crossover_chick: Doc in goggles and holding a big old plug with the words "feeling sparky..." (BTTF: feeling sparky/creative)
[personal profile] crossover_chick
My Geology teacher canceled this week's lab, unbeknownst to me and some others -- wish I'd known about this before I came, I could have gotten home WAY earlier. Can't really complain, though -- I made it home about a hour early, and while at school I not only wrote some more on "In The Land of the Dead," I also edited and posted Chapter 3 of "Losing You" on Ao3 and wrote my drabbles for [livejournal.com profile] charloft. Productive! Alice is going well too:

Alice Progress: Up to Just Desserts, "American McGee's Alice"

Yes, that evil bitch of a Duchess is up for tomorrow. God, I hate her. You can be helpful all you want in the sequel, Duchess -- it does not make up for the fact you're the first boss in AMA, and you teleport!! And after that is the swimming level of doom. . . Well, I've made it through them before, I will again. Honestly, the swimming level hasn't actually given me that much trouble. *shrug* (Watch, I'll drown fifty million times now.)

Anyway, I was also productive enough to edit another story, so here's that Virtue I owe you:

14. Prudence
Fandom:
Ghostbusters
“What’s it like, being married to a Ghostbuster?”
Alice considered the question. It wasn’t an uncommon one for her, but she always seemed to need a minute to come up with a decent answer. “It can be entertaining, but it can also be nerve-wracking,” she finally said. “My husband and his friends never come back to the station without a story. But – well, everyone knows the kind of threats they’ve faced. Malevolent spirits, people trying to make themselves into gods, actual gods. . . It doesn’t help that both Victor and I have already been possessed once,” she added, unable to help glaring in the general direction of the fridge as she remembered being taken over by Zuul.
“And your child targeted as a new body by Vigo the Carpathian,” the reporter added, though not with any malice. “People seem to consider you and your husband cursed.”
“They’re not exactly wrong, are they?” Alice replied. “We are the ones who’ve been at the center of both major crises. . . . And even without that, it’s hard. Every time I send those boys out on a mission, I have to wonder if I’ve possibly sent my husband – and our closest friends – to their deaths. I know they have an important job, and I would never stop them from doing it. . .but I can’t help worrying.” She glanced at Chester, quietly playing with blocks in his playpen. “Especially now that we’ve got a child. I don’t want Chester to grow up without a father. Or a mother.”
“Do you ever regret – taking the job as their secretary?” the reporter asked, looking awkward.
Alice smirked at him. “You mean, do I ever regret deciding to marry Victor, despite what he does for a living,” she said, folding her arms. “And no to both questions. Being a part of the Ghostbusters – even just as the secretary – is an amazing experience. And Victor. . . .” She smiled, imaging his arms around her. “He’s worth all the insanity in my life. Besides, we’ve taken steps to try and ward off the worst that could happen.”
“Life insurance?”
“Yes, he does have a policy. All of them do.” Alice held up her necklace. “But I’m actually talking about making use of Doc’s and Marty’s brief time in the occult book and TV businesses, respectively. We’ve learned about and made use of lots of anti-ghost and anti-possession wards.”
“Oh, is that why the doorway flickered when I came in?”
“Pretty much.”

Yup, we're into the crossover idea I've talked about at length -- Inkbusters! In case you need a refresher: Doc, Marty, and Victor take over the roles of Ray Stantz, Peter Venkman, and Egon Spengler respectively. Victor, however, has a combined role with Louis Tully, and Alice ends up in a Dana Barret/Janine Melnitz role. Simon Garfunkle is Winston Zeddemore. Together, they fight crime ghosts.
Anyway, this is set after both movie plots, after Vigo's been defeated and the Ghostbusters are accepted as city saviors. I figured it might be interesting to do a piece on Alice and what it might be like to be married to a Ghostbuster. She and Victor have a loving relationship, but it has its trying moments.
-TTV: Not the least of which is them getting possessed and nearly destroying the world.-
Yes, and then having their kid targeted by the next world-destroyer. Fortunately, as Alice shows, they've managed to get wise and figure out how to use some of Doc's accumulated occult knowledge. I figure the Ghostbusters, if they ever got into the magic side of things, would probably appreciate some good ghost wards.
-M: I know I would.-
*nod* Not too much else to say here -- it's kind of self-explanatory, and like I said, I've rambled on enough about this particular verse that most of you can probably recognize it immediately. I will say that I'm sort of skirting the prompt here -- I didn't think it actually showed "prudence" until I came up with that stuff about the wards. It's just how the story evolved.

Interesting note -- the next story is actually also Ghostbusters. We've got a couple coming up where the virtue of one pair is linked fandom-wise to the sin of the next. Weird, huh? XD

Anyway, I got tumblr to take care of. Last thing to say is that today is Unofficial BTTF Day, so this naturally gets a 10:04 posting. XD Hooray for Back To The Future!
