” at the front were quite disturbing. As was the lack of regular arms. The way they moved around was horrifying too. About the only thing they had going for them was their bright colors making them easier to pick out of the fog
VI. And a stretched-out picture of former president Obama’s face over Pyramid Head’s iconic dome – which caused no small amount of confusion among everyone because what the everloving hell. O.o Though Andy couldn’t resist doing the meme: “Trapped in a psycho-sexual hell of my own making, thanks Obama.” XD
So – yeah. Definitely not the same game that it was before. Though the ending consensus was that the mods might have ENHANCED the experience by making Silent Hill even more uncomfortable and creepy than it was before. So, uh, win? XD Can recommend, even if you’re not a Silent Hill fan!
Other: While it was hot today, it wasn’t excessively humid (the dreaded “heat dome” hasn’t QUITE hit us yet), so we did get out at around 5 PM (once I’d gotten all my sheets and blankets folded) to play some beanbags –
And holy hell, did I ever manage to turn things around today! Not only did I win three games out of five, I scored my very first twelve of the year in the first game! :D Granted, I full-on lost the two games I didn’t win (in one struggling to get above a ten), but still! That’s a LOT better than I HAVE been playing! And don’t worry – while I definitely dominated the field, Mom and Dad won a game each, so that’s good. :) Final scores were me W-W-3-3-W; Dad 2-3-W-2-2; Mom 3-2-2-W-3. *nods* I dunno if we’ll play tomorrow, but hopefully I can keep the momentum going if we do!
And there we have it! Very glad to have gotten done what I got done. *nods* And now I should see about going to bed, as of course my period is making me extra tired. *sigh* Tomorrow, plans include figuring out what posts I want to draft out next on Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler); playing some more Superliminal and finding some more collectibles; writing up Gigs's birthday story; getting in a workout; and keeping up with Jon of Many A True Nerd. Hopefully all achievable goals -- we shall see. Night all!
