crossover_chick: gif with Doc and Marty trying to get out of being written into twisted AUs (Default)

-->Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] tea_holic and [livejournal.com profile] shego2drakken for offering up their thoughts the other day about Virtues and Vices for Doc, Victor, and Alice. I think we've got a couple solidified:

Doc: The Vice both of them offered up was Pride. I know Doc's not really self-centered, and he doesn't usually come off as full of himself, but I had a brainwave that might justify it -- how he handles the situation with Clara. First, before meeting her, he insists there's no way he could fall in love at first sight, despite Marty having definite proof that they must have had a thing for each other. Then, when Marty says that maybe they could take her along to the future, he dismisses it outright, despite the fact that it's technically more logical than leaving her in the past. With Doc, I think Pride's less "I am so fantastic" than "we have to do things my way." As for Virtues, we had Temperance, Faith, and Hope, while I suggested Fortitude. Doc's known for being a bit of a determinator, which is why I was thinking Fortitude, but Hope might apply too. He certainly ends up with a rather positive outlook on the future by the end of Part III.

Victor: Vices suggested were Gluttony, Envy, and Sloth. Though admittedly Gluttony was more of the lulz, Ally admitted. Of the three, I think Sloth fits him best. Much as I love him, we have ample evidence that Victor's response to stressful situations is "get away NOW." He does eventually face up to his problems, yes, but his first instinct is to run. He's also bit of a reactive character in general. His proposed Virtues, on the other hand, were Justice, Fortitude, and Charity. I'm leaning toward Charity, simply because Victor's always struck me as the type who likes to help. And of course there's the whole "going to commit suicide for Emily" thing. . . . One could make a bit of a case for Justice, though. Victor does seem to strive to do the "right thing" through most of the movie.

Alice: Alice's Vice turned out to be easy -- all of us agreed it's Wrath. I'd thought briefly one could make a case for Sloth because of her catatonia, but that's honestly more of a derangement she'd earn. Let's face it -- this Alice is known as the angry Alice. As for Virtues, Faith, Hope, and Fortitude. I like Fortitude the best, as (despite her brief stumble when Rabbit dies), she never gives up trying to save Wonderland. Of course, this same thing could be used to justify Hope. I see that as more something she brings to others, though. After all, she's basically stated to be Wonderland's Champion. (Again with the parallels to the Burton film! And now Alice is bitching about how she doesn't get armor while Kingsleigh does. . . .)

Now that we've done that, anybody want to talk about Catalysts? That's the emotion that drives the event that makes a Genius -- well, a Genius. There's five:
Grimm: Born of Fury
Hoffnung: Born of Vision/Hope
Klagen: Born of Sorrow
Neid: Born of Bitterness/Envy
Staunen: Born of Curiosity

Alice is definitely a Grimm. Hell, pages on the Grimm Catalyst even mention a girl whose house burned down, causing her to lose everything as a possible Grimm -- how much more obvious do you want? Doc I see as a Staunen -- you can make a case for him being a Hoffnung, I suppose, but to me, Doc seems more interested in EXPLORING the world than CHANGING it. His speech about why he built the time machine is all about exploring the wonders, finding out the answer to the question "why?" And he's against using the time machine for personal gain (until it gets him a girlfriend, of course, and even then he nearly gives her up). It's Victor I'm having a little trouble with. I THINK he's a Staunen -- the events of the film would certainly give him enough to wonder about! But I think there could be cases made for perhaps Hoffnung or Klagen too. Any thoughts?

-->Speaking of mad scientist Victors, [livejournal.com profile] 8butterflyboy8 has picked up "Weird Science" as his themesong for the year and another playlist entry. He also got a really nice comment about how someone always enjoyed seeing his entries on LJ. *blush* Oh why does praise make me awkward. . . . Also, the first of the Card Two prompts are up. Sorry it's kind of on the dark side, but I really wanted to write that fic.

-->Been playing the Eureka villagers in Sims -- nothing too much interesting to report so far, except that Biff is now a toddler!

An ugly toddler -- look at those bags under the eyes. Maybe he'll grow into it. His stats are 2 Sloppy, 8 Outgoing, 9 Active, 6 Playful, and 1 Grouchy, which fits pretty well with his canon personality.
