Happy Birthday, Alice!

She's had a rather busy day -- fielding questions in the Nexus and a birthday party in the Inkwell. Apart from some guy semi-antagonizing her in the Nexus, though, it's all been good. Me, my day wasn't all that great (busy busy), but I got a Birthday Cake Friend-Z in honor of the occasion, AND an impromptu cup of hot chocolate, so I'm good.
I feel it only right to commemorate the day with Victor/Alice fic:
3. Jolt! – I Love It When He Walks Right Through Me
“Er – Alice?”
Alice glanced up from her book. “Yes, Victor, what--”
She stopped and did a double take. Her boyfriend wasn’t standing so much as floating next to her, his body slightly translucent and glowing a bright green. “Oh dear. What happened to the rest of you?” she asked, setting the book aside.
Victor sighed. “I was hoping you knew,” he said. “A certain someone apparently thought it would be funny to show me something called a ‘screamer’ on Doc’s computer.”
“A--”
“It purports to be one of those ‘find the object in the picture’ games, but after you’ve spent a minute or two looking, it suddenly flashes a gruesome picture at you while – well, screaming. I was so startled that--” He indicated his present state. “You see.”
Alice nodded, frowning. “And your body wasn’t there when you revived? Er, so to speak.”
Victor shook his head, scowling. “That certain someone apparently took it. He’s probably putting it in a silly pose somewhere.”
Alice groaned. “Simon. . . . I’m sorry, Victor, I haven’t seen him. Though I’ll be sure to give him a smack upside the head if I do.”
“Thanks.” Victor looked behind himself. “Perhaps Doc knows where he is.”
“Victor, wait a moment,” Alice said suddenly, getting up. “While you’re here – there’s something I kind of wanted to try.”
Victor cocked his head, puzzled. “What? I can’t do much of anything like this.”
Alice grinned a little. “I think you can still do this, at least.” She stood on tiptoe, then kissed him.
It was a odd sensation, to say the least. His lips were ice cold, and didn’t feel quite – real. A bit like kissing mist, in a way. Then she wobbled, and her lips went right through his, going completely numb as they did. Curiouser and curiouser. . . .
“Oh! Oh, this is strange,” Victor commented – and, to her shock, Alice felt her mouth move, as if Victor’s voice was coming from her throat. The two sprang apart, Alice nearly falling and catching herself on a chair. “Oh! I – I didn’t even know I c-could do that!” Victor gasped, looking stunned. “That is weird – are you all right?”
“Fine,” Alice said, sitting back down. “Though ‘weird’ doesn’t quite seem to cover it.”
“I know,” Victor nodded. He looked down at himself. “I always thought I’d just go right through people. Could I – actually possess someone?”
Alice was both unnerved and intrigued by the concept. Surrendering control of her body scared her a little, but – this was Victor. And feeling his touch like that, however cold and unreal, was – interesting. “We – we could practice together,” she offered. “I don’t mind.”
“Well--”
A sudden, almost wicked smile appeared on Victor’s face. “I have a better idea,” he said, then winked at her and vanished through a nearby wall. Alice watched him go, then grinned to herself and retrieved her book.
It appeared Simon would be getting a screamer of his own shortly.
I can hear Simon complaining about why he has to be the bad guy already. I just figured he'd be the one most likely to pull that sort of prank on Victor -- though, really, Lucy could be a candidate too. They both have slight mean streaks. Anyway, the prompt always suggested MuseVerse Victor and his ghost power to me, and I got to thinking about "Casper" and what it might be like to kiss a ghost. As Alice discovers, it's kind of weird. Screamers are a personal internet pet peeve of mine -- I'm pretty good at avoiding them, but I've been hit by one or two. Damn things, making me jump right out of my skin. (Well, not as bad as Victor. . . .) And the title? It's a modified lyric a song I saw a "Corpse Bride" vid for once -- "Ghost Girlfriend." Only, of course, it's the boy who's not exactly corporeal here, so. . . . Took me a while to settle on it -- I didn't want any titles that stretched out the initial table too badly. Luckily this fit.
Okay, I've stayed up way too late here. One tag answering myself as Alice, then I gotta get to bed. Sorry guys.
