Saw HP7-2 and PotC: OST recently
Jan. 13th, 2012 11:59 pmHarry yesterday, Pirates today. My thoughts in brief:
-->HPatDH 2: All right. I liked how they changed things with Griphook (made the trio look less like bastards), and the whole bit with the dragon was great. The climax, though. . .
Would you believe I felt it was PADDED? I'm serious. The whole little bitchfight with Voldemort slapping Harry around could have been cut, I think. I mean, I'm all for a more dramatic death for Voldiepants, but -- I don't think the film version quite measured up either. Also, the bit with Nagini and Neville was WAY TOO LONG. Yes, okay, I understand that it was supposed to be MORE DRAMATIC with Neville saving Ron and Hermione.
All I kept thinking was "YOU FUCKERS, YOU'RE TRYING TO TAKE IT AWAY FROM HIM, AREN'T YOU?" Seriously, that's what it felt like to me -- that they really wanted one of the main trio to have the honor of killing Nagini, but they couldn't because people would revolt.
They should have done the original Neville moment. The movie Neville moment was badass, but the book Neville moment was BAD-ASS. And Harry should have defeated Voldemort in the main hall, like he did in the book. Voldie dying should have had an audience. I dunno, maybe it's me. I have to say, after the POA film cut out the explanation of the Mauraders, I've never been able to get into the Harry films quite as much.
-->PotC: OST: Meh. Pretty visuals, a few funny moments, but -- the film felt kind of like three subplots that didn't tie well together. The whole mermaid bit felt really tacked-on in particular. (Though I kinda-sort like the mermaids themselves. Nice take on them.) One thing I did like -- the twist with the Spanish. That I thought kind of awesome. The rest of it -- meh.
