crossover_chick: gif with Doc and Marty trying to get out of being written into twisted AUs (feeling sparky/creative)
[personal profile] crossover_chick
Our vacation package is all booked. We just need to wait for the tickets to come in the mail this week.
-Martys: *highfive each other*-
-M: This is going to be great!-
-D: I know! Although I suppose the experience will be slightly tarnished by the fact the BTTF Ride doesn't exist anymore.-
*wince* Yeah. Though the Doc character should still be running around the park. That might soften the blow. And of course I'll be seeing the "real" Doc in person. :D Somebody on BTTF.com had to scare me by asking if it was a videoteleconference thing. Luckily, Oliver (otherwise known as Spooky on eBay ;)) was on-hand to reassure us that yes, the actors were appear in person. He and his wife will be holograms, though. :p
-VD2: I can only imagine how angry you'd be if you'd gotten there, only to be greeted by a TV screen.-
You ain't kidding. Bad enough the ticket sales went up late. *is so glad she got hers*
We also ended up going to Best Buy today. I got a camera case for my camera, and we had the techs look at my computer and try to install FreeTime.
-RPD: *perks up*-
THEY couldn't do it EITHER.
-RPD: *jawdrop* WHAT?!-
I KNOW! The guy suggested we do a system wipe. I -- REALLY don't want to do that. But I don't want to feel like I wasted the money on FreeTime either. *snarl* He mentioned the copy protection software might be causing issues, but a few people on a Sim ranting community I'm on as [livejournal.com profile] eurekasims says that can't be the case as it's happened to others with earlier games. They suggested trying to install in another disk drive. I appreciate the help, but -- I don't HAVE another disk drive.
-TD: *holds up tools*-
No! Dad was particularly pissed -- I guess he figured it should all be better after the conflict with Bon Voyage was solved. I feel kinda bad for the guy, but frankly I'm annoyed too. What the hell is going on?!
-RPD: Sooo -- what now?-
I don't know. I'm back to "so annoyed I don't want to play" mode. :( *hugs RolePlayDoc* I'm sorry. I know you want something to do.
-RPD: *sigh*-
-DW: Make her work on Changeling. She's been in the mood.-
Yeah, I've got the books right here! Want to learn more about the time-warping contract?
-RPD: Yes please!-
-OD: What about fan fiction?-
I'm editing Chapter 6 of "The Gift and the Curse" right now. I hope to have it up before I leave on vacation. Also working on Chapter 11 of "V.D." and Chapter 12 of "Boy Genius."
-VD: Getting it all done together? We approve.-
-TD: Very muchly.-
Heh, I thought you would. As for the fanfic I'll be taking on the vacation with me, it'll probably be "Forward to the Past." I am seeing the FIRST of the trilogy at that screening, after all.
-D: Nice to be appreciated.-
-HD: It had better not be a dark and depressing story.-
It's more of an icky one. Involves childbirth.
-HD: O.O-
-WRM: Wait, isn't that set in 1987? I'm the bunny, not him!-
LOL, yeah, but it features characters from 2016. 1987 is kinda "the year of the future" when it comes to my stories. It's not a angstful story, just a stressful one.
-J: So says you.-
*sticks out tongue at*
-TTV: I don't suppose we could watch a certain movie before we go.-
Maaaybe. If you're good.
-VM: He's Victor. When is he not good?-
-TTV: *frown* Was that a compliment or an insult?-
-MF: Maybe a little of both. And Vic, let him watch his movie. Those plot bunnies you've had are messed up.-
-TTV: *instantly suspicious* WHAT plot bunnies?-
Nothing, really -- I just saw the TV Tropes entry on the anime "School Days" and looked it up out of curiosity --
-DW: It's a harem show based on a dating simulator. And very well known for a violent ending involving the two main girls turning either suicidal or murderous toward the male lead.-
-TTV: . . . If I ended up in some Japanese boy's school uniform--
Oh come on, have a sense of humor.
-TTV: I don't want to be killed! Yes, the afterlife is nice and all, but I still enjoy breathing.-
You wouldn't be killed! You'd be distracted by the Nice Boat!
-TTV: *blinkblink* The --
The ending of the anime was preempted by relaxing scenes, including that of a nice boat, because some crazy Japanese schoolgirl murdered her dad a little too close to the air date. Nice Boat has become one of those meme things.
-TTV: Like those LoLCats?-
*nodnod*
-TTV: I don't want to be a meme either.-
I'm sure that Nice Boat sailed long ago, Victor.
Anyway, let's have a survey from [livejournal.com profile] anonymoose_au, then it's back to goofing off with brief bursts of productivity for me:

1. How about a brief introduction?
I'm Vicky, best known in the fanfiction community as Flaming Trails. I write primarily "Back To The Future" fanfiction, though I've been known to dabble in other fandoms, primarily "Corpse Bride" and "Girl Genius." I also do a LOT of crossovers. My fiction of choice is Alternate Universe, focusing on worlds where the sequels didn't happen or happened a lot differently.

2. What got you into fan fiction (and/or adopting muses)?
I was always the type to develop stories based on the stuff I watched. I used to have an imaginary playland populated by the characters I was into at the time (back then, the Animaniacs and the Clue characters. I was a weird child). I wrote down little snippets while in school, but I didn't start putting fanfiction up to read until I discovered FanFiction.net. A guy pennamed J. Flux Wallace showed me how to properly format my first story, and I was on my way. As for the muses, I had my imaginary friends as a kid, yeah, but the current cast started showing up when I met my friend [livejournal.com profile] gigs_83 and she introduced me to LiveJournal. Back then I had three Docs and some of the Terminator 2 crew. The Termies eventually left as I became more BTTF-Focused and brought more Docs in.

3. What kind of fan fiction do you write?
I write a lot of Alternate Universe fan fiction. I like exploring where the characters could have gone had this happened or that happened.
More accurately, I like giving Doc superpowers. *blush* A lot of my interest in movie monsters has leaked into my fics -- I have two universes starring a vampire Doc and friends. I also really like crossovers, as stated above. I do write some canon-compliant stuff, but it's kind of overshadowed by everything else.

4. Do you write for the same pairings/characters?
Er, mostly. I mainly write about Marty, Jennifer, and Doc. Clara's presence is dependent on whether the particular universe I'm in involves the sequels. As for pairings, I stick to George/Lorraine and Marty/Jennifer, but Doc's varies according to the universe. Yes, he does get paired up with Clara the most often, but there's three other OC girls he ends up with in different worlds. Not to mention the other best friend I gave him, Holly Handlen. So mostly I write about the main characters, but OCs are involved.

5. What is your most popular fic and why do you think people like it so?
*checks the favs I've gotten* Huh! It looks like "BTTX," my BTTF/X-Men crossover is my most popular. It has 21 favs! I wouldn't have guessed that. I'm guessing it appeals to the nerdier parts of my audience. Maybe more people are like me than I thought and enjoy seeing Doc and Marty with superpowers. :D I'm hoping they like it because they think it's a good take on both the BTTF and X-Men universes. I tried to stay faithful to both (well, X-Men MOVIE anyway).

6. Forget other people, what is the fan fic you've written that you're most proud of?
Oh Christ. I've loved writing all my stories, so I'm not sure how to choose. I suppose I'll always be fond of "V.D." for kickstarting everything, and I had a blast writing stuff like "Catfight" and "Marty In Wonderland". . . .
But if I had to choose -- "Ich Liebe Dich." Yeah, it got me most of my flames, but my heart still goes soft at the end line. Screw the haters, I like my Doc/Marty friendship fluff.

7. Do you find writing easy? Hard? What aspects do you struggle with?
I generally find it pretty easy. I'm a fairly imaginative person, and I honestly like to write. I've always got SOMETHING cooking in my head, even if it's just something silly that'll never see the light of day.
Aspects I struggle with? Well, unfortunately, I'm a procrastinator, so it can take a while to actually GET me to write. And sometimes keeping people in character can be a little nerve-wracking. I write pretty weird fic, and sometimes it's hard to word what the characters say.

8. Are there any fan fiction trends/clichés you hate?
In BTTF fandom, Doc sometimes ends up with random daughters or granddaughters who then shove Jennifer out of the picture and start dating Marty. I don't like that at all. I mean, I'm all for getting Doc and Marty related somehow, but I prefer doing it through their kids. (Jules/Marlene shipper here.) I also agree with Moose about two people being friendly having to be sexing it up. Doc/Marty slash squicks me. (Yes, I like them huggy. That doesn't mean I like them buttsexing.) Let's not even get started on some of the other pairings. . . .

9. Are you guilty of any of the trends you hate?
Not really, I don't think. Though I'm sure people have their complaints about Mysteria, Josephine, and Gypsy shoving Clara out of the picture. I take responsibility for the first two -- Gypsy waltzed in all on her own to take over NonTrilogy. Seriously. And like I said above -- I like Doc and Marty close, but not THAT close!

10. Name your OTPs and explain what it is about them you love to write.
Hmmmm. . . .
I suppose there's Marty/Jennifer for BTTF. I honestly don't like fics that break them up or make them fight a lot all that much. Call me a sentimental fool, but I LIKE high school sweethearts. I like seeing them together. Jennifer's easy to work with, being a fairly blank slate from her limited role, and Marty's a fun guy. I like making them interact, it seems so natural. The same could go of George/Lorraine, I guess. I like writing a geeky George to a more sensible Lorraine. :p
As for other fandoms, I NAMED the Agatha/Gilgamesh ship for Girl Genius. Mad scientists are a blast to write, and I love the way Gil and Agatha work together. I've only written a couple of drabbles for them so far, but maybe in the future. . . . There's Alice/Hatter for "Alice In Wonderland." This is mostly inspired by other authors. Sensible Alice vs the manic Hatter is fun. And for Corpse Bride, I have an OT3 -- Emily/Victor/Victoria. He's NICE, damn it, he deserves both!
Have yet to write a fic for them -- but I've had some plot bunnies. . . .

And now, snacktime.
