First off, my most heartfelt wishes to the people of Japan, and anyone else affected by the recent disaster. I'm just -- wow. Is it just me, or can that side of the world not catch a break lately? *sends good vibes*
On happier subjects, I finished Interesting Times today! Have I mentioned how much I love the Discworld? :D Fantastic book. Rincewind! Twoflower! Everything is awesome. The villain is appropriately nasty, and gets a fantastic comeuppance. Also, we learn more about Twoflower in a way that makes us want to give him all the hugs. Also? He can be epic. Really. And poor Rincewind, always being -- well, Rincewind. And the small bits at the University were great. :D Now I just have to locate a copy of Maskerade. Time to visit the Lancre Witches again!
Also accomplished today -- a new playthrough of Episode 2 of the BTTF Telltale Game. Last time I kind of screwed up the order of events, so this time I took a few notes from the walkthrough and did things properly. Meaning I got to hear some new dialogue, see a few new scenes -- it's great. Still really, REALLY looking forward to Episode 3, though. Bring on -- Control Valley?
-Docs: *are really NOT looking forward to Episode 3*-
*patpat* Look, it's not really you --
-D: Having him as an option is still rather disturbing.-
Don't worry, by the end of Episode 4, I'm sure that particular plot will be set to rights.
Anyway, having done a fresh playthrough, I'm ready to present you with one of the Drabbles88 I wrote up! Finally picked a prompt for it, though it might need some explaining:
72. Sober
Artie walked down the street, holding Trixie’s hand tightly. He still couldn’t believe this. He was free. He was honest to God free of Kid Tannen. And he had the girl of his dreams – Kid’s former moll – walking with him. None of it felt real yet – like he was due to wake up any minute and find himself stuck back in that stupid safehouse. Don’t you ever wake up, Arthur McFly, he told himself. Not ever.
Trixie gave his hand a squeeze as they wandered away from the square. “I was so worried about you, Artie,” she said softly. “Kid put your picture up on his Wall of Fame, and I thought--” She stopped, obviously not wanting to come right out and say it. “Oh, I was heartbroken.”
Arthur frowned a little. His picture had been up on the wall of fame? But Kid only put people he’d killed up on that wall. Then again, it would have been just like him to go back on his word of letting Artie live once he had the chance. He shuddered, realizing how close he’d come to death. “Well, it’s okay now,” he told her (and himself too). “He’s gonna be put away for a long time.”
“Oh, yeah,” Trixie nodded. “Nobody gets away with cheating Uncle Sam like that. Bet we don’t see him again until we’re all old and gray.”
Artie nodded back. For a moment, he took a moment just to look at her face. Those blonde curls, that red mouth, and those gorgeous bright green eyes. How on earth had a girl like her ever ended up interested in him? Did she really like accounting that much? Of course, maybe I should just be grateful that she likes me at all, he told himself, smiling. “I’m really glad you got the guts to stand up to him, Trixie.”
Trixie sighed. “I just wish I’d done it sooner, so that--” She looked down at her shoes. “I liked you the moment I saw you, Artie. Nobody’s ever treated me as sweet as you did.” She suddenly laughed. “And here’s you, not even knowing my name!”
Artie blinked at that. “Uh – yes I do,” he pointed out slowly.
“Trixie? That’s just what I was goin’ by as a singer,” Trixie said. “You deserve to know my real name.” She blushed. “But I’m warning ya, it’s kind of awful.”
“Oh come on,” Artie said. “It can’t be that bad.”
“It can too,” Trixie said. She took a deep breath. “It’s – Sylvia.”
Sylvia?
Sylvia?!
Artie stared for a moment, remembering a dark street two months ago, and two feds telling him to wait for someone. At first, he thought he was waiting for a special contact. But now – now he was wondering if those two guys had simply known something he didn’t at the time. He grinned, and pulled Trixie – Sylvia – close. “Hon – it’s a beautiful name.”
Okay, prompt explanation -- it refers to the fact that this happens right after Kid's arrested, meaning the speakeasy's been closed down for good. It was the closest thing I could fit to the story itself.
-M: I see you went ahead and made Trixie Grandma.-
LOL -- well, Moose and I both had the same idea. Neither of us can really believe Artie's all that much of a "sow your wild oats" guy. I can definitely buy Trixie being a stage name. Besides, they're rather cute together.
Where this takes place in the game is right after Kid Tannen gets arrested and Doc and Marty are splitting the scene. The mention of Artie's picture being in the Wall of Fame is a puzzle from the game -- to get Trixie to spill her guts and sell out Kid, you need to have Zane the gangster cartoonist draw a caricature of George's picture (taking advantage of the "McFly men like to father clones" thing) and slip it into the empty frame on the wall. As soon as Trixie thinks Kid didn't honor his promise to her to spare Artie's life, she gets mad and promptly plans to go to the police. (Whether this endeavor succeeds or not is dependent on whether Officer Parker's dried out or not.) Artie and Kid, naturally, are confused as hell by this. :p
-VM: Grandpa seems to take it in stride, though. Well, mostly.-
Yeah, he knows Kid. Anyway, only other bit of trivia is that I initially had Trixie with "baby blue" eyes. Part of my replay was to check my memory -- and yes, it was wrong. She has very prominent green eyes.
-VD2: Paying too much attention to my younger self?-
He's cute!
And finally, remember Butterfly Boy's dark fic the other day? It's turned into an RP thread, so I'm actually playing Victor as he actually goes Creative in the story (more or less). It's -- kind of creepy, actually.
-TTV: I noticed. I'm actually very glad you haven't got the appropriate icon for it.-
Scary Shiny Goggles scare ya?
-TTV: When they're on ME, yes. And you reading more "Madness Returns" news is not helping.-
I can't help it! GameTrailers showed a bit more footage from the game! *is intrigued like whoa*
Anyway, best get back to Touched!Victor.
