Saturday To-Dos Tackled
Mar. 21st, 2020 11:30 pmFrom yesterday's list at sign-off:
A room clean: Got that done with a break just before the end of the dusting for lunch. Mom actually cleaned up the rest of the house (all, uh, four rooms of it), so it was a group clean today! Gotta keep the place neat, ya know.
Catching up on Linkara: Watched the latest episode, which featured Miles Morales making a deal with Mephisto -- in a miniseries that essentially is the opposite of "One More Day." Largely because it wasn't a stupid deal to save an old woman at the cost of a well-established loving marriage and the timeline, but rather a panicked deal to save two fallen teammates where Mephisto's payment wasn't a soul but Miles's anguish over not having saved someone he rescued in the previous go-round (the deal was to reverse time to the start of the mission where the teammates got killed to give it another go). Good, if angsty, stuff, and it was nice to see Linkara review it and sum up why it's the better story.
...and OXBox: Four list videos that were waiting in my Watch Later --
A) Sniping missions in video games that revealed characters as shockingly good snipers (because realistic sniping is painful and you want your players to actually enjoy themselves)
B) Multiplayer modes that were cool but unfortunately didn't become common (like Assassin's Creed's multiplayer where, to pull off stealthy and careful kills of other players, you basically had to pretend to be one of many identical NPCs and scan all the others for suspicious behavior -- not that everybody DID this, of course :p)
C) Self-made achievements the team were proud of (such as spending an absurd amount of time fishing in original-flavor WoW for Jane, playing a James Bond game as a melee-killing machine for Mike, or making sure to close all safe doors and such while being super stealthy in the Dishonored games for Ellen -- hey, it's just good etiquette!)
D) Games that punished you for cheating in firm but kinda fun ways (like the game exploding you or taking away all your weapons if you put in the wrong cheat code in Heretic, or condemning you to "The Serious Room" in The Stanley Parable)
All good fun, as usual :)
Fallout 4: Advanced Ada's quest a little more -- after a detour involving having to go defend Tenpines Bluff (fortunately, this attack was HUMAN enemies -- Gunners, according to the settlers there) and then having to fight off Super Mutants back at the Red Rocket (Dogmeat was a Good Boy again; I have also installed protective turrets around the place because two attacks in a row? Not good). But I got the Robot Workbench built, installed the beacon on Ada, and -- well, technically FINISHED the quest we were on; the next one is called "Headhunting" and it involves hunting down Robobrains for more beacons so we can get a bead on the Mechanist's location.
HOWEVER -- thanks to the game going "Oh, you have to go put more beds in the Castle even though they totally have enough," I ended up picking up two more Minutemen side quests. And I decided -- you know what? I'm gonna take Preston and clear these out to up our affinity a little more. Also take care of that one side quest he assigned me AGES ago. So I headed over to Sanctuary, upgraded some of the guns and such I'd picked up (Codsworth saw and now he admires me, which is nice), and swapped Ada for Preston (sending her to wait for me to pick up her quests again at the Red Rocket -- now Dogmeat has a friend!). I ended the day with clearing out his inventory (I have picked up SO many guns and random pieces of clothing; really need to scrap or sell some of them), and now I'm preparing to head to Sunshine Co-Op since it's closest. At some point, I have to actually end "The Lost Patrol" too. . .maybe I'll do that alone so I don't have any companions passing moral judgement on my lack of success on charisma checks. So many sidequests, so little time!
Next chapter of "Secundus 2" up on AO3: Enjoy the Tannens trying some not-very-successful revenge! Also Doc and Marty telling how they met, in a clear adaptation of the comic's version of same. :p
So yeah, solid Saturday! Plus I got to listen to some good music, rewatch a favorite OK-GO music video, and found a nice soundtrack compilation featuring music from Fallouts 3, New Vegas, and 4, so that'll go in my "Favorite Reading Music" playlist, I think. Now time to answer comments and do the usual Saturday night things. Tomorrow is Sims time -- got a new "Rags to Repayment episode, plus some other fun stuff waiting in Watch Later. Plus my own playtime to think about -- gotta try again with the cursed weenie roasts. XD Night all!
