Work Remains Stressful

Now another person is out on medical leave, and apparently the big boss wants to -- not immediately, but eventually -- change over all the systems we're using and switch to something else that he thinks is better. With more consultants, and more out-of-office processing, and all that jazz. So yeah, tension everywhere, my coworkers are all anxious, I'm all anxious, it's -- *sigh* Can we just skip straight to February now?

Was also a pretty distracted night as a result -- I got more written on my comfort project, though. Not a full page, but -- eh. Writing was done. And I got some of my upcoming Newcrest Adventures mega-update on Emma's birthday party drafted, so that's good, at least. It just -- wasn't a particularly good night for the thinking, you know? Hasn't really been a good week for it. At least tonight wasn't a Valice Multiverse queue night -- dunno if I could have concentrated well enough. And I got to watch a funny video on fictional languages in video games, courtesy of the Oxtra team. So that was nice.

Anyway -- got one thing to handle in my inbox, then I'm going to bed. Two more days. . .we'll see how they go. Night all.

Good luck with a new system. Mom's department is still having trouble with theirs and, well, you've read my handwritten entries about mine.

Anyways, I was re-reading "In the Land of the Dead" on your site and I caught a goof I didn't see before.

"We were probably unconscious for it anyway," Arthur admitted, flexing his toasted fingers. "It wasn't the fire so much as the smoke that got us in the end. "By the time I woke up I was already feeling pretty leathery."

You have open quotes twice. Oh, and I found where the spare set of quotes goes. :p

I have indeed, and -- yeah. It isn't going to be for a little bit yet, but I'm trying to prepare myself for when it happens. (Not that I particularly like our CURRENT system, but still.)

Blah! Well, at least they aren't completely missing words or all that. . .can you give me chapter references, though, so I don't have to go looking through the entire fic for those two lines? I mean, I can guess at context, particularly with the second one, but I can't remember exactly where they are.

I just had a thought...why does June call BJ Jeremy if his mom uses Sam?

Basically, back when I first started writing this series, I was intending to obscure the fact that June and Bonejangles were siblings up until the point Victor and Alice met Bonejangles again in "Fixing You" and discovered his last name was Thatcher and he had a little sister named June. Things didn't quite work out that way (because a) I'm terrible at keeping secrets while writing and b) people quickly noticed that June and Bonejangles had the same last name), but I at least wanted to keep the funny moment of the characters discovering Bonejangles's hated first name. I'm still working on the proper motivation for her calling him Jeremy, not Sam -- currently I've got it as she heard somewhere (probably Pastor Galswells) it was rude to call the deceased by a nickname. Although I might also have it being her being confused as to why everyone was calling him by his middle name instead of his first, and thinking "oh come on, nobody could hate 'Jeremy' that much. . .and he's dead, what does it matter?"

Yeah, I figured it was in-character for No-Fun Galswells. :p And LOL, I see. To be fair it was just a couple of close readers who pounced on the last name thing, but still. You know me -- I'm terrible at keeping spoilers on my own stories to myself. :p
