Made just about 69 pages and 10 chapters.
-OD: All right, now we can see about getting it up.-
*nodnod* Like I said, I'm planning on getting Chapter 2 up later this week.
But now, a meme from
martyfan:
Pick ten characters:
1. Marty McFly (BTTF)
2. Dave Davenport (Narbonic)
3. Emmett “Doc” Brown (BTTF)
4. The Mad Hatter (American McGee’s Alice)
5. Alice Liddell (American McGee’s Alice)
6. Clara Clayton (BTTF)
7. Helen Narbon (Narbonic)
8. Jennifer Parker (BTTF)
9. Victor Van Dort (Corpse Bride)
10. Violet Beaudelaire (A Series of Unfortunate Events)
Now answer the questions below the cut. Don't look at the questions before you pick the characters!
1. Divide the list up by even and odd. Which group of five would make a better Five Man Band (like a Power Rangers team)? Who would you slot in each position: Leader, Lancer (second-in-command), Big Guy, Smart Guy, The Chick? If you think the team would be improved by swapping one character between the even and odd groups, which ones would you switch?
Odd Team:
Marty McFly – Big Guy (Ironic, huh? However, the kid does have a good punch, and he knows how to distract and avoid bullies. I’d make him Lancer if Helen wasn’t in charge.)
Doc Brown – Smart Guy (After Helen, he’s the smartest, and he knows the mechanical side of things)
Alice Liddell – The Lancer (Helen’s in charge, and Alice is pretty much the closest thing she has to Mell – she’s not afraid to fight, and she’s very good at what she does. Plus, she’s nuts.)
Helen Narbon – Leader (She’d never settle for anything else, and she is an extremely brilliant biological Mad Scientist)
Victor Van Dort – The Chick (Sorry, Victor, but you’re the shiest and most fearful of the group)
Even Team
Dave Davenport – Leader (He’s Helen’s boyfriend/second-in-command, so I doubt he’d settle for anything less either)
The Mad Hatter – The Lancer (Again, being the American McGee equivalent, he’s an insane inventor, so it only makes sense to have him in the secondary position)
Clara Clayton – Big Guy (Not the best fit, but she can deliver a mean kick to the shins)
Jennifer Parker – The Chick (What else can you give someone who slept through most of her role in the movies?)
Violet Beaudelaire – Smart Guy (She’s a fairly brilliant inventor for being only about 15 years old, and she and her siblings have outsmarted Count Olaf dozens of times)
I think the Odd Team makes the better one, if only because we get to see Marty do more actual fighting in the movies. Clara probably wouldn’t make a good Big Guy. I don’t think you could improve either team by switching anybody, they’re pretty well-balanced as is.
2. Gender-swap 5, 8 & 10. Which character would have the most change in their story arc? Which the least? Would any of these characters have to have a complete personality change to be believable as the opposite sex?
Alice to Allan
Jennifer to John
Violet to Victor
Alice probably wouldn’t have too much of a change in her story – the original books could easy accommodate a boy as well as a girl, and the game itself wouldn’t be too much changed with a male protagonist. Jennifer would have a significant change, considering she’s the girlfriend of BTTF’s main character! That would add an interesting dimension, having Lorraine be interested in her GAY son. . . . Violet’s story might also change drastically – in the very first book, Olaf tried to marry her to gain the family fortune. I doubt he could pull that trick with a boy. Then again, he might come up with something equally nasty. . . . I don’t think any of them need a personality change, besides being less feminine. Maybe Jennifer as John, I doubt he’d be as squeeful during the trip to 2015.
3. Compare the matchups of 5 & 8 and 2 & 9. (Ignore canon sexual preferences for the moment.) Which couple would be more compatible? Which couple would be more plausible to people from either principal's home culture?
Alice & Jennifer compared to Dave & Victor.
. . . I think my brain just broke.
I really don’t think either of them are that compatible, though Alice and Jennifer might get along better once Alice is out of the asylum. Victor would probably end up running screaming from Dave. Dave and Victor would be more plausible, though – Alice is Victorian, and lesbianism wasn’t exactly looked upon favorably in those days.
4. Your team is 3, 4 & 6. The mission consists of a social challenge, a mental challenge and a physical challenge. Which team member do you assign to each challenge?
Doc, The Mad Hatter, and Clara.
Doc gets the mental challenge, no questions asked. Clara gets the social challenge – she’s a good, proper lady, so she’d do the best. The Mad Hatter gets the physical challenge – with his improved clockwork body, he’d probably do great.
5. 7 becomes 5's boss for a week in some plausible fashion. How's their working relationship?
Helen becomes Alice’s boss?
Well, like I said in the team question, Alice is the closest thing Helen has to Mell, so I think they’d get along all right. Though Alice would be a lot more reluctant to kill the good guys, I’m sure.
6. 1 finds him/her/itself inserted into 6's continuity. As far as anyone other than 1 or 6 is concerned, they've always been there. What role would 1 be presumed to have had in 6's story, and could they fit in without going wonky?
Marty finds himself in – Clara’s continuity.
Uh, been there, done that, it’s called BTTF III, let’s move on. :p
7. 3 and 7 get three wishes. The catch is that they have to agree on all three wishes before they get the benefits of any of them. What three wishes would they make?
Doc and Helen get three wishes.
Well, they’re both smart, if on opposite ends on the moral spectrum. I’m pretty sure they could agree on wishes for 1. The best laboratories money can buy; 2. National recognition for their genius; and 3. For all their inventions to work perfectly from that point on. What more could any Mad Scientist, evil or good, want?
8. 6 and 3 are brainwashed by a one-time artifact that works even on people immune to mind control to attack and kill 1. They keep their normal personality, skills and competence level, except any Code vs. Killing has been turned off. Can 1 survive? How?
Clara and Doc are brainwashed to kill Marty?!
This would make a creepy, if interesting, fanfic. . . . At any rate, Marty’s very good at avoiding trouble, as evidenced by his getting one up on three generations of Tannens. I’m just not sure he could bring himself to hurt his best friend or his best friend’s wife. I’m putting the odds slightly in favor of him surviving, since he’s fast and agile and has a good punch.
9. 1, 6, 7 & 9 must help an orphanage full of small and depressed children have a merry Christmas. Who does what, knowing that at the very least the kids will be expecting a visit from Santa?
Marty, Clara, Helen, and Victor have to save Christmas!
I’m suddenly picturing the other three ganging up on Victor and forcing him to dress up as a Jack Skellington-style Santa. *giggle* Marty would work the crowd of kids, maybe dressing up as an elf for Victor’s Santa, while Clara would handle refreshments and Helen would mutate a tree to do a song and dance number. (Then the others would have to save the children from being eaten by it.)
10. 3 and 10 are challenged to circumnavigate the Earth in eighty days or less, using only forms of transportation invented before 1900. Can they do it, or will they be fatally distracted by sidequests or their own personality conflicts?
Doc and Violet? The first being a Jules Verne freak, the second a member of VFD, and both of them being steampunk inventors?
I predict that they’d be done in 40. :D
