Hmmm -- Mind Going Piecemeal?

I'm still not completely done -- but I hold off on pictures until Day Two, so I can give you a quick wrap-up of Day One now.
Day One
Got up at 7:30, left for the plane around 10. Dad dropped us off at the front, we got our boarding passes, and we were on our way.
Sort of.
You see, we’d arrived a couple hours early because of security concerns. But as it turned out – that was a breeze. Stick the carry-ons and such through the scanner, step through the metal detector, and zoom! You’re free. Which left us with a lot of time to fill. Luckily we’d had the foresight to bring books – I read some of Mom’s Grimm’s fairytales book and made some progress on my third Discworld, “Equal Rites.” Also picked up a quick cookie and milk for a snack.
-HD: Airports are distressingly boring.-
-WRM: I know! Too many straight lines and dull colors.-
Well, anyway, around 12:30 we got on the plane, found a couple of seats together, and settled in. We took off at 12:55 P.M. for sunny Orlando. I spent the flight looking at the provided catalogues (and they have some CRAZY stuff) and reading more Discworld. I’m liking “Equal Rites” so far. . .except that I’m seriously missing Rincewind. Damn it, that guy wormed his way into my heart fast.
Anyway, we land around 3:30 P.M. Yay, we’re in Florida, right?
Florida feels EXACTLY LIKE HOME.
Seriously. It’s pretty darn fricking cold! Victor gets his smug on about not taking off his suit jacket.
-TTV: *grin*-
But there is sweet revenge in the future, oh yes. . . .
After navigating the airport-which-looks-more-like-a-mall-holy-shit, figuring out how to catch our shuttle, and waiting 40 minutes for the darn thing to arrive, we hop into a van and get to our hotel. It’s a Quality Inn that doesn’t QUITE live up to the name. The room’s fairly small, the tub needs a bit of a scrub, and the minifridge has been unplugged for some reason. Still, we’re really there only to sleep, so whatever. We check in, get settled, and go for a walk around the surrounding area. As I’m rather hungry, we concentrate on locating food. There’s a TGI Friday’s relatively near the hotel, so we try it out. It’s – not really all that good.
-M: That turkeyburger was a lot of nothing, let me tell you.-
Yeah, I know. The strawberry lemonade was okay, though. Still, could have been a lot better. We eat and head over to a nearby Walgreens to pick up stuff that wouldn’t have made it through security – toothpaste, deodorant, things like that. After a lot of walking, we find we’re pretty near all the good stuff – supermarkets, restaurants, a Subway, and Wonderworks, the wonderful upside-down building with all sorts of crazy, vaguely science-themed exhibits. After that, we head back to the room, I have a dessert (I forget what kind), and we settle in for the night, planning on getting tickets for the 8:00 A.M. shuttle to Universal.
So, naturally, hell-ooo insomnia! NEITHER of us can sleep! I’m missing my stuffies – I could only bring Japanese tissue box Doc – and Mom hasn’t been away from Dad like this in forever. We watch a lot of Nick at Nite before finally falling asleep at around 2 in the morning.
So hopefully that'll keep you all satisfied for a bit. Updates to come soon, I promise! Right now, though, I've got a morning shift to prepare for, so I'd better start thinking about bed.
