crossover_chick: Alice (Wonderland) looking kind of confused (AMA: WTFery?)

The trip to Best Buy got pushed back a day due to inclement weather -- we were supposed to get severe thunderstorms. (Never saw anything down here except some rain, but it's quite possible they hit Warwick.) So instead I spent the day on the laptop, documenting things.

This damn thing worked perfectly today. When I went for my shower and went to get something to eat, it went into normal standby mode.

Granted, I have NOT run my antivirus yet. But something [livejournal.com profile] martyfan mentioned when we were chatting on AIM got me to thinking -- is it the OUTSIDE heat that's fucking up Chester? I got him at the tail end of last year's summer, and I didn't start using him as a regular computer until well into the fall. And it was pretty damn warm yesterday. . . . And that three-hour session I had on Alice was at night, when it was cooler. . . .

I honestly don't know anymore. We're gonna keep watching it for the next few days, see what happens. I've also been considering a laptop cooling pad. My room's not air-conditioned (I've got a fan, but my laptop's tucked off to the side of that), and apparently they work, especially if you use the computer for gaming. . . .

Thoughts would be appreciated, fellow laptop users! My laptop is a Samsung Q430-11, running Windows 7. I do my best to keep the air vents clean and free from obstruction (giving my printer to Dad has helped a LOT in that regard -- I wasn't using it, so. . .) It generally gets hot in the top left corner of the keyboard -- gets hotter if I'm running a game or Kaspersky. It sits flat on my desk.
