Canobie Lake Park: Just For Fun!
Aug. 19th, 2018 11:22 pmThat's apparently their motto -- I heard it a lot today, as you might imagine. :) Today's grand finale to my vacation week went very well! We left early, about eight, and -- despite getting slightly lost on the way up thanks to Mom missing the exit she intended to take and having to calculate another route with Siri -- still got to the park just as it was starting to open up to the public. This served us very well on getting on some of the rides, as you might imagine -- the place ended up pretty damn packed as the day went on. We hit, in order:
Yankee Cannonball: A big wooden coaster near the front of the park. We actually went on this twice; once at the very beginning of the day and once in the afternoon. Line was WAAAAY longer the second time.
Starblaster: One of those "shoot up, drop, bounce" tower rides; my first time on one. It was surprisingly fun, though my heart nearly leapt out of my chest when we first shot up, let me tell you!
Sky Ride: Another aerial tram like the Skyfari at Southwick, only a lot shorter. Fun, but it's the sort of thing you only go on once.
Untamed: A more modern roller coaster, with a first drop that was damn near VERTICAL going up and coming down, not to mention two big loops. My parents talked me into this one, and I agreed as it was a seat-based coaster, instead of one that straps you in and lets your feet dangle. Like Starblaster, it was terrifying, but I still enjoyed it.
Da Vinci's Dream: One of those rides that's basically a swing carousel, that spins around really fast and makes everybody "fly" for a bit, with a Da Vinci styling theme. I enjoy these, so that was fun.
Blue Heron Lake Cruise: Basically a big boat ride around Canobie Lake. It was nice, but it was also unguided, so there wasn't much to do except look at all the houses on the other sides of the lake. Still, if you just want to relax on the water for half-an-hour. . .
Canobie Corkscrew: Another coaster, whose claim to fame is two corkscrews right in a row. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a rough coaster that kind of banged you around while you rode, so none of us liked it much.
Giant Sky Wheel: AKA Bertha -- a nice, standard Ferris wheel that gave us a good view of the park.
Pirate Ship: Again, your standard "big ass swing" ride, which was naturally pirate-ship-themed. I like these too -- we got super high up on it.
Policy Pond Log Flume: A fun little log flume ride that we went on to round out the day. Had some good drops, and we got pretty wet, though not fully soaked. We also got our souvenirs from this ride, as it has a photo op thing -- we got our pictures made into a pair of keychains, one for me and one for Mom.
So yeah -- very full day! We didn't end up leaving until about 6, which put us home at about 8. I had a lot of fun -- though I will say that the food service at the park wasn't the greatest. I think waiting in line to pick up some chicken from one of the little restaurants was the longest wait we had in the park before hitting Yankee Cannonball again. And Dad nearly got gypped out of his ice cream because the people scooping it in the place we went to didn't quite have their act together. Food in both cases was perfectly serviceable, but -- yeah. Maybe avoid the Chicken Coop and Yankee Whaler if you go there. (Isn't it weird that, in all of our family trips, one of the main sticking points has been food? I think we're a bit spoiled by Mom's cooking being so good.)
But besides that, very solid day -- even if I did get sunburned too. Unfortunately didn't think about sunscreen when we left today. . .it's not too bad, at least. Hopefully most of it will fade sooner rather than later. And I got home in time to do what I said I was going to do and set up my RP tumblr queue and answer messages. I even snuck in a couple of videos -- The Sim Supply trying (and failing hilariously) to put a million fans on the biggest Sims 4 lot (since he's so close to a million subscribers); and "Call Me Kevin" playing the game "House Flipper" (where you clean, decorate, and sell houses at auction) and being very silly about all of it XD No writing, but I wasn't expecting to have time for that. My catching up on RP stuff will have to suffice.
Speaking of which, I DO still have a comment in the inbox, so I'm going to have to take care of that before going to bed. Back to work tomorrow. . .ugh. Hopefully it won't be a complete clusterfuck. At least it's really nice out tonight -- humidity's dried up, and temperatures are reasonable! And I should be tired enough to manage a decent night's sleep. *nods* Night all!
