72 Holes In One Day
Jun. 17th, 2016 11:26 pmAKA, today was the great Mini-Golf Tour of Cape Cod! Your highlights:
-->Ride up was all right, though I was worried at first Mom was going to spend it all bitching about her job (which has gotten progressively more annoying, but even still). Fortunately that ended about halfway up the highway.
-->First attraction: Skull Island mini-golf! Nice place with cool decorations (including lots of "native" huts and, yes, a big old skull) and water features (including a water wheel!), and nice clean putting greens -- we suspect the place is still very new. We had a lot of fun going around all the holes and looking at all the stuff. Some nice lady even look a picture of us in front of the big skull! Hopefully I can share that with you tomorrow.
-->Second attraction: Pirate's Cove mini-golf! We actually went to the Florida location of this a while back (and I mean a WHILE; this is back when trips to Florida were still a regular thing for us), but we'd never hit the Cape Cod one. Again, great decorations (including a Captain Jack Sparrow figure!), and this one also had sound effects, plus pirate facts on every hole. There's actually two courses you can do -- we did the Classic Captain one, and we're making plans to come back in the early fall (when the tourists die down) and do the other route.
-->Lunch break: Skipper's Chowder (or something like that). Food was -- not great, but all right. Dad was disappointed in his chowder, and the barbecue wings he and Mom ordered to share didn't actually come with the sauce ON them (the waitress claimed it was because people tended to send it back because of the sauce being too hot, but my parents didn't think it hot at all). Mom's salad was good, though, and I had a turkey club that was perfectly tasty. Kettle chips could have been better, though. . . We've had much, much worse meals, though, so we were willing to give the place three stars in our review. We were actually going to eat at another restaurant, Lindsey's (where Dad says they make the BEST clam chowder he's ever eaten), but unfortunately we had decided to do the courses going from the furthest and working our way back, and Lindsey's happened to be at the end of the line, so there was no way we were getting there in time for lunch. That's the second reason we're going back in the fall -- so I can actually have a meal there.
-->Third Attraction: Putter's Paradise mini-golf! Cheapest of the lot, especially since we had a coupon for a dollar off per person. This was also, unfortunately, the el-Cheapo of the lot, with simplistic decorations and rather dirty greens -- saw ants running all over them regularly. But they did have some challenging holes, and I liked their mountain waterfall and the fisherman and white whale fountains.
-->Fourth Attraction: Wild Animal Lagoon mini-golf! Another fun stop, with lots of animal statues (not quite as good as some of the decorations we've seen, but still nice), animal facts scattered throughout the course, and a fake crashed plane on top of their main water feature. XD Plus the game comes with an extra element of interest -- some holes have little spinners with extra challenges/gameplay additions on them that you can try while going along. We didn't do any this time, but Dad says we should go back at some point and give it a whirl. Maybe that can be our other activity during the fall return trip.
-->Ice Cream Break: Right next to Wild Animal Lagoon is The Big Scoop -- Dad spotted the place and announced he was in the mood for a shake. I was too, and as I had some money on me (I'd brought my wallet to at least offer to pay my end -- ended up contributing $20 to lunch), I offered to treat. Dad and I got Frappes (him plain chocolate, me chocolate peanut butter cup -- apparently that's my flavor of the week), and Mom got a Diet Pepsi. Frappes were delicious~ Good end to the day.
So yeah, very nice day out! I even got to wear my "adventure hat" (purchased back when Mom and I hit Florida for the car show where I met Christopher Lloyd :D) and my new Hershey's shirt. I should finally have pictures to share tomorrow. Right now, though, I'm doing my usual rounds catching up on stuff I've missed. Night all!
EDIT: Oh yeah, one other thing quick -- finished edits on Chapter 3 of "In The Land of the Dead!" So that'll be going up at the end of this week. Plan to start Chapter 4 tomorrow and actually get a buffer going. w000!
