Good News And Bad News
May. 25th, 2020 11:18 pmGood News: I had a fairly productive Memorial Day, managing to catch up on a bunch of my videos on YouTube and play BOTH Sims 4 and Fallout 4! :D
Bad News: . . .I'm feeling -- "congested" isn't quite the right word, but it comes close. It's nothing major -- I'm a touch sniffly, and it feels a bit like I've got some gunk stuck at the very top of my throat that necessitates throat clearing from time to time. I'm just -- well, you know. In the current climate, it could be hay fever, a cold, or -- that. (I'm also kinda thirsty, but THAT I can put down to the fact that I should be getting my period fairly soon and I always get extra thirsty in the days before it starts.) I don't have any major urge to cough or anything like that, and I don't have a fever. . .I dunno. We'll see how I feel in the morning. (REALLY hoping it's just the hay fever option. . .)
Anyway -- let's try to focus on the more pleasant stuff instead of falling into anxiety spirals over this, all righty?
-->. . .I say that, and then I start off by telling you all it was kind of gloomy today -- no rain, but it kept looking like it was gonna. Meh. I did a quick workout inside and otherwise just hung out.
-->As mentioned, busy frickin' day on YouTube:
A) Three Fallout 4 videos from NPC Wars – Deathclaws vs Institute (there was a lot of dismemberment, death, and destruction (including that of Father), but eventually the Institute's crappy lasers won); 100+ Ghouls vs the Brotherhood of Steel (two rounds – the first the BoS won through sheer determination and miniguns; the second the ghouls won mainly through having more Glowing Ones to heal the fallen); and Raiders vs Minutemen (three rounds, and the Minutemen continually trounced the Raiders until the Raiders got Fat Man launchers on their side – ended with the last Minuteman booking it and having to be hunted down by the raiders). So that was fun XD
B) Three James Turner videos as I work to catch up on his uploads regarding Eco Lifestyle:
1. A tour of the new world that comes with the pack, Evergreen Harbor – has one super-polluted neighborhood, one neutral neighborhood, and one green neighborhood. Also a lot of cool detailing (part of the world is a quarry; another is an abandoned train station; still another is a closed-down port), but kind of lacking on the lots – it really does make me sad to see lots of nice fake houses where real ones could have gone. *sigh* I'm still eager to get the expansion, but world size and prioritizing scenery over lots continues to be an issue. Meh.
2. And two episodes of his mini-LP "Wax To Riches," starring the "James Burner" version of his self Sim! This is a quick "rags to riches" challenge using his early-access version of the pack (which is just base game and Eco Lifestyle), where he intends for Burner to get rich selling candles, making other items, and dumpster diving. So far, he's found a bunch of good stuff in dumpsters (including a toilet and a sink!); gotten a candle-making station and a selling table; pushed through a neighborhood action plan that allows him to just take stuff from others and stole a juice-fizzing machine from another lot (and had his sink stolen after he hosted a yard sale to sell the juice and candles); and got a call saying he was eligible for a massive inheritance if and only if he got married in the next week. Cue him talking up a woman named Heidi and winning her over with, of all things, dumpster woohoo. XD Unfortunately, the event appears to be bugged, and he didn't actually get the money after marrying her. :( Unlucky, James! But there's still four episodes to go according to James (he prerecorded these earlier this month), so hopefully Burner will bounce back.
C) A video on the "Mobile Mechanic" mod for Fallout 4 (made by the same guy who made the camping mod I'm trying out in my game currently -- see below), which gives you a mobile work bench and various kits you can make for it to scrap and mod stuff on the go! I am quite intrigued by this, as I feel it might suit my Sole Survivor Victor (who I headcanon as a mechanic/gunsmith/kind of general Mr. Fixit to go along with my general love of armor and weapon modding) and go well with the camping stuff. Just have to remember that I need to use CHEM benches to make the things, not the usual all-purpose workbench.
D) A video from Carl's Sims Guides about the Veterinarian career from Cats & Dogs – he is not a fan. Too repetitive, too easy to guess the pet's symptoms, very low pay (at least to start out with). More fuel for my "active careers just get boring too fast; we should move to careers that just have active DAYS" fire. And another reason for me not to run a vet clinic (the first being none of my Sims want to be vets :p)
E) And a video from Plumbella where she revealed another evil shell challenge she created to help distract her and us from the quarantine – this one with even more triangle sections, and an open basement round the front! XD Evil evil evil~ Though she did manage to turn it into a pretty restaurant in Sulani in her own speed-build for it, so I guess there's hope yet. (I'm just waiting for LilSimsie's reaction video. . .)
-->In Sims 4, I played through Eric celebrating Harvestfest! Nothing too special -- one of his new friends dropped by on her own for the morning, and then I had him throw a quick house party in the afternoon for Nikal, Katy Woo the alien veterinarian, and Otis and Brooklyn Stephens (the former he met at the flea market, the latter is his coworker). They had a nice time, though I had to keep moving the fridge so no one got food before Eric finished cooking his grand meal. XD And, uh, Katy Woo pulled the "memory erase" trick on Eric too. >.< I HAVE to find something that stops aliens using that ability autonomously. This keeps going on, I'm going to be too AFRAID to play the Newcrest Van Dorts, because I'll feel like I can't trust Emma not to do this! *deep sigh* Damn game. . . (Also, it seems like "ungoaled" parties are now just treating you like you got a "bronze" on them when they complete -- eh, free Charisma book to sell, I suppose!)
-->In Fallout 4, I installed two more mods that I tested by going pretty much all the way back to the BEGINNING of my current save file -- when Victor just entered Sanctuary post-Vault 111! The reason for this is that both were mods where I needed to get something from a certain location:
A) The "Worthwhile Caps Stash" mod, which gives you extra items whenever you pick up a stash of caps (at the very least, you always get the tin the caps were in) -- I knew there was a stash somewhere in Sanctuary that I could use, but when I checked my Pip-Boy, I realized I'd already looted it. Fortunately, looking up where other stashes were revealed there was a secret stash of three not too far from the neighborhood! So I went exploring, killed some mole rats, and found the stashes (after releasing them from their vacuum-sealed container). And indeed, I got stuff like a bunch of cigarettes along with the caps. XD Good times!
B) The "Campsite -- Simple Wasteland Camping" mod, which adds a book and camping equipment you can craft and use out in the world, so you don't always have to fast-travel to a settlement to sleep! The book's in the root cellar in Sanctuary, and you can make both portable versions of the objects, and ones that can be placed and used in settlements. I -- forgot about that last portion, and ended up making a tent that can only be used in Sanctuary. XD Oops. Like I said above after reviewing the "Mobile Mechanic" mod by the same guy, have to remember -- the portable versions live at the CHEM benches. (Which are -- kind of badly named, as you make all sorts of stuff at them. . .though I guess the full name is the CHEMISTRY bench, which justifies stuff like fireworks and explosives. . .not so much camping equipment, but what can one do?). I'll see about making some of the portable stuff on another day.
-->Related to the Sims 4 stuff, I've set up my Newcrest Adventures update in the Victor Luvs Alice queue, showing off the new A-Maze-Ing Wonderland (after taking a couple of better pictures of the basement Queensland bit). Got all pictures sorted for both, and captions on one -- should be able to finish up the update and see about throwing more stuff in the pot tomorrow!
-->And, as usual, I wrote a bit more on Alice's Adventures In Ocean House -- she's following the signs of Dorothy to navigate the hotel, and has just reached the bar and found the newspaper stating how the "Ocean House Killer" was probably responsible for the fire that torched the place. Now she just has to convince herself to use the dumbwaiter to go down further so she can chase down all the plot crumbs. XD And I, unfortunately, have to find another video to get through the rest of the Ocean House stuff, as the next part in Helloween's Malkavian LP is blocked for some reason (I suspect because of the music in the Asylum?). Could try his original Tremere LP, I suppose?
Okay -- time to answer what's in the inbox, then head to bed. Back to work tomorrow, in one form or another -- I'm feeling less sniffly already, so that's a good sign. Again, we'll see how I feel in the morning. If I have to work from home, I have to work from home. *shrug* Night all!
