Just Saw "The Incredibles"
Nov. 8th, 2004 03:59 pmNot exactly what we were expecting -- we were thinking more of a spoof, but they played it mostly straight. It's kinda like a long Saturday morning cartoon. Not a bad way to spend a couple of hours, but Pixar has done better.
-D: In other words, it's not "Shrek" or "Finding Nemo," but it's fun.-
Marvel fans, you might find that the Incredible family feels familiar as well (hint: what's another word that can mean "incredible?")
The real shocker, though, was from the previews. Specifically, one preview.
applescruffs85, they ARE making a sequel to The Mask. It's called "Son of The Mask," and it brings back the whole "Loki" thing they kinda cut out of movie number 1. *headdesk* Why am I getting such nasty vibes from it?
-D: Because you're a fan of the original movie and Jim Carrey?-
Bingo. I don't think this one's gonna be any good. *blargh*
So, anyway, that's the movie report. Back to work on getting stuff up on my webpage.
EDIT: Inspired by superheroes:

I told you!!!
Date: 2004-11-08 03:23 pm (UTC)I'm curious, though, they did talk about Loki in The Mask (I refuse to call it "the first one" because I refuse to accept "the second one" :P), so was there more about Loki than was in the movie? (You said that they cut some of it out...?)
Man, I can just see myself yelling at the preview (as of right now, I have no idea what it's about, but I'm assuming): "WTF? Loki was banished into the mask, he can't have a son! Damn you, dancing baby!!"
Was there anything about the original characters coming back?
lol, sorry to go into a rant/question drill, but I'm curious, as The Mask is one of my favorite movies. (My roommmate

Date: 2004-11-08 08:16 pm (UTC)As for the Loki thing, they did have a different beginning that the filmed about the vikings banishing the mask to America -- it's on The Mask DVD. There's also the fact that, until I saw it on the DVD, I'd always seen The Mask on television, and they cut out the scene with the shrink that explains more about Loki. For me, the cut version is the normal version. *blush*
I didn't see one original character in that preview -- the closest is the new dog, Otis, to Milo. Pathetic.
Re: I told you!!!
Date: 2004-11-09 06:50 am (UTC)It surprises me that Ben Stein (the "Bueller...Bueller" guy) is in it, but it probably shouldn't, since it's not uncommon for him to do cameos...
Well, my friend and I went to see Dumb and Dumberer when it came out. I thought it could be good because Eugene Levy and some people from SNL were in it, but it still sucked.
I'm really surprised to hear that the TV version of The Mask cuts out the part between Jim Carrey and Ben Stein. I mean, it's not particularly relevant to the story itself, but the information about Loki helps the audience understand why the mask is the way it is, and it's still a pretty funny scene...
You know what's weird, though, I remember seeing a scene where thugs steal Stanley's watch right before he gets back to his apartment after he gets the mask, but I don't think I've seen any kind of special making-of show about the movie. I swear I saw that scene in the movie--maybe it was still in the movie when they released it in theaters? It kind of made the "Hey mister, you got the time?" scene make more sense because it showed that the mask allowed him to get revenge on people who were mean to him. Oh well.
Ugh. I can't believe Loki's going to be a character this time. Gag me, please.
