Cleaning, Chores, And Videos Saturday
Jan. 31st, 2026 11:47 pmYeah, today was not the most productive Saturday of my life by any means -- but then again, I hadn't planned on it being so. My three big goals were to clean my room, pay my car insurance bill and renew my car's registration, and catch up on a bunch of videos on FreeTube, and I'm happy to say I accomplished all three --
Cleaning & Laundry: Once again, this took much more of the day than I’d hoped, thanks to a combination of the following factors:
I. Getting a bit of a later start than I’d intended (despite getting up earlier than I’d expected) because I wanted to be ready to help Dad if he needed it while Mom ran out to get the rest of his medications (fortunately he did okay today – he’s eating a little more, which is good)
II. Having to bring down my laundry earlier than expected because Mom had done an early load and asked me before I’d gotten my bed properly stripped if I could go down and check it; I decided I might as well bring my stuff down while I was doing that and hastily pulled all the sheets and blankets off (this eventually led to be being done with the laundry before the dusting)
III. Lunch taking a little longer than usual because, well, Dad’s sick and that makes things take longer as we make sure he’s doing all right
IV. And me listening to hbomberguy’s old “Fallout: New Vegas Is Genius – And Here’s Why” video on my phone while I cleaned, which was great but kind of distracting at times when I wanted to see what was actually going on on the screen/had to rewind a bit to properly hear something he said
So yeah, all that combined means that I started at maybe 10:40 AMish, and didn’t finish until 3 PMish. Pretty long cleaning day! *sigh* Hopefully the next one will take less time...we’ll see what happens!
Car Insurance & Registration Renewal: Did this right after I got on the computer post-cleaning – the insurance bill had to be paid immediately because it was due on the 2nd (and the jerks only sent me the bill yesterday), while the registration technically didn’t expire until the end of February, but I didn’t want to forget and figured while I was doing the insurance I should do that too. Both went pretty smoothly, and now I have a fully-insured and renewed car. *nods* Good.
FreeTube: Well, I’d expected to have a CaFae Latte compilation to watch tonight, but apparently C. M. Alongi didn’t do one of those for the latest season this Saturday. So instead I spent my afternoon/night catching up on some of the OXBoxtra videos I’ve missed over the past couple of weeks –
A) “7 Red Flags We Should Have Spotted” – Mike, Andy, and Jane talking about those secret video game villains who the player should have guessed were villains before the reveal thanks to a subtle clue or two that they weren’t on the up-and-up. Like noticing that, during Geralt’s second meeting with his detective buddy Raymond in the original The Witcher, his monster-and-magic-detecting medallion was vibrating like crazy in the corner – a sign that trickery was afoot, and Raymond had unfortunately been killed and replaced by an impostor using illusion magic! Or that Albert Wesker in the original Resident Evil slipped away from places he promised to stay without a real explanation why, and insisted they continue the mission no matter what despite the casualties taken by both STARS teams – a sign that he was secretly working for the evil organization behind the zombies, Umbrella! Or that original Call of Duty: Black Ops protagonist Alex Mason’s friend Victor Reznov keeps magically disappearing and reappearing at important moments in his life – a sign that the guy pushing Mason to kill all the people who wronged him is in fact a hallucination, and Mason’s been doing all the murdering himself! ...Wait, hang on, he can’t be a villain if he doesn’t exist – is the red flag we should have noticed is MASON never truly questioning the appearing/disappearing acts? And the fact his friend always looks the same age-wise? O.o I don’t think Call of Duty was meant to answer such questions.
B) “7 Times the Computer was a Killstealing Bastard” – Ellen and Mike complaining about those times when an NPC managed to killsteal you in a boss fight, securing the all-important final blow on the boss you worked so hard to take down! Like when your player character in Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks manages to get within inches of getting a fatality on big bad Goro – only for Johnny Cage to rush in and kick him to death for you, the sunglasses-wearing dickweed! Or when your party in Neo: The World Ends With You manages to empty the health bar of former-ally-turned-major-enemy Minamimoto – only for your party members to go “wait, no, he’s completely unstoppable, one of us must stay behind and make a heroic sacrifice while the others flee,” followed by the game then throwing the hero of the FIRST World Ends With You game at the boss and having them defeat him instantly! Double whammy! Or when you have Kratos in God of War Ragnarok beat up Thor before talking him down from his rage – only for Odin to show up, demand Thor kill Kratos, then murder him when he says no! ...Okay, that one is less a “killsteal” and more a “hey, I fucking defused the situation, what gives,” but same principle! Bottom line, that shit’s annoying, and games need to cut it out.
C) “7 Pointless Gaming Facts That Live in Our Heads Rent Free” – Andy, Mike, and Jane giving us a few random facts and bits of interesting trivia that they haven’t yet been able to fit into any of their other list videos! Did you know that the voice of Daddy Pig in the Peppa Pig series, Richard Ridings, is also the voice of the Mentor in the various Dungeon Keeper games, most notably Dungeon Keeper 2? How about that, after beating the game, you can unlock a special mode in Shenmue that guarantees that the weather in your next playthrough matches the actual weather for the locations you visit in 1986 (as pulled from various historical meterological reports)? Or that Prince apparently helped playtest The Oregon Trail, as he was attending the high school where it was originally developed at the time? Or that Vault Boy from Fallout was apparently based on/inspired by Rich Uncle Pennybags, aka the Monopoly guy? That one was a bonus fact Andy threw in before the list itself! Isn’t he nice. :)
D) “We Apply for the Fallout Reality TV Show” – Jane takes Ellen, Mike, and Andy through the application for the upcoming Fallout Shelter reality TV show being created by Amazon Prime! Yes, this is apparently a real thing that is happening, and they are promising a “huge cash prize” (amount unspecified) to whoever wins their silly little game where people are stuck in a fake vault and have to compete in games that test their SPECIAL stats and create alliances and whatnot. Jane found where one could fill out the application, and subjected her coworkers to it in case they were interested in being stuck in a hole in the ground and experimented on. XD Highlights of the video included (not in chronological order, just in the order I decided to list them):
I. Andy being like “...haven’t they made like six games about why this is a bad idea” and going completely over the top in response to each question to sabotage his chances – for example, while pitching himself as a potential player, saying that if the vault opened up a secret room full of drugs, while the others were arguing about whether or not to take the drugs, he would do all the drugs and then grab an axe and murder everyone else while they tried to hide in the vents from him XD
II. Jane pop-quizzing everyone on what SPECIAL meant, and Mike correctly rattling off all the stats – except that he switched Intelligence and Charisma, so he actually spelled out SPEICAL, which he got lightly teased for
III. Andy calling out Jane for not answering the questions, and Jane insisting that she was going to be the Vault Overseer – or, as per a later section where they had to do a “one minute video” on why they should be in the vault, the charismatic cult leader
IV. Ellen going from saying that she’s smart, capable, and likes logic puzzles in the early part of the video to describing herself as a “tryhard teacher’s pet” later on – she also stressed what a wimp she was about jump scares and the like and that they’d get loads of great reaction shots from her (like projectile vomiting if she saw a radscorpion thanks to her arachnophobia, or screaming in terror as Andy murdered Mike)
V. Jane reading out the question about Luck – essentially “tell us about a time that you were really lucky or made your own luck” – and Mike and Andy immediately objecting to the “make your own luck” bit, noting that was going to attract the type of asshole who ends up on The Apprentice; Andy’s later impersonation of one made Jane go “oh, they’ll want you on the show just to make you suffer”
VI. When confronted with the question of what faction they most identified with, the gang somehow confusing the Followers Of The Apocalypse (a nice faction made up largely of doctors and scientists trying to help people that appear in the West Coast-focused games; they’re in Fallout: New Vegas and Courier Victor will be becoming a member in good standing) and the Children of Atom (a faction made up of people who worship radiation and are somehow immune to its effects, and can be either just goofy weirdos or dangerous monsters depending on the game) by claiming to be part of the former because they were bathing in the radiation of the fake mini-nuke Jane had put on the table for ambiance – someone in the comments pointed out that Amazon was unlikely to notice, though :p
VII. From that same question, Andy pretending to be a fan of Caesar’s Legion and saying he loves to crucify people, and Mike admitting that he’d compromise his morals and join the Brotherhood of Steel for one of their mech suits
VIII. Jane ending the video asking if everyone was ready to get into a vault made by Amazon and everyone’s expressions indicating that no, no they were NOT XD
Good, silly stuff! I don’t think they’re seriously applying, obviously – though if one of them DOES end up on the show, for whatever reason, I hope they cause as many shenanigans as possible. :p
Writing: Didn’t do any proper writing today – too tired after all the cleaning (plus, you know, I got to bed WAAAY too late last night), but I did at least put all of Courier Victor’s starting stats (SPECIAL, Skills, and Traits) into the F:NV Master Doc I’m trying to make up. So that was something, and I’m glad of it.
*nods* Very simple, fairly chill day, and I'm happy with that. Tomorrow I will attempt to do more -- maybe start on some Valicertines? Valentine's Day is looming, after all... Also gotta get back to editing "Londerland Bloodlines: Downtown Queensland" Chapter 6, and I'd like to play some Portal 2 -- and, of course, it should be F:NV YOLO Remastered day, so that'll be fun. :) We'll see what I get accomplished! Night all!
