Because, really, you DON'T want to hear about my day.
First, from
darkjediprinces:
What are the five coolest gadgets, in any fandom?
1. Dingbots. Agatha Heterodyne's signature helpers from "Girl Genius," they're very intelligent (especially Prime), self-replicating, and explodable in case you need a quick bomb.
2. Death rays. I mean, most any kind is cool, but I like Agatha's homemade ones the best. Zap-pow!
3. Sleep inducers. Doc's future gadget of choice for those pesky accidental time travelers the writers wrote in when they didn't realize they were going to actually do sequels. :p Can you imagine how handy those things would be? Anybody annoys you, you just zap 'em. "No, officer, I have no idea how he fainted. . . ."
4. Steampunk ice makers. Come on, who doesn't love Doc's overly-elaborate "refrigerator" in Part III? "Iced tea?"
5. Deadtime watches. From the American McGee portion of my "Alice in Wonderland" fandom, an invention of the Hatter's. Stops time for about 30 seconds in-game. Again, another one of those things that would be dead useful in real life.
What are your five favourite action/fight scenes?
1. The Almanac Chase -- specifically, Marty on his hoverboard going after Biff in his 46 Ford and the Almanac. Marty is one agile kid, and Biff is one mean son of a bitch.
2. The Battle Circus -- Agatha, furious over a friend/crush's death (poor Lars), unleashes the gigantic wagon dingbots of doom, which take down the Wulfenbach forces attempting to kill her and her friends (it's a LOONG story). Baron Wulfenbach is squished by a chicken house. Offscreen, a merry-go-round that can level a town kicks the pirate queen Bang DuPree's butt.
3. Escape From Castle Wulfenbach -- related to the above. Agatha, in her period of "before she knew she was a Heterodyne," first ends up fighting slaver wasps with the Baron's son, then attempts to escape with her adoptive construct parents, then has to escape on her own when they're killed. Features OTHAR TRYGGVASSEN at his most annoying, the Agatha/Gil kiss, and much badassery on many people's parts.
4. Skateboard Hero -- the first is still the best. Marty, needing to escape Biff and his gang, "invents" the skateboard from some kid's scooter and soundly outclasses the bullies. First appearance of the Tannen/Manure OTP. :p
5. Department of Mysteries -- yes, I do like Harry Potter, and the battle at the Department of Mysteries in Book 5 was, in a word, cool. Spells flying everywhere, Dumbledore kicking butt, and best of all:
"He's not alone! He's still got me!"
Neville finally gets his moment in the sun. (Total Neville fangirl here)
What 5 media (books/movies/tv show) universes would you want to visit if they were, you know, real?
1. Hill Valley in Back To The Future -- duh.
2. Wonderland in "Alice in Wonderland" -- preferably a happy one -- perhaps the fixed one at the end of "American McGee's Alice?"
3. Castle Wulfenbach in "Girl Genius" -- Wulfenbach fangirl, and they have all SORTS of sciency stuff on there.
4. Land of the Dead in Corpse Bride -- Much more fun than the Land of the Living. I'd like to jam it up with Bonejangles.
5. Hogwarts in "Harry Potter" -- who wouldn't? I tend to think I'd be a Ravenclaw.
Name five fannish races [species] you find yourself drawn to, and why you are drawn to them.
1. Vampires -- They're just interesting. Plus, most of them do have some pretty cool powers -- flight, shape-shifting, mind control. . . .
2. Werewolves -- Again, interesting as hell. And the comedy for them is pretty cool.
3. Constructs -- "Girl Genius" has shown me that people built from the ground up are still people. And most of them do seem to get super-strength at the very least, so that's always a plus.
4. Zombies -- I'm not sure how else to classify the inhabitants of the Land of the Dead. But those guys are more alive than most of the living. And the traditional brain-eaters are pretty interesting too.
5. Dragons -- Okay, technically an animal, but most of them can talk. Look, they're flying reptiles who can breathe fire and do some magic. Who wouldn't like them?
What five scenes from your fanfics would you like to see illustrated?
1. Dark Half -- I'd like to see a drawing of Jack. No, seriously, I want to see someone try Jack, preferably facing off against Doc for contrast. I guess that means I want to see the end fight between Doc and Jack illustrated.
2. Marty In Wonderland -- Somebody do that scene with the mobile tea table! And don't say I haven't written it yet, it's practically identical to the And drabble88. I just think it would be hilarious.
3. True Hero -- Doc and Marty in their costumes as each other. (Incidentally, with "What Lies Within" and "Congraduation" on the scene, I'm going to have to rewrite the beginning of that.)
4. BTTX -- Doc, done up in his "Lightning" garb. Doc in pleather = *DROOL*
5. Curiouser and Curiouser -- Doc and Mystie in their wedding garb would be nice. (I've been meaning to do pics of ALL of the Doc's Girls, including the different forms of Clara, for a while now myself.)
What five characters would you want working for you if you were a supervillain plotting world domination?
1. Klaus Wulfenbach -- the guy has experience, having conquered most of his fellow Mad Scientists to create Europa Wulfenbach. Plus, he's smart. Really smart.
2. Dr. Emmett Brown -- Another smart guy. And having a time machine at my disposal would be very useful.
3. Dr. Helen Narbon -- the OLDER. Helen's Mom is pretty much pure evil -- I'd have her around to help invent things of destruction, get rid of pesky henchmen, and act as a mentor. Always a risk she'd try to take over, though. . . .
4. American McGee's Mad Hatter -- Another smartypants. Let's face it, the game version is evil -- look what he did to Dormy and March! He'd be useful for making the henchmen more durable, and he could also serve as the cook.
5. Magneto -- the guy does know how to rally the troops. And metal manipulation is a pretty cool power. Again, though, risk he'll want to be the one in charge.
Name the five scenes that make you melt in True Fannish Love. Every. Single. Time. You know the scenes, the ones that either pimped you in, or proved to you that you had well and truly fallen.
1. "I finally invent something that works!" -- otherwise known as the DeLorean reveal in Part I to Doc55. I'm sorry, but I LIVE to see that smile of his. The way his face just lights up. . . *sigh*
2. "Yay! We did it! *smooch*" -- Agatha and Gil's first (and to date, only) kiss. I'm thinking of declaring this couple an OTP -- I love the two together, and when I saw the kiss for the first time, I squeed in joy. (Added fandom bonus -- it makes me think of Gypsy and Doc's first kiss.)
3. "We're friends, right?" "Yeah." . . . *smooch* -- Helen and Dave's first kiss in "Narbonic." I love that couple too, if only for the FUN they get up to during sex. :p It was just such a perfect buildup -- Helen and Dave having a heart-to-heart in the lab while Artie tries to convince Mell not to kill Helen's mother for the Dave Conspiracy (again, LONG story), they declare they're friends, and then -- kisses! It's love all around.
4. "She had saved herself as well." -- The end scenes of "American McGee's Alice" -- I've seen a good number of the cutscenes on YouTube. I always get near tears when I see Wonderland restored and Alice cheerfully leaving the asylum. Go have a good life, Alice.
5. Attack on the Whitehouse -- specifically, Nightcrawler's from X-2. God, I got such a thrill when I saw that in the theater. Even now, watching it on DVD makes me feel all tingly. He's temporarily evil, yeah, but he kicks butt so well!
DVD 5
1. How many and which of your fandoms do you own on DVD?
Well, not all of my fandoms are ON DVD. However, I have five, I think:
Back To The Future I,II,III
Spider-Man I,II
X-Men I,II
Alice In Wonderland Disney, NBC
Corpse Bride
The ones not on DVD would be "Girl Genius" and "Narbonic," and I have books of those.
2. If you had tapes, did you toss them when you got the DVDs?
I only had tapes of BTTF, and they're still around somewhere.
3. What are your favorite extras (commentary tracks, behind-the-scenes featurettes, bloopers, foreign language dub, interviews with cast, etc.)? Generally and specifically.
I love bloopers. Bad/funny takes for the win. I also like commentary tracks, but only if the people involved are definitely having fun. For example, on my Lemony Snicket DVD, they have a commentary with Lemony Snicket (I ASSUME it's actually Daniel Handler, I'm not sure), and it's fricking HILARIOUS. Cut scenes are also cool.
4. What do you view first: the episodes, commentary, extras?
Movie/episodes, then extras, then commentary tracks.
5. What fandoms on DVD do you not yet own or are not out yet?
Harry Potter -- I suppose I should, but I'm just not as wild about the movies. *worries about upcoming Order of the Phoenix*
Girl Genius -- Not ON DVD yet, but we can always hope a movie studio picks up the comic!
Narbonic -- see Girl Genius.
CHARACTER 5
1. Who is your favourite animated character? Why?
Ooh, that's tough. . . . I'm going with either Wakko Warner or Pepe Le Pew. I'm a sucker for Warner Brothers, and "Animaniacs" and "Looney Tunes" were some of my favorites.
2. Who is your favourite television character? Why?
. . . This is a problem, as I don't actually watch that much TV. Recent shows are a mystery to me. Hmmm. I'm going with Gromit of "Wallace and Gromit" -- they started out in TV shorts. He's an intelligent dog who doesn't even need to speak to create humor. Pair him up with his owner Wallace, and you've got classic British comedy.
3. Who is your favourite (no longer in production) televison character? Why?
I'll go with Lucy Ricardo from "I Love Lucy." I loved that show to pieces at one time -- Lucy's zany schemes were always good for a laugh.
4. Who is your favourite television ensemble cast? Why? (If you don't have one/want to imagine the possibilities, assemble one and explain your choices and the fandoms they are from).
You know, I'll go with the cast from Mystery Science Theater 3000 for this one. No matter whether it's Joel or Mike, the Mads or Pearl, Brainguy, and Bobo, they always make me laugh.
5. Who is your favourite movie character? Why?
Who do you think? Doc Brown! Intelligent, loyal, romantic, with fluffy hair and brown eyes to die for. . .who wouldn't like him?
DEATH 5
1) What is your favourite death scene (movies and/or tv)? Why?
Favorite? Well, since the meme won't let me choose Agatha's faked death (one of the issues ended on this nasty cliffhanger where it looked like Agatha had gotten fried), I have to default to Doc's at the hands of the Libyans. Minimum of blood, and you really, really feel for Marty at that moment.
2) Name the top three filmed death scenes of all time, in order. (The list doesn’t necessarily have to include your favourite.)
3) Trinity's death in the third Matrix movie. I admit, I didn't like the Matrix sequels all that much -- but they got me to cry when Trinity died.
2) "Meridian." Never seen it myself, but from the way my SG-1 loving friends talk about it, it's definitely a powerful moment.
1) . . . . I don't know! Too many death scenes. . . . Okay, I'm going with Otto Octavius's death in Spider-Man 2. "I will not die a monster!" Self-sacrifice is always good.
3) How many times has your favourite character died? Dream sequences can count. Who is it, and how did they die each time?
Doc's died twice. The first time, he was shot by the Libyans before Marty accidentally went back to 1955. He was saved by Marty managing to get a letter to his 1955 self. Then, when he was catapulted back to 1885, he ended up getting shot by Buford Tannen. Marty went back to 1885 in person to save him that time.
4) How do you, as a viewer, feel if a show kills, then resurrects a character? I mean, if someone can’t stay in the ground, do you feel it “cheapens” the emotional impact of their death? Or do you now not get upset if a character dies?
It depends on how they handle it and what kind of show it is. A sci-fi/fantasy show can get away with resurrections more easily because of the genre. And a comedy show can make a joke out of it. A more reality-based show would have more of a problem.
5) Death stories—love ‘em or hate ‘em? Can you give a two sentence reason?
I love angst, so I will read them. I just get freaked when there's a lot of them at once, like that window in time where it seemed a bunch of the fanauthors I read were writing Marty deathfics.
And from
sheggo2draken:
The Challenge: Assemble a superteam from your various fandoms.
Your team must consist of the following:
(1) Team Leader
(1) Warrior
(1) Smartypants
(1) Hottie
(1) Comic Relief
All your superteam members must be from DIFFERENT fandoms.
Team Leader: Klaus Wulfenbach, "Girl Genius" -- The guy knows how to lead, having taken care of Europa Wulfenbach for about 16 years(he came back with a toddler Gil, so it can't have been the full 18 Agatha's been alive). Plus, he's really smart, and you need smart leaders.
Warrior: Mell Kelly, "Narbonic" -- She's smart (she's an excellent law student for most of the strip), and has an incredible bloodthirst. Plus, being a cartoon character, she can yank guns out of thin air.
Smartypants: Dr. Emmett L. "Doc" Brown, Back to the Future -- Intelligent, loyal, has a working time machine. Can also easily pinchhit for Klaus if the latter is incapacitated, and vice-versa.
Hottie: Alice Liddel(?), "American McGee's Alice" -- one of the few "legal" Alices out there, she is kind of pretty (more at the end of the game when she finally gets out of the asylum). She's also a badass with her deadly cards. (Is it just me, or am I picking all members who can substitute for each other?)
Comic Relief: Victor Van Dort, Corpse Bride -- he's just so adorably clumsy. And he fights with a fork -- how great is that?
Okay, let's tabulate the "DVD" commentaries I have to do:
gigs_83 -- "Ich Liebe Dich," "15th Surprise" and (new) "True Hero"
smudge_pot -- "Shot Through the Heart"
martyfan -- "Roll of the Dice"
geno0823 -- "Ich Liebe Dich" and "Dark Half"
So, "Ich Liebe Dich," "15th Surprise," "Shot Through the Heart," "Roll of the Dice," "True Hero," and "Dark Half." *wonders exactly which universe the PreTime Docs and Martys will be visiting from* O.o
Well, anyway, thanks for the responses, I'll get going on those as soon as possible.
