Bonus Stave:
Oh no. He’d doomed his family, all for the sake of a turkey. Now Miss Strickland was going to fire him, and he’d have to scrape around for another job, and Timothy – no, he couldn’t think of it. Tim was getting better, Tim was going to be fine –
“And therefore – I am going to raise your salary!”
“Please, Miss – what?”
Miss Strickland burst into laughter and threw an arm around his shoulders. “Yes! I will raise your salary, and help your struggling family, and do a million other things to make up for all the wrongs I’ve wrought! You may sleep easily tonight, Mr. Van Dort, knowing that everything will be well!”
Victor stared at his employer, then at the ruler resting on her desk. She was his elder by about thirty years – one quick hit, and then he could run for help and a strait-waistcoat. . . .
Except she was saying things like raising his salary. And buying another coal scuttle. And helping Timothy.
Well. There were certainly worse ways for her to go mad.
*giggle* I had to do this one. I love that little moment at the end of the original story, where Bob is genuinely freaked out by Scrooge being nice and thinks he's gone mad. He gets over it pretty quick, if only because it's obvious Scrooge really has changed, but I had to play with it for this story. I actually imagine Edna showing up at the Van Dort household all smiles and happy thoughts, and Victor explaining it to Alice with a deadpan, "Well, she's gone mad, you see. But in a way that involves raising my salary." Just a bit of humor for this Christmas Day.
My Christmas has been fun. I got a couple more presents -- a nice picture from my RP friend Reenie on tumblr, of her character Alia and Forgotten Vows in their Bioshock AU forms (Little Sister and "Big Brother" (prototypical alternate Big Daddy), respectively), watching the fish outside Rapture's walls; and the DeLorean Hallmark ornament from my aunt, uncle, and cousins. I also played more Portal 2. I'm up to "The Return," shortly after Wheatley promises to help break you out. I've died a couple of times -- jumping can be hard in this game. And having to drop down is tricky sometimes too. Especially with evil water lurking below. . . I don't think it helps that I've caught myself pressing the jump button (space) while Chell is in mid-leap as if I expect it to do something. ALICE YOU HAVE RUINED ME WITH YOUR QUADRUPLE-JUMP/FLOAT ABILITY FOR LIFE. I've also been RPing most of the day -- Butterfly Boy and Delusional Beauty Alice (his tumblr girlfriend) are being adorable together, as are Butterfly Boy with Amber (another of Reenie's characters) and Forgotten Vows with Alia. Christmas: Day of Fluff!
-M2: Except for the CANNIBALISM being mentioned in the Amber thread.-
. . .Yes. Except for that. (Short story -- another character Amber is friends with was driven to eat human flesh out of sheer desperation. He's dead and a ghost now, and very ashamed of himself.)
Oh, and I gave out a couple of Christmas presents to my most-used characters: a terrarium for Butterfly Boy, and a scythe for Forgotten Vows.
-TTV: . . .What?-
After I posted the first chapter of "Forgetting You," someone asked me if Victor was going to be in Wonderland, and what his outfit and weapons would be. We got to talking, and she suggested a Vorpal Scythe. Now, I can't bring myself to give up the Vorpal Fork. . .but it did occur to me that a scythe might make a good replacement for the Hobby Horse. . .
I might fangirl on about that tomorrow. Right now, there's stuff happening on tumblr, and I've got to make sure I get to bed at a halfway-decent hour. We're going out tomorrow for some early birthday celebration (because Mom has to work the actual day). :D
Oh, one last thing before, I go off -- I just saw the latest episode of Atop The Fourth Wall.
OMG ALL THE FEELS HAAARVEEEEY *sobs* Yes, Linkara, you do have to save Santa next time! No more depressing Christmases!
