Pretty Damn Nice Friday
Jul. 31st, 2020 11:43 pmWith a few moments like my parents coming back with some grocery shopping like JUST AFTER I'd made my smoothie breakfast -- that was a little annoying. But for the most part, I can't really complain about my day:
-->Had said nice smoothie breakfast while hanging out and listening to music
-->Watched WALL*E with lunch as promised, along with the two shorts that come on the main DVD (Presto, the theatrical short that aired right before the movie about a magician learning why you always feed the rabbit who comes out of your hat before the show; and BURN-E, the short specifically made for the DVD about the welding robot who got locked out when EVE and WALL*E went back into the Axiom after "Define Dancing"). It was a good time, and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the movie again. It's so cute! I love those little robots and their love story. :)
-->We did play the beanbag game! For it was hot outside, but the humidity was actually tolerable, so playing in the shade was doable. We were all a little rusty at first (it's been at least a week since we played, and probably over that), but by the third game we were all doing a lot better. Dad won all three games -- I came in second on the first game, and Mom came in second on the next two. *shrug* How it goes! Hopefully we can play again tomorrow and I can make a better showing.
-->I watched plenty of YouTube as well:
A) I did watch a bunch of WALL*E clips and the like last night, but the official list today started with a video somebody made comparing the shots from WALL*E to the shots from the movie in BURN-E, the companion short. It was pretty neat, even as it proved that BURN-E's timeline does not match up properly with the movie's at all, unless certain moments happened a lot quicker than they look like they do in the movie proper! Either that or it takes BURN-E a lot longer to get from SUPPLY-R to his light than it looks like, which is also possible – it seems to be quite the trip! And I think if you tried to edit the short into the movie, it actually wouldn't be that hard. . .hmmm. Wonder if anybody's tried.
B) Then it was onto an OXBox video about seven vehicle sections in video games better than dedicated driving games! A list only done because Mike is off this week, and thus cannot yell at Andy and Jane for including things like slot car racing (Yazuka series), shield surfing (Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild), and hijacking the body of a roly-poly walrus creature (Super Mario Odyssey). XD Yeah, stretching the definition of "vehicle" there for sure, but on the other hand, they all look like fun mini-games, so isn't that the real point? . . .I expect angry words from Mike when he comes back. XD
C) Then, seeing as it took me a while to get back to YouTube once I'd done my writing and all that, I decided on a GrayStillPlays marathon over Linkara (as it was somewhat shorter). Our games tonight:
1. Toilet Management Simulator – Yes, SERIOUSLY. It's one of those "thrown together using three assets, duct tape, and prayers" games, and it's all about managing your own public toilet! With the help of the homeless guy who lives in the alley outside and will give you tips about manipulating the water and power hook-ups so you don't have to pay! Also, there's a "dance studio" across from your house where you can hire girls to come and twerk for you, for the low price of $50 and a can of beans! . . .Yes, it is very much a Gray game, and yes, he had a lot of fun making up those toilets and hiring those girls. XD
2. Factory Runner – Another game in the above genre, only in Unreal instead of Unity, and about managing a big box store with the eventual goal of owning your own factory to produce goods! Except Gray proved to be a lot more interested in answering the following questions: "Can I piss on customers whenever I please?" (Yes) "How many giant burgers can I buy in the fast food place?" (Enough to completely cover the person at the counter in a massive pile of meat) "Can I crash the game by buying five million ladders?" (More or less – it goes down to like two fps). Basically it was complete chaos and I completely approve. XD
3. More Happy Wheels – Look, I've said before this weird-ass murder sim is like Gray's perfect game, sooo. . . The theme of the episode was SUPPOSED to be "doing well by the children for a change," but I'm not entirely sure Gray succeeded in fulfilling it. Mostly because it's Happy Wheels and if your characters aren't exploding from being shot by harpoons or smashed onto swinging balls, you're not doing it right. Honestly, the real theme of the episode was "Gray tears his hair out trying to complete really hard boards where you have to race across bottles or navigate a really horrible obstacle course with heat-seeking sticky bombs." It was loads of fun. :D
D) And then, as a last-minute entry to the list, a tumblr friend recommended to me OverlySarcastic's trope video on dragons! Which basically gave a list of cool mythological dragons, discussed many of the things commonly associated with dragons in modern fiction (and which are commonly subverted today), and talked about how dragons are awesome because they're so varied and thus easily represent the endless possibilities of fantasy. It was a nice little video, especially for someone like me who does like a good dragon. :) (Actually, I'm cuddling one of my toy dragons right now – D.B., the space dragon I got from Dave & Buster's at the beginning of the year.)
-->Played some Fallout 4, testing out a mod that allows more realistic conversations between settlers (seems to be working, heard some nice chatter between some folks at my settlements -- Marcy Long DOES seem to care about her husband, for all that she's kind of a bitch) and updating my "CWSS Redux" mod with what I THOUGHT was the latest update. . .yeah, turns out there was ANOTHER one just the other day. *grumbles* I need to start checking all the mods I use like once a week to see if they've updated. CWSS Redux is the one that adds new stuff the most often, but still -- gotta keep on top of this stuff! Anyway, the session went well -- in the save I'm using, Piper now idolizes me and I've got her special perk, and we've helped out some settlements with more defense and new bathroom stuff. :p I continue to love my new backpack mod which gives me all the carrying capacity. :) Nice not to have to worry so much about that!
-->And then checking my webcomics this evening led to me going on some archive trawls through one of them, meaning I'm now scrambling a bit to get everything sorted on Valice Multiverse (I have a LOT of anon asks over there, and I am getting increasingly sour with tumblr's inability to tell me the CORRECT number when I first load up my dash -- initially it said four, but there's actually NINE) and Victor Luvs Alice (I AM set through Saturday, at least -- I just want to throw up something for the first part of Sunday too!). What I get, I suppose. . .at least it is the weekend and I can stay up late to get this stuff done! And then sleep in afterward, yay. . .
Anyway! Gotta get going on that, and answering my comment on DW. Saturday plans -- Sims 4 (gotta finish off the Brown-Kosperov portion of the Newcrest round robin. . .unless Emmett is alien pregnant, then I must curse the Sim heavens), catching up on that AT4W episode (maybe if I watch it right after lunch?), getting up Chapter 10 of "Secundus 2." Yay for non-cleaning Saturdays and having a bit more time for fun stuff! Though at least next week's cleaning Saturday is part of another long weekend and thus will sting less. . . But yeah, hopefully this weekend will continue to be pretty good. Night all!
